The production of the 180mHf^{180\rm{m}}\rm{Hf} nuclei in the photoproton reaction 181Ta(γ,p){^{181}\rm{Ta}}(\gamma,p) was studied at end-point bremsstrahlung energies EγmaxE_{\rm{\gamma max}} = 35-95 MeV. The experiment was performed at the electron linear accelerator LUE-40 NSC KIPT with the use of the γ\gamma activation and off-line γ\gamma-ray spectroscopy. The experimental values of the bremsstrahlung flux-averaged cross-sections σ(Eγmax)m\langle{\sigma(E_{\rm{\gamma max}})}\rangle_{\rm{m}} for the 181Ta(γ,p)180mHf{^{181}\rm{Ta}}(\gamma,p)^{180\rm{m}}\rm{Hf} reaction were determined, and at Eγmax>55E_{\rm{\gamma max}} > 55 MeV obtained for the first time. The measured values, also as the literature data, are significantly exceed the theoretical flux-averaged cross-sections σ(Eγmax)th\langle{\sigma(E_{\rm{\gamma max}})}\rangle_{\rm{th}}. The σ(Eγmax)th\langle{\sigma(E_{\rm{\gamma max}})}\rangle_{\rm{th}} values were calculated using the cross-section σ(E)\sigma(E) computed with the TALYS1.95 code for six different level density models. A comparative analysis of the calculated total cross-sections for the reactions 181Ta(γ,p)180Hf{^{181}\rm{Ta}}(\gamma,p)^{180}\rm{Hf} and 181Ta(γ,n)180Ta{^{181}\rm{Ta}}(\gamma,n)^{180}\rm{Ta} was performed. It was shown that the photoproton (γ,p)(\gamma,p) to photoneutron (γ,n)(\gamma,n) strength ratio is consistent with the estimates based on the isospin selection rules and the value from the (e,ep)(e,e'p) experiment.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures, 2 table

    Population of a low-spin positive-parity band from high-spin intruder states in 177Au : The two-state mixing effect

The extremely neutron-deficient isotopes 177,179Au were studied by means of in-beam γ-ray spectroscopy. Specific tagging techniques, α-decay tagging in 177Au and isomer tagging in 179Au, were used for these studies. Feeding of positive-parity, nearly spherical states, which are associated with 2d3/2 and 3s1/2 proton-hole configurations, from the 1i13/2 proton-intruder configuration was observed in 177Au. Such a decay path has no precedent in odd-Au isotopes and it is explained by the effect of mixing of wave functions of the initial state

Collectivity in ¹⁹⁶,¹⁹⁸Pb isotopes probed in Coulomb-excitation experiments at REX-ISOLDE

The neutron-deficient ¹⁹⁶,¹⁹⁸Pb isotopes have been studied in Coulomb-excitation experiments employing the Miniball γ-ray spectrometer and radioactive ion beams from the REX-ISOLDE post-accelerator at CERN. The reduced transition probabilities of the first excited 2⁺ states in ¹⁹⁶Pb and ¹⁹⁸Pb nuclei have been measured for the first time. Values of B (E2) = 18.2₋₄,₁⁺⁴,⁸ W.u. and B (E2) = 13.1₋₃,₅⁺⁴,⁹ W.u., were obtained, respectively. The experiment sheds light on the development of collectivity when moving from the regime governed by the generalised seniority scheme to a region, where intruding structures, associated with different deformed shapes, start to come down in energy and approach the spherical ground state

Lifetime measurements of excited states in ¹⁶³W and the implications for the anomalous B(E2) ratios in transitional nuclei

    Get PDF
This letter reports lifetime measurements of excited states in the odd-N nucleus 163W using the recoil-distance Doppler shift method to probe the core polarising effect of the i13/2 neutron orbital on the underlying soft triaxial even-even core. The ratio B(E2:21/2⁺ → 17/2⁺)/B(E2:17/2⁺ → 13/2⁺) is consistent with the predictions of the collective rotational model. The deduced B(E2) values provide insights into the validity of collective model predictions for heavy transitional nuclei and a geometric origin for the anomalous B(E2) ratios observed in nearby even-even nuclei is proposed
