Coping During Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy: Predictors and Intervention

    Get PDF
The present research sought to understand patient experiences during Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) by using 24 HBOT patients (17 men, 7 women) to examine the relationship between individual variables and anxiety, and providing One Session Exposure Therapy (OSET; Öst, 1989) if necessary. Pre-HBOT participants completed the following measures: State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI; Spielberger, 1983), Claustrophobia Questionnaire (CLQ; Radomsky, Rachman, Thordarson, McIsaac, & Teachman, 2001), Anxiety Sensitivity Index (ASI; Reiss, Peterson, Gursky, & McNally, 1986), and Treatment Credibility/Expectancy Questionnaire (CEQ; Devilly & Borkovec, 2000). State Anxiety was assessed pre-HBOT and at the tenth and last sessions. Findings suggest Dispositional Anxiety (STAI-Trait + ASI), Expectancy of symptom improvement (CEQ), and gender were significantly predictive of State Anxiety before and during HBOT. Limitations and directions for future research are discussed

The Effect of School Funding on Standardized Test Scores

    Get PDF
Most schools in America use standardized tests to determine how students do on average based on their peers and what they have been studying on school. These scores can also reflect a students comprehension on the material taught in class. The quality of the education provided can also be a factor that greatly influences a students’ performance on these standardized tests. The funding of a school is a major factor that influences the quality of education a school is able to provide. As a group, we analyzed data sets that analyzed the funding and standardized test scores of different schools in Illinois. In doing so, a better understanding between a school’s financial status and their standardized test scores was found, and this knowledge can be applied in future considerations about funding to improve the overall quality of education in schools in America

Many-body Majorana braiding without an exponential Hilbert space

Qubits built out of Majorana zero modes (MZMs) constitute the primary path towards topologically protected quantum computing. Simulating the braiding process of multiple MZMs corresponds to the quantum dynamics of a superconducting many-body system. It is crucial to study the Majorana dynamics both in the presence of all other quasiparticles and for reasonably large system sizes. We present a method to calculate arbitrary many-body wavefunctions as well as their expectation values, correlators and overlaps from time evolved single-particle states of a superconductor, allowing for significantly larger system sizes. We calculate the fidelity, transition probabilities, and joint parities of Majorana pairs to track the quality of the braiding process. We show how the braiding success depends on the speed of the braid. Moreover, we demonstrate the topological CNOT two-qubit gate as an example of two-qubit entanglement. Our work opens the path to test and analyze the many theoretical implementations of Majorana qubits. Moreover, this method can be used to study the dynamics of any non-interacting superconductor.Comment: v2: revised version, including the demonstration of CNOT gate via braidin
