    IMPACT OF CAPITAL STRUCTURE POLICY ON VALUE OF THE FIRM – A STUDY ON SOME SELECTED CORPORATE MANUFACTURING FIRMS UNDER DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE

    The study is about capital structure policy and its impacts on value of the firm. The outcome of this study was both the primary and secondary data. The study was based on opinions survey of 80 respondents of the 20 manufacturing corporate firms, enlisted under Dhaka Stock Exchange. The empirical analysis of the study was limited to a period of five years ranging 2008-2012. The major findings of the study are: (i) the most important determinant of capital structure policy as rated by the respondents have been financial risk , profitability, availability of fund, productivity, liquidity, operating risk, growth rate, proper timing, corporate tax, stability of sales/ investment etc, (ii) the study reveals that in terms of the average positions of capital structure and financial structure during 2008-2012, Beximco pharma has ranked first followed by Square pharma, Apex Adelchi, DESCO, ACI ltd, Titas gas, Bata shoe,Aftab automobile, Reneata pharma, Square textile ltd etc,(iii) as regards the value of the firm during the study period, Titas gas has obtained first rank followed by Square pharma, DESCO, Beximco pharma, BATBC, ACI, Reneta pharma, Apex Tennary, Apex Adelchi, Bata shoe and so on.(iv) this study has portrayed that the independent variables namely capital structure (CS), debt to equity (DER) & debt to asset (DR), fixed assets to total assets(Tangibility), earnings before interest and taxes to interest charges(ICR), financial leverage multiplier(FLM) have influenced value of the firm(VF) to the extent of 79.1 percent significantly. Therefore, it is recommended that the relevant firm’s authority should take proper measures in order to improve the independent variables having positive influence on value of the firms

    A Survey on Antimicrobial Sensitivity Pattern of Different Antibiotics on Clinical Isolates of Escherichia coli Collected from Dhaka City, Bangladesh

    A study of antimicrobial sensitivity of Escherichia coli isolated from clinical sources of Medinova Diagnostic Center and Popular Diagnostic Center, Dhaka, Bangladesh was carried out to facilitate the preference of drug in the management of Escherichia coli induced symptoms. Very low sensitivity of E. coli towards ampicillin (4%), aztreonam (4%), cloxacillin (5%), nalidixic acid (5%), ciprofloxacin (7.5%), ceftriaxone (12.5%), doxycycline (12.5%), ceftazidime (16.25%), co-trimoxazole (20%), chloramphenicol (22.51%), tetracycline (25%), and netilmicin (35%) was observed. Higher sensitivity pattern was observed for gentamicin (56%) and only imipenem (95%) has shown sensitivity pattern possibly susceptible enough to consider for the management of E. coli induced cases in the area under study. The low sensitivity to different antimicrobial could be attributed to their prevailing usage and abuse in the area under study

    ABSTRACT Toxic normal hydrocarbon (NH), nonadecane in the methanolic extract of the whole of cabbage samples collected from different districts of Bangladeshwas analyzed by GC-MS. It was observed that NH deposition on the samples takes place in different morphological parts of the biological materials. The NH, nonadecane, was found in the cabbage samples collected from the highway road side by the extraction of methanol. The identification and quantification of the title compounds have not been reported previously in the cabbage sample.     Influence of Word of Mouth on Consumer Buying Decision: Evidence from Bangladesh Market.

    The purpose of this study is to define how word of mouth influence consumer’s buying behavior.  Word of mouth is becoming a strong tool for building brand in present time. The research used primary and secondary data for analysis. In primary data, 500 respondents’ data were collected and Microsoft excel used for analysis. The findings recommend that word of mouth has impact on consumer buying behavior. The results suggest that word of mouth built by trust and loyalty. The findings are based on small sample size however; the framework may be used for future research. The significance of word of mouth, particularly consumer buying behavior, is increased rapidly. The paper will give marketers a better understanding of word of mouth as well as consumer perceptions.     Comparative study of physical and elastic properties of jute and glass fiber reinforced LDPE composites

    Jute fiber reinforced low density polyethylene (LDPE) composites and glass fiber reinforced LDPE composites were prepared at variable proportions using compression molding technique at 120 °C. Few physical and mechanical properties such as bulk density, water absorption%, tensile strength, elongation at break (Eb%), Young’s modulus, flexural stress and strain and tangent modulus of both composites were studied and compared. Throughout the study, it was revealed that glass composites had better mechanical stability as compared to LDPE jute composites

    Elastic and electrical properties of graphite and talc filler reinforced polypropylene (PP) composites

    Graphite filler reinforced polypropylene (PP) composites and talc filler reinforced (PP) composites were prepared by compression molding at 160 ÂşC. Mechanical and electrical properties were studied. The tensile strength of the composites decreases with the increase of filler addition and also with the increase of wt.% of filler. But, a slight improvement of the Young's modulus of the filaments reinforced with different wt.% of filler is observed. It was found that the Bulk density of test materials increased with the fillers content. Capacitance decreases with the increase of both frequency and voltage which suggest good electrical properties of PP-graphite composites and PP-talc composites. All of these results indicated that PP-graphite composites are better than the PP-talc composites

    Analysis of overdispersed antenatal health care count data

    Overdispersion (or greater variability) in count data analysis is very common in many practical fields of health sciences. Ignorance of the presence of overdispersion by the researchers in such data analysis may cause misleading inferences and thus lead to incorrect interpretations of the results. Researchers should account for the consequences of overdispersion and need to select the correct choice of models for the analysis of such data. In this paper, Generalized Linear Models (GLMs) are applied in modelling and analysis of antenatal care (ANC) count data extracted from the Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey (BDHS) 2014. Pearson chi-square and different score tests are used to investigate the effect of overdispersion in the analysis. Overdispersion is found to be significant in the antenatal health care count data and so appropriate modelling is used to produce valid inferences for the regression parameters. The zero-truncated negative binomial regression (0-NBR) is found to be the best choice for analysing such data while excluding zero counts. Study findings reveal that place of residence, order of birth, exposure to mass media, wealth index and education of mother have significant impacts on the ANC status of women during pregnancy in Bangladesh

    Design and Implementation of Automated Ankle Foot Orthosis for Foot Drop Patients Using Gait Cycle EMG Analysis

    Foot drop is known as gait abnormality in which the dropping of the forefoot happens due to the weakness of Tibialis Anterior Muscle for the damage of the common fibular nerve in the anterior portion of the lower leg. In this research, those patients are considered who have foot drop for Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS). GBS is a peripheral nerve disorder for which bilateral foot drop happens to the patients. So, the aim of this research is to develop an automated Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO) which will aid the GBS patients in their gait cycle while walking. For the development of this AFO, an EMG analysis has been conducted on both normal people (20 persons, Male 20-45 years) and GBS patients (10 patients, Male 20-45 years) and compared to find out the deviation of the patient’s one from the normal people. The findings of the EMG study show that the stance phase of the gait cycle is not affected by the GBS as correlation coefficient values are in between 0.95 to 1 where the swing phase very much deviates from the normal pattern as the coefficient values are in between 0.6 to 0.7 as well as short swing phase and no heel strike during walking. Considering these, automated AFO has been developed and implemented to test the feasibility and effectiveness on patients. The experimental results show that the effect of GBS on swing phase can be lessened as the value of correlation coefficient increases to 0.85 to 0.9 with long swing phase and proper heel strike on terminal swing phase
