Complexity in Cellular Automata

In order to identify complex systems capable of modeling artificial life, we study the notion of complexity within a class of dynamical systems called cellu- lar automata. We present a novel classification of cellular automata dynamics, which helps us identify interesting behavior in large automaton spaces. We give a detailed comparison of our results to previous methods of dynamics classification. In the second part of the thesis, we study the backward dynamics of cellular au- tomata. We present a novel representation of one-dimensional cellular automata, which can be used to charcterize all their garden of eden configurations. We demonstrate the usefulness of this method on examples. 1Naším dlouhodobým cílem je identifikovat komplexní systémy vhodné k mod- elování umělého života. Tento problém je obtížný zčásti kvůli chybějící formální definici komplexního chování. V této práci proto zkoumáme pojem komplexity dynamických systémů známých jako celulární automaty. Představujeme novou klasifikaci jejich dynamiky, kterou využíváme k automatickému rozpoznávání zajímavého chování ve velkých prostorech celulárních automatů. Naše výsledky dále porovnáváme s dříve navrhnutými metodami klasifikace. Ve druhé části práce se zameřujeme na zkoumání dozadné dynamiky celulárních automatů, tedy studujeme vzory daných automatů. V tomto kontextu zavádíme novou metodu reprezentace jednodimenzionálních automatů, pomocí které lze charakterizovat všechny jejich garden of eden konfigurace. The leisure Centre in Prostějov

Adaptation of Selected Plant Species to the Conditions of a Slag-Ash Tailings Deposit and the Possibilities of Their Use for Phytoremediation

Diplomová práce se zabývá vyhodnocením adaptace vybraných rostlinných druhů na podmínky struskopopílkového odkaliště a možnostmi jejich využití pro fytoremediaci. Práce je rozdělena na dvě části. První část se týká představení odkaliště z hlediska historie a přírodních podmínek. Je zde také stručně představena problematika chemických vlastností substrátu, potenciálně rizikových kovů a jejich vlivu na rostlinné druhy. Dále jsou zde popsány rostlinné strategie a adaptace na přítomnost potenciálně rizikových kovů a rostlinné strategie ve vztahu k fytoremediaci. Druhá část se týká metod práce a je zaměřena na terénní výzkum a prezentování výsledků z hlediska provedení fytocenologické analýzy a vyhodnocení distribuce Cr v biomase zlatobýlu kanadského (Solidago canadensis) a třtiny křovištní (Calamagrostis epigejos). Taktéž se práce věnuje samotnému vyhodnocení adaptací vybraných rostlinných druhů a jejich využití pro fytoremediaci.The diploma´s thesis deals with the evaluation of the adaptation of selected plant species to the conditions of a slag-ash tailings deposit and the possibilities of their use for phytoremediation. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part concerns the introduction of the tailings deposit in Dolní Líštná in terms of history and natural conditions. It also briefly introduces the chemical properties of the substrate, potentially hazardous metals and their impact on plant species. Furthermore, plant strategies and adaptations to the presence of potentially hazardous metals and plant strategies in relation to phytoremediation are described. The second part relates to the methods of the work and focuses on the research and presentation of the results in terms of performing phytocenological analysis and evaluation of Cr distribution in the biomass of Canada goldenrod (Solidago canadensis) and wood small-reed (Calamagrostis epigejos). Dynamical Phase Transitions in Graph Cellular Automata

Discrete dynamical systems can exhibit complex behaviour from the iterative application of straightforward local rules. A famous example are cellular automata whose global dynamics are notoriously challenging to analyze. To address this, we relax the regular connectivity grid of cellular automata to a random graph, which gives the class of graph cellular automata. Using the dynamical cavity method (DCM) and its backtracking version (BDCM), we show that this relaxation allows us to derive asymptotically exact analytical results on the global dynamics of these systems on sparse random graphs. Concretely, we showcase the results on a specific subclass of graph cellular automata with ``conforming non-conformist'' update rules, which exhibit dynamics akin to opinion formation. Such rules update a node's state according to the majority within their own neighbourhood. In cases where the majority leads only by a small margin over the minority, nodes may exhibit non-conformist behaviour. Instead of following the majority, they either maintain their own state, switch it, or follow the minority. For configurations with different initial biases towards one state we identify sharp dynamical phase transitions in terms of the convergence speed and attractor types. From the perspective of opinion dynamics this answers when consensus will emerge and when two opinions coexist almost indefinitely.Comment: 15 page

