Zum Transfer kulturspezifischer Textbedeutungen. Theoretische und methodische Überlegungen aus einer semiotischen Perspektive

This paper discusses the role of cultural specific text elements in the constitution of the meaning of the text and focuses the problems which these elements can cause in the translation process. It is based on a description of the translation process as symbiosis of the three categories language, text and culture in a specific situation. The described comprehension of translation turns the question of the methodology of the cultural transfer into a key question that consequently has an impact on the praxis and didactics of translation. The meaning of a text is the result of a complex interaction of different systems in which different types of knowledge are activated. The central question is how culture manifests itself within texts and how these manifestations can be reconstructed, i.e. how the translator's decisions can be made transparent in the context of the transfer. Firstly there is a theoretical reflection on the interdependence of the three categories language, culture and text in which the underlying semiotic conception of text and culture is outlined. On this basis a pragma-semiotic model of the constitution of the text as a complex sign is presented, and a methodology for an integrative text analysis is deduced from this theoretical conception of text constitution. The different forms of cultural specific elements are analyzed and categorized, whereas in addition to the traditional manifestations the concept of intertextuality is introduced and discussed as an important fact for the pragmatic and cultural coherence of the text. The defined forms of cultural specific text elements are illustrated by a number of examples taken from translation praxis and classroom. All the examples are translations from Spanish into German. Finally, the practical and didactical implications, which are of great importance for the training of further translators, are discussed

El entorno actual del mercado y la necesidad de traducción especializada en Alemania

Páginas 19-41.This article makes a brief description and examination of the labor market for translators in Germany. The impact of new technologies and forms of communication, such as the internet and other digital media, is taken into account. Experiences with this kind of qualification in Germany are described, with a special focus on the Master’s degree on Specialized Translation of the Cologne University of Applied Sciences (TH Köln). In this context, the lack of didactics for translation teaching and the implications of this are discussed, in order to prepare future translators for a growingly complex and challenging labor market.En este artículo se hace una breve descripción y evaluación del mercado laboral para traductores en Alemania. Se consideran los cambios ocurridos con base en las nuevas tecnologías y formas de comunicación a través del internet y los medios digitales. Se describen las experiencias con este tipo de formación en Alemania, con especial atención al Máster en Traducción Especializada de la Universidad de Ciencias Aplicadas de Colonia (TH Köln). En este contexto, también se discuten los déficits todavía existentes en la didáctica de la traducción y las implicaciones para superarlos, a fin de poder preparar a los futuros traductores adecuadamente a un mercado laboral cada vez más complejo y exigente.Dans cet article on fait une brève description et évaluation du marché de travail pour les traducteurs en Allemagne. On tient compte des changements survenus à partir des nouvelles technologies et des formes de communication à travers l’Internet et les moyens digitaux. On décrit les expériences avec ce type de formation en Allemagne, faisant spéciale attention au Master en Traduction Spécialisée de l’Université de Sciences Appliqués de Cologne (TH Köln). Sprachenvielfalt und Sprachenpolitik in Kolumbien: das Projekt der Ethnischen Bildung

This article deals with the linguistic situation in Colombia. In addition to its enormous biological and geographical diversity, Colombia also has an astonishing number of autochthonous languages that still exist. In total, there are 65 indigenous languages, two Creole languages and the Romani of the Roma community. First, the status quo of these languages is outlined. Special attention is given to language policy and language maintenance, because the current legally protected rights of the indigenous peoples, also with regard to the use of their own languages, required a longstanding struggle. The most important stages of this development are outlined, starting with the constitution of 1991. The project of ethnic education, initiated in 1985, is an outstanding example for all of Latin America with regard to an inclusive language and cultural policy. The most important milestones of this development are briefly discussed. The long way to achieving equal participation of the autochthonous peoples, the protection and preservation of their languages is not over yet. For this reason, the article concludes with a look at the latest language and cultural policy project, the Ten-Year Plan for Native Languages in Colombia, which will set the guidelines for language policy between 2022 and 2032

Brücken zwischen interkultureller Kommunikation und Technik

As a result of our research realized in the framework of the Erasmus Thematic Network (ERIC) we received serious indications that neither the cultural contexts of technology, let alone intercultural issues are taken seriously in technological/scientific education and training. This is the more surprising since many technological and business failures have provided proof enough that technology does not exist independently of the cultures in which it operates. Cultural issues have an impact on the attitudes towards technology, a society's willingness to accept technological and scientific development, and even on technological development itself. While a great deal of research has been done on the social and environmental results of technological development the relevance of culture for technology and of technology for culture have been much less explored. This paper presents the outcomes of the ERIC project and starts on a theoretical analysis of the views of the relationship between science/technology and their cultural contexts, the relevance of cultural factors in technological projects and the needs for cultural sensitivity in technology. On this base we outline the frame of a further research project which will try to apply the theoretical results in higher education programs in technology and engineering. Our partner for this project will be a Master programme named Integrated Water Resource Management at the Institute for Technology in the Tropics at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences, that started in autumn 2007 and which explicitly centres technology in cultural and intercultural contexts

Traducción y cultura: reflexiones sobre la dimensión cultural de textos y su importancia para la traducción

En el contexto del cambio cultural en Ciencia de la Traducción en los años 90, se observó la incorporación de factores extralingüísticos en sus estudios. Hoy, la cultura ocupa un lugar generalmente reconocido en la traductología. Sin embargo, quedan abiertas muchas preguntas de índole metodológico y concepcional. Además, el término es usado de un modo general e inflacionario y faltan modelos concretos que permitan operacionalizar la dimensión cultural de los textos para la práctica y la didáctica de la traducción. En este artículo se muestra la compleja interrelación entre lengua, cultura y traducción, a fin de presentar un modelo teórico para describir la dimensión cultural de los textos, que también sea aplicable a la práctica de la traducción. Se parte de una definición semiótica del texto y de la cultura, ya que se considera que la semiótica es la base adecuada para una Ciencia de la Traducción integradora e interdisciplinaria
