EKKO: an open-source RISC-V soft-core microcontroller

Dissertação de mestrado em Engenharia Eletrónica Industrial e Computadores (especialização em Sistemas Embebidos e Computadores)Com o surgimento da Internet das Coisas (IoT em inglês) nos últimos anos, o número de “coisas” conectadas está a crescer a um ritmo bastante rápido. Estes dispositivos tornaram-se rapidamente parte do nosso dia a dia e já podem ser encontrados nos mais diversos domínios de aplicação, tais como, telecomunicações, saúde, agricultura, e automação industrial. Devido a este crescimento exponencial, a demanda por sistemas embebidos é cada vez maior, trazendo assim diversos desafios no seu desenvolvimento. De todos os desafios, o time-to-market e os custos de desenvolvimento são de inegável importância, logo, a escolha de uma plataforma de desenvolvimento adequada é essencial no desenho destes sistemas. Devido a este novo paradigma, o grupo de investigação da Universidade do Minho onde esta dissertação se insere tem desenvolvido aplicações neste domínio. No entanto, as atuais plataformas de desenvolvimento utilizadas são complexas, têm custos associados e são de código fechado. Por estas razões, o grupo de investigação tem interesse em ter a sua própria plataforma de desenvolvimento. De modo a solucionar os problemas enumerados acima, esta dissertação tem como objetivo desenvolver uma plataforma de desenvolvimento tanto para hardware como para software. A plataforma deve ser simples de utilizar e open-source, reduzindo assim os custos e a tornando a gestão de licenças mais simples. Para além disto, o facto de o sistema ser de código aberto faz também com que este possa ser facilmente estendido e customizado de acordo com os requisitos da aplicação. Neste sentido, esta dissertação apresenta um soft-core microcontroller, o qual contem um processador RISC-V, uma RAM, uma unidade de depuração, um temporizador, um periférico I2C e um barra mento AXI. Em adição, este contem também um kit de desenvolvimento de software (SDK em inglês), o qual inclui um depurador, a opção de utilizar o sistema operativo Azure RTOS ThreadX, e outras ferramentas importantes, tornando o ciclo de desenvolvimento mais fácil, rápido e seguro.With the advent of the Internet of Things (IoT) in most recent years, the number of connected “things” is increasing quickly. These devices rapidly became part of our daily lives and can be found in the most different applications domains, such as telecommunications, health care, agriculture and industrial automation. With this exponential growth, the demand for embedded devices is increasing, bringing several challenges to the development of these systems. From these challenges, the time-to-market and development costs are undeniable extremely important. Thus, choosing a suitable development platform is essential when designing an embedded system. Due to this new paradigm, the University of Minho research group where this dissertation fits has been developing applications in this domain. However, the current development platforms are complex, have associated costs and are closed-source. For these reasons, the research group has interesting in having its development platform. To solve these problems, this dissertation aims to build a development platform for both hardware and software. The platform must be simple and open-source, reducing development costs and simplifying license management. Besides, due to its open nature, it will also be easier to extend and modify the system according to the application’s needs. In this context, this dissertation presents EKKO, an open-source soft-core microcontroller that contains a RISC-V core, an on-chip RAM, a debug unit, a timer and an I2C peripheral, and an AXI bus. In addition, it also contains a Software Development Kit (SDK), which includes a debugger, the option to use Azure RTOS ThreadX, and other crucial tools, turning the development cycle more accessible, faster and safer

Rapid Sap Nutrient Analysis Methods in Malus Domestica Borkh Cv. ‘Gala’

