    Evolución trófica del Lago Cocibolca

    Get PDF

Conditional IMS learning design generation using User modeling and planning techniques

    Get PDF
Active modeling is required in learning settings to cope with the dynamic evolution of the knowledge, since learners competences evolves over time as they participate in the course activities. Moreover, one of the main issues in a competence based eLearning process is to deliver personalized instructional designs adjusted to both 1) intrinsic characteristics of users (i.e. learning styles) and 2) the desired and achieved competences in the learning process (i.e. specific and generic competences). This delivery includes the adaptation of the content and the activities in a learning scenario based on a dynamic user model that evolves according to user interactions. In this paper, an approach to support Conditional Plans Generation (IMS Learning Designs) in the context of a virtual learning environment is presented. The process is supported by a pervasive usage of standards and specifications (IMS family of specifications) in conjunction with an integral user modeling

Comunicación presentada en: V Reunión Española de Ciencia y Tecnología de Aerosoles – RECTA 2011 celebrada del 27 al 29 de junio de 2011 en CIEMAT, Madrid. This study presents an inter-comparison between a Vaisala CL51 ceilometer and a Micro Pulse Lidar (MPL) of both the Boundary Layer (BL) and the Saharan Air Layer (SAL) top heights during Saharan dust events from January to April 2011. This inter-comparison was performed at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Observatory in Tenerife, Canary Islands, within the Marine Boundary Layer. From January to April the Saharan dust intrusions usually occur at lower altitudes within the BL. One of the main goals of this study is to determine whether the CL51 ceilometer is capable to detect mineral dust within the SAL. To our knowledge, this is the first time this kind of study is attempted on a site close to Saharan dust sources

A Clinical-Genetic Score for Predicting Weight Loss after Bariatric Surgery: The OBEGEN Study

Genética; Obesidad; Pérdida de pesoGenetics; Obesity; Weight lossGenètica; Obesitat; Pèrdua de pesAround 30% of the patients that undergo bariatric surgery (BS) do not reach an appropriate weight loss. The OBEGEN study aimed to assess the added value of genetic testing to clinical variables in predicting weight loss after BS. A multicenter, retrospective, longitudinal, and observational study including 416 patients who underwent BS was conducted (Clinical.Trials.gov- NCT02405949). 50 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) from 39 genes were examined. Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve analysis were used to calculate sensitivity and specificity. Satisfactory response to BS was defined as at nadir excess weight loss >50%. A good predictive model of response [area under ROC of 0.845 (95% CI 0.805–0.880), p < 0.001; sensitivity 90.1%, specificity 65.5%] was obtained by combining three clinical variables (age, type of surgery, presence diabetes) and nine SNPs located in ADIPOQ, MC4R, IL6, PPARG, INSIG2, CNR1, ELOVL6, PLIN1 and BDNF genes. This predictive model showed a significant higher area under ROC than the clinical score (p = 0.0186). The OBEGEN study shows the key role of combining clinical variables with genetic testing to increase the predictability of the weight loss response after BS. This finding will permit us to implement a personalized medicine which will be associated with a more cost-effective clinical practice. This research was supported by grants from the “Pla Estratègic de Recerca i Innovació en Salut” (PERIS) 2016–2020 (SLT002/16/00497), the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (PI PI18/00964), Fondos FEDER “Una manera de hacer Europa”), and Menarini España. Analysis of gene network bifurcation during optic cup morphogenesis in zebrafish

    Get PDF
Sight depends on the tight cooperation between photoreceptors and pigmented cells, which derive from common progenitors through the bifurcation of a single gene regulatory network into the neural retina (NR) and retinal-pigmented epithelium (RPE) programs. Although genetic studies have identified upstream nodes controlling these networks, their regulatory logic remains poorly investigated. Here, we characterize transcriptome dynamics and chromatin accessibility in segregating NR/RPE populations in zebrafish. We analyze cis-regulatory modules and enriched transcription factor motives to show extensive network redundancy and context-dependent activity. We identify downstream targets, highlighting an early recruitment of desmosomal genes in the flattening RPE and revealing Tead factors as upstream regulators. We investigate the RPE specification network dynamics to uncover an unexpected sequence of transcription factors recruitment, which is conserved in humans. This systematic interrogation of the NR/RPE bifurcation should improve both genetic counseling for eye disorders and hiPSCs-to-RPE differentiation protocols for cell-replacement therapies in degenerative diseases. This work is supported by the following grants: (I) To J.-R.M.-M.: From the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities (MICINN): BFU2017-86339P with FEDER funds, MDM-2016-0687 and PY20_00006/Junta de Andalucía. Cysteine and Folate metabolism are targetable vulnerabilities of metastatic colorectal cancer

    Get PDF
With most cancer-related deaths resulting from metastasis, the development of new therapeutic approaches against metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) is essential to increasing patient survival. The metabolic adaptations that support mCRC remain undefined and their elucidation is crucial to identify potential therapeutic targets. Here, we employed a strategy for the rational identification of targetable metabolic vulnerabilities. This strategy involved first a thorough metabolic characterisation of same-patient-derived cell lines from primary colon adenocarcinoma (SW480), its lymph node metastasis (SW620) and a liver metastatic derivative (SW620-LiM2), and second, using a novel multi-omics integration workflow, identification of metabolic vulnerabilities specific to the metastatic cell lines. We discovered that the metastatic cell lines are selectively vulnerable to the inhibition of cystine import and folate metabolism, two key pathways in redox homeostasis. Specifically, we identified the system xCT and MTHFD1 genes as potential therapeutic targets, both individually and combined, for combating mCRC
