We study Spin(9)-structures on 16-dimensional Riemannian manifolds and characterize the geometric types admitting a connection with totally skew-symmetric torsion.Comment: Latex2e, 8 page

Radiation Shielding of the Stagnation Region by Transpiration of an Opaque Gas

    Get PDF
The laminar compressible boundary layer in the two-dimensional and axisymmetric stagnation regions has been analyzed to show the effects of the injection of a radiation absorbing foreign gas on an incident radiation field, and on the enthalpy profiles across the boundary layer. Total heat transfer to the stagnation region is evaluated for numerous cases and the results are compared with the no shielding case. Required absorption properties of the foreign gas are determined and compared with properties of known gases

Halton Region Youth In/At Risk Research Report

    Get PDF
The goal of the research was to conduct a Needs Assessment in relation to services for in/at-risk groups of youth between the ages of 16-24 years of age within the Halton region: 1. To identify the existing services available to meet the needs of the youth 2. To identify the gaps/duplication within services in order to suggest future fundable solutions. Launched May 2018: Halton Region Youth In/At Risk Research Report now has a companion website http://halton-youth-need.webflow.io/ The website was designed by students from the Interaction Design Program at Sheridan and profiles the Halton Region Youth In/At Risk research findings in an accessible way

Long-Run Risk of Dynamic Asset Allocation Strategies

    Get PDF
This study uses empirical resampling to examine the risk of three of Perold and Sharpe’s (1988) dynamic asset allocation strategies--Buy and hold, Constant mix, and Constant Proportion Portfolio Insurance (CPPI).  Generally we find greater risk from strategies with a greater proportion of common stock in the portfolio. The major exception is that for CPPI the shortfall probability relative to Treasury bills decreased as the proportion of common stock in the portfolio increased.  Finally, despite the positive floor buy and hold places on portfolio value, buy and hold is less risky than constant mix only in a few cases

Maximizing Resources to Make School Employee Wellness a Reality

    Get PDF
Because of the large number of Americans employed within school districts, they are a prime target population for the development and implementation of employee wellness programs. Even with grant support, funding for these programs can be limited. Forming partnerships with universities who have health- and wellness-focused areas of study can be mutually beneficial; school districts can stretch their dollars further, while college students gain hands-on experience for effective employee wellness program implementation. This articles addresses a successful partnership between a local school district and nearby university department to provide an employee wellness program. Specific tips and ideas for implementation of an employee wellness program are provided

Introducing the Living with Illness Group: A specialized treatment for patients with chronic schizophrenic conditions

    Get PDF
This paper introduces a specialized psychotherapy/psychoeducational group treatment for patients with chronic psychotic symptoms who receive only partial benefit from psychotropic medications, psychotherapy, and milieu/activities therapy. The goal of the group is to assist patients to accurately identify the feelings, thoughts, and behaviors that are dysfunctional symptoms of their disability and then use the functional aspects of their brain as well as learned coping strategies to compensate for their disability. The group format, philosophy, procedures, and typical topics of discussion are detailed
