Las primeras reacciones de las compañías ferroviarias españolas al inicio de la competencia automovilística antes de la Guerra Civil

Editada en la Fundación Empresa PúblicaEl trabajo introduce un nuevo elemento explicativo del «problema ferroviario» distinto a la crisis económica o a la acción del Estado y surgido desde finales de la década de los veinte: la competencia del automóvil. Así, se analiza cómo antes de la Guerra Civil el transporte motorizado por carretera había comenzado a competir con el ferroviario, al menos en los tráficos más rentables. Posteriormente se analizan las diversas medidas propuestas por las compañías para intentar contrarrestar esta creciente competencia y los escasos logros prácticos conseguidos.This paper explains the so-called «Spanish railways problem» as a consequence of the new competition that this traditional mean of transport suffered from the rapid development of the automobile industry. Road transportation more than any other factor was the cause of the financial difficulties of the railways companies before the Civil War. We also study the reaction of these firms and the failures of all measures that were taken.Publicad

Los precios de los automóviles importados en la España de los años veinte

This note presents the series of average prices in origin of the private motorcars imported in Spain from the United States, France and Great Britain between 1918 and 1930 and to the specifications tables of the yearly motor shows in New York, London and Paris. These prices (at origin and in Spain) are changed to prices in pesetas by applying the official exchange rates and the real tariff effect with the procedure annually reported by the Royal Auomobile Club of Spain to its members.La nota presenta las series de precios medios en origen de vehículos de turismo importados en España, entre 1918 y 1930, desde USA, Francia y Gran Bretaña según las marcas presentes en el mercado español en 1930, utilizando para ello las tablas de especificaciones de las exposiciones automovilísticas de Nueva York, París y Londres. Esos precios medios son transformados en precios en España y en pesetas según las reglas de aplicación de los respectivos aranceles incluidas en los Anuarios del Real Automóvil Club de España

Using the Social-Local-Mobile App for Smoking Cessation in the SmokeFreeBrain Project: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial

Background: Smoking is considered the main cause of preventable illness and early deaths worldwide. The treatment usually prescribed to people who wish to quit smoking is a multidisciplinary intervention, combining both psychological advice and pharmacological therapy, since the application of both strategies significantly increases the chance of success in a quit attempt. Objective: We present a study protocol of a 12-month randomized open-label parallel-group trial whose primary objective is to analyze the efficacy and efficiency of usual psychopharmacological therapy plus the Social-Local-Mobile app (intervention group) applied to the smoking cessation process compared with usual psychopharmacological therapy alone (control group). Methods: The target population consists of adult smokers (both male and female) attending the Smoking Cessation Unit at Virgen del Rocío University Hospital, Seville, Spain. Social-Local-Mobile is an innovative intervention based on mobile technologies and their capacity to trigger behavioral changes. The app is a complement to pharmacological therapies to quit smoking by providing personalized motivational messages, physical activity monitoring, lifestyle advice, and distractions (minigames) to help overcome cravings. Usual pharmacological therapy consists of bupropion (Zyntabac 150 mg) or varenicline (Champix 0.5 mg or 1 mg). The main outcomes will be (1) the smoking abstinence rate at 1 year measured by means of exhaled carbon monoxide and urinary cotinine tests, and (2) the result of the cost-effectiveness analysis, which will be expressed in terms of an incremental cost-effectiveness ratio. Secondary outcome measures will be (1) analysis of the safety of pharmacological therapy, (2) analysis of the health-related quality of life of patients, and (3) monitoring of healthy lifestyle and physical exercise habits. Results: Of 548 patients identified using the hospital’s electronic records system, we excluded 308 patients: 188 declined to participate and 120 did not meet the inclusion criteria. A total of 240 patients were enrolled: the control group (n=120) will receive usual psychopharmacological therapy, while the intervention group (n=120) will receive usual psychopharmacological therapy plus the So-Lo-Mo app. The project was approved for funding in June 2015. Enrollment started in October 2016 and was completed in October 2017. Data gathering was completed in November 2018, and data analysis is under way. The first results are expected to be submitted for publication in early 2019. Conclusions: Social networks and mobile technologies influence our daily lives and, therefore, may influence our smoking habits as well. As part of the SmokeFreeBrain H2020 European Commission project, this study aims at elucidating the potential role of these technologies when used as an extra aid to quit smoking

