Modulated curvaton decay

Get PDF
We study primordial density perturbations generated by the late decay of a curvaton field whose decay rate may be modulated by the local value of another isocurvature field, analogous to models of modulated reheating at the end of inflation. We calculate the primordial density perturbation and its local-type non-Gaussianity using the sudden-decay approximation for the curvaton field, recovering standard curvaton and modulated reheating results as limiting cases. We verify the Suyama-Yamaguchi inequality between bispectrum and trispectrum parameters for the primordial density field generated by multiple field fluctuations, and find conditions for the bound to be saturated.Comment: 16 pages, 8 figure

Chronic Constrictive Pericarditis

Constrictive pericarditis (CP) is a rare clinical entity that can pose diagnostic problems. The diagnosis of CP requires a high degree of clinical suspicion. The gold standard for diagnosis is cardiac catheterization with analysis of intracavitary pressure curves, which are high and, in end diastole, equal in all chambers. We present a patient with unexplained dyspnea, recurrent right-side pleural effusion, and ascites. Analysis of the ascitic fluid revealed a high protein content and an elevated serum-ascites gradient. Echocardiography, computed tomography, and cardiac catheterization revealed the diagnosis of CP. He underwent complete pericardiectomy and to date hasmade a good recovery. The diagnosis of CP is often neglected by admitting physicians, who usually attribute the symptoms to another disease process. This case exemplifies the difficulty in diagnosing this condition, as well as the investigation required, and provides a discussion of the benefit and outcomes of prompt treatment

Following the outage of a section of an ADN, the method identifies and forms an optimum cluster of microgrids within the section. The optimum cluster is determined from a set of candidate microgrid clusters by estimating the following metrics: total power loss, voltage deviations, and minimum load shedding. To compute these metrics, equivalent circuits of the clusters are estimated using measured data provided by phasor measurement units (PMUs). Hence, the proposed NC method determines the optimum microgrid cluster without requiring information about the network’s topology and its components. The proposed method is tested by simulating a study network in a real-time simulator coupled to physical PMUs and a prototype algorithm implementation, also executing in real time.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

Fundamentals of the Exclusionary Rule in the Iranian and American Law

Get PDF
Exclusionary rule has been accepted in different legal systems and has not been clearly accepted in Iranian legal system. this rule can be justified both on the basis of individualism thinking and in the idea of collectivism. In the first approach, the goal is to further protect the accused and guarantee his human and individual rights, in the second approach, the goal is to improve the quality of the trial and the performance of the judicial system. Studies show that the dominant approach in Iranian law, as well as in many other individualistic legal systems, has been the reason for the exclusionary rule. the changes that have taken place in the legal system have caused the ideological foundations of this rule to change and society to thinking be in the center of attention rather than the individual, which in turn raises the status of the judiciary and, in other words, increases legitimacy. This study was conducted with a comparative study in the USA and Iranian legal system and the result is the confirmation of the rise of both legal systems to collectivist thinking as the basis for identifying exclusionary rule and attention to social feedback on the performance of the judiciary

This paper presents the construction of a Hardware-in-the-loop laboratory test set-up designed to assess the time synchronization requirements of Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs). The test set-up also allows to investigate the effects of signal phase shifts caused by current and voltage transformers, errors in timing source and the impact of these errors when determining time synchronization compliance of PMUs. The paper also describes the structure of an IRIG-B time-sync real-time implementation, which allowed real-time hardware-in-the-loop simulation by providing a PMU with a high-accuracy timing source.QC 20151002</p

ABSTRACTObjectiveTo determine the prevalence and economic losses of Fasciola spp. isolates and costs incurred due to liver condemnation from ruminants in Kashan region, center of Iran from 2012 to 2013.MethodsIn this cross-sectional study, a total number of 251 325 slaughtered sheep, goats and cattle (88 939 sheep, 151 924 goats and 10 462 cattle) were examined via necropsy for fasciolasis in industrial Kashan abattoirs located in center of Iran. The average weight was calculated as 1 000 g for sheep, 900 g for goat and 5 000 g for cattle in this study region. Based on market value, the average price of a kilo gram of normal liver at Kashan city during the study period was 8 USD. The amount of main nutrients and vitamins elimination in liver contaminated to fascioliasis was determined.ResultsOverall 3.28% of the livers were found to be infected. For total number of sheep, goats and cattle slaughtered annually in region study, it was estimated that 7 505  livers were infected and total annual economic losses of fascioliasis of studied animals was 41 784 USD (based on market prices in study period). Of this, 23 360 USD, 30 240 USD and 15 400 USD were associated with the fascioliasis of sheep, goats and cattle, respectively.ConclusionsThis study indicated that the Fasciola sp. clearly remains prevalent and causes considerable economic losses in study region in sheep, goats and cattle and presumably, other areas and hosts of Iran, providing baseline data for the future monitoring of this potentially important parasitic infection in the country

A Centralized Voltage Controller for Offshore Wind Plants: NY State Grid Case Study

This paper proposes a centralized multi-plant reactive power and voltage controller to support voltage control in the interconnected onshore power system. This controller utilizes a hierarchical control structure consisting of a master controller and multiple slave controllers. To validate the proposed method, a realistic planning case of the New York State grid is created for the year 2035, in which nearly 9,500 MW AC or DC connected offshore wind resources are modeled. The performance of the proposed controller is analyzed in the large-scale model under three realistic disturbance scenarios: generator loss, load ramps, and load steps. Results demonstrate how the controller can adequately perform under disturbances to share reactive support proportionally among plants based on their ratings and improve grid voltage stability margins.Comment: 5 pages, 13 figures, conference paper, IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies - Latin America, San Juan, Puerto Rico, Nov. 6-9, 202

Curvaton and the inhomogeneous end of inflation

Get PDF
We study the primordial density perturbations and non-Gaussianities generated from the combined effects of an inhomogeneous end of inflation and curvaton decay in hybrid inflation. This dual role is played by a single isocurvature field which is massless during inflation but acquire a mass at the end of inflation via the waterfall phase transition. We calculate the resulting primordial non-Gaussianity characterized by the non-linearity parameter, fNLf_{NL}, recovering the usual end-of-inflation result when the field decays promptly and the usual curvaton result if the field decays sufficiently late.Comment: 13 pages, 5 figure

Power flow solution for multiphase unbalanced distribution networks with high penetration of photovoltaics

No full text
Power flow analysis on a Photovoltaic System (PV)dominated distribution network is rather different than a conventional distribution system. This paper proposes a new three-phase power flow solution for such networks that considers the multiphase unbalanced nature of distribution systems together with different system topologies. Power flow contributions of PVs and different types of loads are also considered. The performance of the proposed method has been assessed by simulations on a sample distribution network.QC 20131217</p

A SGAM-based architecture for synchrophasor applications facilitating TSO/DSO interactions

No full text
Distribution grid dynamics are becoming increasingly complex due to the transition of these networks from passive to active networks. This transition requires increasing the observability and awareness of the interactions between Transmission and Distribution (T&D) grids, particularly to guarantee adequate operational security. As part of the work carried out in the EU-funded IDE4L project, a specific use case, containing PMU-based monitoring functions, has been defined to support the architecture design of a distribution grid automation system. As a result, the architecture can accommodate for synchrophasor applications that provide key dynamic information extraction and exchange between DSO and TSO. This paper presents the use case and the portion of the IDE4L architecture that accommodates for scenarios that exploit synchrophasors for monitoring applications.QC 20170628</p