Sap quick tests are well established in vegetable crops. However, there is less equivalent investigation for perennial crops, such as apple trees. Accessing the nutrient content, as opposed to the foliar analysis, would increase the opportunity of adjusting the fertilization, along the growing cycle. This work evaluates the relation between the NO3 −, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, PO4 3- and NH4 + contents in apple petiole sap, measured with the RQflex® test strips and laboratory methods to assess the possibility of using this tool with accuracy in in-situ sap analysis. Petiole samples were collected from six apple tree orchards, frozen and pressed. Dilution was mandatory for all nutrient determination, except NO3 −. The dilution factor varied with the stage of the annual cycle. The levels of NO3 −, K+, Mg2+, and Ca2+ followed the same pattern during the growing cycle, with both methods. Regression analysis resulted in high determination coefficients for NO3 − (R2 = 0.85), K+ (R2 = 0.86), Mg2+ (R2 = 0.81) and Ca2+ (R2 = 0.95), between RQflex® and laboratory methods. No equivalent relation was found for ammonium and phosphate determination. These tests can be useful tools for rational fertilization management, mainly in high-density apple orchards. AS CANDIDATURAS FEMININAS “FICTÍCIAS” E IMPUGNAÇÃO DE MANDATO ELETIVO

This essay aims to analyze, from the evolution of jurisprudence of the Electoral Justice, which procedural furniture capable of syndicating the occurrence of fraud to the electoral gender quota, concerning the configuration of so-called "orange" or "fictional" female candidatures, as well as the legal and electoral consequences applicable to such as the termination of the Statement of Regularity of Partisan Acts (DRAP), with the consequent annulment of the elective mandates obtained by the political party in the proportional elections, annulment of the voting attributed to all candidates and the imposition of ineligibility to those who practiced directly the fraud. It is concluded that the Impugnation of Elective Mandate Action (AIME) and the Electoral Judicial Investigation Action (AIJE) are procedural instruments suitable for the intended purpose.Este ensaio objetiva analisar, a partir da evolução jurisprudencial da Justiça Eleitoral, quais os móveis processuais aptos a sindicar a ocorrência de fraude à lei concernente à configuração das chamadas candidaturas “laranjas” ou “fictícias”, bem como as consequências jurídico-eleitorais aplicáveis à espécie, tais como a rescisão do Demonstrativo de Regularidade dos Atos Partidários (DRAP), com a consequente cassação dos mandatos eletivos obtidos pelo partido político nas eleições proporcionais, a anulação da votação atribuída a todos os candidatos e a imposição de inelegibilidade àqueles que praticaram diretamente a fraude. Conclui-se no sentido de que a Ação de Impugnação de Mandato Eletivo (AIME) e a Ação de Investigação Judicial Eleitoral (AIJE) são instrumentos processuais idôneos para a finalidade pretendida

Contributos para a História da Economia enquanto objecto e sujeito de conhecimento

Na época contemporânea, a relação entre o Estado e a economia assumiu uma posição central em diversos debates, de natureza histórica, teórica, prática e científica, nos meios académicos, políticos e sociais. Tendo em conta não só o problema da satisfação das nossas necessidades materiais, como o exercício da liberdade em geral, ambas as entidades têm sido continuamente sujeitas a críticas, escrutínios, análises, opiniões e políticas, por parte de pensadores, partidos, movimentos, interesses e todos aqueles que procuraram e procuram pela melhor (ou pior) maneira de se concretizar os dois objectivos em questão. Contudo, esse debate tem sido igualmente marcado por concepções do Estado e da economia que lhes garantem uma unidade, uniformidade e coerência a questionar. É por esse caminho que a presente dissertação envereda, com o intuito de dar a conhecer novas abordagens a essa relação, através das quais possamos oferecer novas respostas ou, mais importante ainda, novas perguntas para futura consideração.In the modern period, the State/economy relation has become central in many different debates, be it of a historical, theoretical, practical or scientific nature, in the academic, political and social domain. Taking into account not only the problem of satisfying our material needs, but of the exercise of freedom in general as well, both entities have been continuously subjected to critiques, scrutiny, analysis, opinions and policies, through the will of thinkers, parties, movements, interests and all those who sought and seek the best (or worse) way to achieve both objectives. However, such debate has also been marked by certain conceptions of both the State and the economy which attribute them a questionable unity, uniformity and coherence. Thus, the following dissertation is on exploring such issue, in order to present new approaches to the State/economy relation, through which one intends to offer new answers or, better yet, new questions for future consideration