Bariatric surgery, weight loss and the role of physical activity: a systematic review

P. 145-160La obesidad se ha convertido en uno de los mayores problemas de salud en la sociedad actual, hasta tal punto de ser considerada como una epidemia. Para personas con obesidad mórbida (Índice de Masa Corporal (IMC) ≥ 40 kg·m-2) que no consiguen reducción de peso por métodos convencionales se recurre a cirugía bariátrica. Existe cierta controversia entre la relación de la actividad física y la pérdida de peso posterior a la intervención bariátrica, por lo que, el objetivo de este trabajo es el de revisar y describir los distintos trabajos que existen al respecto. Se realizó una búsqueda bibliográfica en las bases de datos Medline y Scopus. De un total de 128 trabajos y tras los criterios de exclusión se procedió a la lectura exhaustiva de 24 artículos completos, 21 de ellos observacionales y 3 experimentales. Encontramos que la práctica actividad física se correlaciona de manera positiva con la pérdida de peso, no obstante, aunque no existen diferencias significativas entre realizar ejercicio o no realizarlo a corto plazo (primeros seis meses), sí que se empiezan a hacer palpables a medio o largo plazo (+ 9 meses)S

CONSTRUCCIÓN DE UN SISTEMA DE ADQUISICIÓN DE TEMPERATURA DE SUELO Y NIVEL DE MANTO FREÁTICO PARA APLICACIONES EN BOMBAS DE CALOR DE FUENTES TERRESTRES (CONSTRUCTION OF A SYSTEM FOR THE ACQUISITION OF SOIL TEMPERATURE AND GROUND FLOOR LEVEL FOR APPLICATIONS IN HEAT PUMPS FROM GROUND SOURCES)

Resumen Las bombas de calor de fuente terrestre son sistemas renovables y amigables con el medio ambiente que utilizan la energía subterránea superficial para lograr la calefacción y refrigeración de espacios con el fin de brindar comodidad térmica. En el presente trabajo se presenta la implementación de un sistema de adquisición de datos de nivel freático y temperatura del subsuelo para aplicaciones en bombas de calor de fuentes terrestres. Se han hecho investigaciones sobre el suelo para conocer sus características térmicas en diferentes ciudades de México, sin embargo, no se han hecho estas investigaciones en la zona de Ciudad del Carmen Campeche. Se utilizaron sondas de temperatura Dallas ds18b20 y un sensor de distancia ultrasónico HC-SR04. Para la transmisión y recepción inalámbrica se utilizó el transceptor NRF24L01. El sistema de lectura de sensores-transmisión y el sistema de recepción-adquisición de datos fue implementado con el microcontrolador Atmega328p en una tarjeta de desarrollo de prototipos Arduino uno. El sistema de lectura y transmisión de datos fue del tipo autónomo alimentado por un panel solar de 12 voltios y 450 mah de tipo mono cristalino. Se utilizó una batería de plomo-ácido de 12 voltios. La adquisición de datos del receptor a una computadora personal fue a través del puerto USB, utilizando el software Processing, el cual almacena los datos cada hora en una hoja de cálculo. Los datos fueron recibidos y almacenados adecuadamente, de igual forma el sistema de energía fotovoltaica funcionó ininterrumpidamente. Abstract Ground Source Heat Pumps are environmentally friendly, renewable systems that use surface underground energy to achieve space heating and cooling for thermal comfort. In this work, the implementation of a temperature and water table data acquisition system for applications in Ground Source Heat Pump is presented. Investigations have been made on the soil to know its thermal characteristics in different cities of Mexico; however these investigations have not been done in the Ciudad del Carmen Campeche area. Dallas ds18b20 temperature probes and an HC-SR04 ultrasonic distance sensor were used. For wireless transmission and reception, the NRF24L01 transceiver was used. The sensor reading-transmission system and the data reception-acquisition system were implemented with the Atmega328p microcontroller on an Arduino Uno prototype development board. The data transmission and reading system was of the autonomous type, powered by a 12 V, 450 mah mono-crystalline type solar cell. A 12 volts lead-acid battery was used. The acquisition of data from the receiver to the pc was through the USB port, using the software processing, which stores the data every hour in a spreadsheet.