Imaginary Landscapes

Obrazy vznikaly spojením atmosféry a vizuálních fragmentů mých snů a představ (imaginací), kdy jsem se zároveň snažila vyjádřit i pocit, který vizi provázel. Ne vždy však zdrojem inspirace byl vizuální zážitek. V několika případech jsem si byla schopna uchovat pouhý pocit atmosféry, se kterým jsem dále pracovala. Tvoření nových imaginárních světů, krajin, mě přirozeně dovedlo ke sci fi tématice. Kdy jsem se nechala inspirovat myšlenkou invazí a okupací, nebo zrodem nových civilizací. V obrazech se začaly objevovat vesmírné imaginární stroje nebo organismy okupující onu krajinu. Obrazy nejsou pouhým záznamem mé imaginace, pocitů nebo vizuálního zážitku snů. Pracovala jsem s reakcí diváka, s jeho vlastní představivostí. Tuto jeho imaginaci jsem podpořila imaginativní vizualitou pláten. Obrazy mají za úkol, ne přepsat a zprostředkovat pouhý můj zážitek, ale vyvolat vlastní imaginaci v divákovi. V průběhu práce jsem se začala cítit limitovaná tradičním pravoúhlým formátem obrazů. Převzala jsem tedy obrysové tvary skic oněch scifi stroječků, organismů, a formát jim přizpůsobila.In the paintings of my bachelor work I'm inspired by the visuality of my dreams and the atmosphere of them. I was painting my imaginations of the imaginary worlds and landscapes. That naturaly pushed me in the sci fi theme. I used some cosmic objects and machinery I created by myself just for this case. This machinery or organisms are occupy the landscapes. I was not painting just my ideas but I was trying my paintings to give rise to imagination of the viewer. I should refer to inspiration by surrealism, especialy by the work of Josef Šíma and Toyes. Some connection is also with the Miroslaf Štolfa´s work.

The Summer Olympics in Seoul with regard to Local Media Coverage

The topic of this thesis is the Summer Olympic Games 1988 which were held in South Korean capital city, Sŏul. The purpose of this study is to find out how the local media presented the Olympics, based on chosen newspapers articles. This bachelor's thesis is divided into three parts. The first part is set to introduce the political situation in the Republic of Korea. The second part is dedicated to the Olympic Games as I will describe the circumstances of South Korea being the host city and preparations. The main part belongs to the introduction of South Korean media and their coverage of the Summer Olympic Games in Seoul.Tématem této práce jsou Letní olympijské hry 1988, které se konaly v jihokorejském hlavním městě, Sŏulu. Hlavním cílem je na základě vybraných novinových článků zjistit, jak tamní média olympiádu prezentovala. Tato bakalářská práce je rozdělena na tři části. V úvodní části nastíním politické dění v Korejské republice. Druhá část je věnována samotným olympijským hrám, kde popíšu okolnosti zvolení Jižní Koreje coby organizátora a následné přípravy. Strategy of Family Winery Development

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá návrhem strategie rozvoje rodinného podniku Vinařství Hrozínek s.r.o. První část práce je věnována vymezení teoretických pojmů souvisejících s danou problematikou. Druhá část se zabývá analýzou současného stavu vybraného rodinného vinařství a v závěru této práce je na základě provedené analýzy zpracován návrh strategie rozvoje tohoto rodinného podniku.This diploma thesis deals with a proposed development strategy for the family business Vinařství Hrozínek s.r.o. The first part of the work is devoted to the definition of relevant theoretical concepts. The second part deals with an analysis of the current state of the family winery and finally, based on the analysis, a draft strategy for the business development is proposed.
