[Excerpt] Wireless networks play a key role in IoT applications, often with wireless sensor networks as ad hoc local area networks with self-healing routing, recent low-power wide-area network technologies enabling new application felds and/or more efcient architectures, and mobile networks ofering the possibility of extending applications to remote areas. Wireless networks also enable innovative and interesting applications ranging from smart-homes and smart-cities to precision agriculture and advanced healthcare.- The guest editors are thankful to the reviewers for their effort in reviewing the manuscripts. Revisiting the Black Brane Thermodynamic in Asymptotically Lifshitz Spacetime in κ\kappa-Horndeski Gravity

In this article, we investigate the thermodynamics of an asymptotically Lifshitz spacetime within κ\kappa-Horndeski gravity where the κ\kappa-algebra will be implemented in the kinetic term of this theory. In our investigation, we considered the black brane solutions in (3+1)-dimensions, which is a solution of κ\kappa-Horndeski theory for any value of critical exponent. In the canonical Ensemble, we explore the evolution of thermodynamics quantities in function of critical exponents and of the κ\kappa-algebra.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figure

Ecological mining: a case study on dam water quality

    Get PDF
The automatic assessment of barrage water quality is very restricted due to the distances, the number of biochemical parameters to be considered and the financial resources spent to obtain their values. To this scenario it should be added the latency times between the sampling moment and the outcome of the laboratory analyses. Although the idea of considering sensors for remote acquisition of data is not new, there are some constraints to be addressed, like: the existence of sensors to measure the pertinent parameters and their efficiency, the costs involved and the possibility of remote sensing. The application of this alternative is highly dependent on the relevance of the candidate parameters. At this point, the Data Mining (DM) approach assumes an important role, in the sense it can reveal the relative importance of the parameters, as well the prediction models to determine the water quality and finally the associated accuracies. This paper introduces a decision framework to support the selection of biochemical parameters to be considered in remote sensing of water contained in barrages. The framework enables the comparison of the efficiency of two kinds of models, using decision trees. The first one uses all the water quality indicators, including the time and cost consuming variables, while the second model is based only on remotely real-time acquired parameters. When comparing both strategies under several criteria (e.g., cost, time and confidence), the latter method showed to be best alternative

New Insights in the Management of Antipsychotics in the Treatment of Schizophrenia in a Patient with Prolactinoma: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

    Get PDF
Prolactinomas are the commonest pituitary adenomas and the major pathological cause of hyperprolactinaemia. Symptomatic prolactinomas are treated mainly by dopamine agonists; surgery and radiotherapy are options for nonresponders. Schizophrenia treatment is based on antipsychotics, which acts mainly at serotonergic and dopaminergic systems. We report a case of a 39-year-old schizophrenic male patient that was diagnosed with a macroprolactinoma 8 years after his first psychotic episode. The association of Schizophrenia and prolactinoma represents a clinical challenge once the treatment of one disease can exacerbate the symptoms of the other

Characterizations of complete linear Weingarten spacelike submanifolds in a locally symmetric semi-Riemannian manifold

In this paper, we deal with n-dimensional complete spacelike submanifolds Mn with flat normal bundle and parallel normalized mean curvature vector immersed in an (n + p)-dimensional locally symmetric semi-Riemannian manifold L_p^(n+p) of index p obeying some standard curvature conditions which are naturally satisfied when the ambient space is a semi-Riemannian space form. In this setting, we establish sufficient conditions to guarantee that, in fact, p = 1 and Mⁿ is isometric to an isoparametric hypersurface of L_1^(n+1)having two distinct principal curvatures, one of which is simple. The first author is partially supported by CAPES, Brazil. Our purpose in this article is to obtain sharp upper estimates for the first positive eigenvalue of a Jacobi type operator, which is a suitable extension of the linearized operators of the higher order mean curvatures of a closed hypersurface immersed either in the Euclidean space or in the Euclidean sphere.Brazilian National Research Council (CNPq): grant 303977/2015-9 y grant 308757/2015-7.peerReviewe
