Leptogenesis from oscillations and dark matter
An extension of the Standard Model with Majorana singlet fermions in the
1-100 GeV range can give rise to a baryon asymmetry at freeze-in via the
CP-violating oscillations of these neutrinos: this is the well known ARS
mechanism. In this paper we consider possible extensions of the minimal ARS
scenario that can account not only for successful leptogenesis but also explain
other open problems such as dark matter. We find that an extension in the form
of a weakly coupled B-L gauge boson, an invisible QCD axion model, and the
singlet majoron model can simultaneously account for dark matter and the baryon
asymmetry.Comment: A relevant previously neglected process has been included,
conclusions mostly unchanged. Matches published versio
The Jewish impact on the social and economic manifestation of the Gibraltarian identity
The diverse fabric of life which comprises Gibraltar encompasses various ethnic backgrounds including but not limited to; Maltese, East Indian, Moroccan, Italian, Spaniard, and Sephardic Jews. The aim of this thesis is to examine the contribution of the Sephardic Jew in respect to the cultural and economic development of the Gibraltarian. This is accomplished by highlighting the historical relationships between the countries of Spain, England, and Morocco with their Jewish population, and secondly by using both primary and secondary research materials to delve into the daily life of a Sephardic Jew during the early colonial development of Gibraltar between 1704 to the mid nineteenth century when the social identity of the Gibraltarian manifested. Gibraltar\u27s unique cultural identity is further examined by applying various components of cultural theorist\u27s philosophies creating a distinct cultural ideology exclusive to Gibraltar. It is precisely the uniqueness of Gibraltar which makes it such a difficult area to categorize and yet such an intriguing region to study
Effective Networked Nonprofit Organizations: Defining the Behavior and Creating an Instrument for Measurement
This correlational research design, which included a convenience sample of 157 nonprofit staff and board member responses to a Likert-type survey, was used to conduct a principle components analysis (PCA) to develop subscales related to networked nonprofits. As defined in the study, a networked nonprofit has a set of intentionally built trusting relationships and has systems and strategies that engage various stakeholders in meaningful conversations. They achieve their missions by developing strong partnerships where they invest in the goals of other organizations to mobilize resources for a common shared mission and values. While there were correlations between the level respondents rated their organization as a networked nonprofit, or networkedness, and effectiveness reported by respondents, the two networked nonprofit subscales revealed as a result of PCA (Stakeholder/External and Systems Vision/Internal) included elements found in effective as well as networked nonprofits. Also, the Maturity of Practice items were narrowed and reviewed through bivariate correlation. While they correlate to one another, they did not correlate to the networkedness or effectiveness measures. This seems to indicate a disconnect between the actual practice of networkedness as evidenced through social media and evaluation measures and the networked mindset or organizational culture. In other words, the way respondents perceive their levels of effectiveness and networkedness may indeed not align with actual behaviors. DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN A CHILD WELFARE CONTEXT: INTERPERSONAL VIOLENCE, POVERTY, AND THEIR LINK TO PARENTING ABILITIES
The current study examined the prevalence of co-occurring woman abuse and
poverty in a sample of mothers from the Children’s Aid Society of London/Middlesex. This study sought to determine the extent to which domestic violence and poverty influence the parenting abilities of single mothers by examining parenting capacity scores on the Ontario Risk Assessment Model (ORAM). The findings indicated that poverty compromised the parenting abilities of mothers in this sample. This study challenged current literature on domestic violence and parenting, which emphasizes deficiencies in the parenting of women who are experiencing abuse, by indicating that survivors of domestic violence may be compensating for the abuse they are experiencing. Furthermore, co-occurring poverty and violence was not subject to a cumulative negative effect on parenting. Implications of the findings for both practitioners and policy makers in the fields of domestic violence, child welfare, and social assistance are discussed
An Experience in Mentoring: Shaping Young Mathematical Minds
The Math PLUS program is a partnership between Linfield College and a local middle school which seeks to encourage more mathematics in local and regional science fairs. Linfield students are paired with middle school students to mentor science fair projects that are required to have a mathematical focus. We briefly discuss an overview of the program—its goals, structure and execution—before touching on our personal experiences as mentors for Yamhill-Carlton Intermediate School students. We also provide suggestions for improvements for those looking to implement similar programs at their own institution. The program is funded by a Dolciani Mathematics Enrichment Grant
Through the years, the development of enterprise spirit has had a positive effect on organizational climate, organizational culture, quality of life, welfare and globalization. In this important factor of business development, we have considered issues such as organizational climate and business leadership. Thus, this paper has developed a definition of each of these concepts and it is shown that the effective implementation of an appropriate organizational climate and leadership in an organization reflects the company's success and future sustainability.
