Serious game as support for the development of computational thinking for children with hearing impairment
Computational thinking (CT) has been a topic of interest in research, not only in the field of computer science, but also in education, since it allows the development of a set of competencies in the child related to problem-solving and decision-making. However, few studies on CT are focused on children with disabilities. Developing computational thinking skills for children with hearing problems is a challenge, even more so when their language skills are limited. Following a methodology for conception of serious games for children with hearing impairment called MECONESIS (Acronym in Spanish, MEtodologÃa para CONcepción de juEgos Serios para nIños con discapacidad auditiva), we designed the serious game Perdi-Dogs for children between 7 and 11 years old with hearing impairment. We considered a set of aspects, such as challenges/learning, control, rules, feedback, interaction, rewards, surprise, communication/language, and fantasy. Perdi-Dogs involves both a physical and a digital interface, specifically a physical board together with digital interaction, by means of a QR (Quick Response) code and vibrotactile feedback system. Perdi-Dogs simulates a real environment, using physical elements able to interact simultaneously with technology. Evaluation was carried out with a group of seven children between 7 and 11 years old from the Institute for Deaf and Blind Children (Colombia). The results showed a high motivation to play for all of the children involved in the experiment
Generation Of Entanglement In Quantum Parametric Oscillators Using Phase Control.
The control of quantum entanglement in systems in contact with environment plays an important role in information processing, cryptography and quantum computing. However, interactions with the environment, even when very weak, entail decoherence in the system with consequent loss of entanglement. Here we consider a system of two coupled oscillators in contact with a common heat bath and with a time dependent oscillation frequency. The possibility to control the entanglement of the oscillators by means of an external sinusoidal perturbation applied to the oscillation frequency has been theoretically explored. We demonstrate that the oscillators become entangled exactly in the region where the classical counterpart is unstable, otherwise when the classical system is stable, entanglement is not possible. Therefore, we can control the entanglement swapping from stable to unstable regions by adjusting amplitude and phase of our external controller. We also show that the entanglement rate is approximately proportional to the real part of the Floquet coefficient of the classical counterpart of the oscillators. Our results have the intriguing peculiarity of manipulating quantum information operating on a classical system.51315
Control of entanglement dynamics in a system of three coupled quantum oscillators
Sem informaçãoDynamical control of entanglement and its connection with the classical concept of instability is an intriguing matter which deserves accurate investigation for its important role in information processing, cryptography and quantum computing. Here we consider a tripartite quantum system made of three coupled quantum parametric oscillators in equilibrium with a common heat bath. The introduced parametrization consists of a pulse train with adjustable amplitude and duty cycle representing a more general case for the perturbation. From the experimental observation of the instability in the classical system we are able to predict the parameter values for which the entangled states exist. A different amount of entanglement and different onset times emerge when comparing two and three quantum oscillators. The system and the parametrization considered here open new perspectives for manipulating quantum features at high temperatures.718Sem informaçãoSem informaçãoSem informaçã
Hallazgo del género trigonobalanus forman, 1962 (fagaceae) en el neotrópico – i
A new species of Trigonobalanus is described from the clouded sub-Andean forest of the Upper Magdalena Valley in the Cueva de los Guacharos National Park, Colombia. The genus was previously known living today in Indonesia (Celebes), the Malayan Federation (Malaya, Sarawakand Sabah) and Thailand. The characters of the genus are extensively discussed in the light of the new findings and the classification proposed by Forman (1964) for the Fagaceae is accepted, except by the recognition of a new subfamily.A new species of Trigonobalanus is described from the clouded sub-Andean forest of the Upper Magdalena Valley in the Cueva de los Guacharos National Park, Colombia. Charged Annular Disks and Reissner-Nordstr\"{o}m Type Black Holes from Extremal Dust
We present the first analytical superposition of a charged black hole with an
annular disk of extremal dust. In order to obtain the solutions, we first solve
the Einstein-Maxwell field equations for sources that represent disk-like
configurations of matter in confomastatic spacetimes by assuming a functional
dependence among the metric function, the electric potential and an auxiliary
function, which is taken as a solution of the Laplace equation. We then employ
the Lord Kelvin Inversion Method applied to models of finite extension in order
to obtain annular disks. The structures obtained extend to infinity, but their
total masses are finite and all the energy conditions are satisfied. Finally,
we observe that the extremal Reissner-Nordstr\"{o}m black hole can be embedded
into the center of the disks by adding a boundary term in the inversion.Comment: 17 revtex pages, 8 eps figure
TRIM2, a novel member of the antiviral family, limits New World arenavirus entry
Tripartite motif (TRIM) proteins belong to a large family with many roles in host biology, including restricting virus infection. Here, we found that TRIM2, which has been implicated in cases of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMTD) in humans, acts by blocking hemorrhagic fever New World arenavirus (NWA) entry into cells. We show that Trim2-knockout mice, as well as primary fibroblasts from a CMTD patient with mutations in TRIM2, are more highly infected by the NWAs Junin and Tacaribe virus than wild-type mice or cells are. Using mice with different Trim2 gene deletions and TRIM2 mutant constructs, we demonstrate that its antiviral activity is uniquely independent of the RING domain encoding ubiquitin ligase activity. Finally, we show that one member of the TRIM2 interactome, signal regulatory protein alpha (SIRPA), a known inhibitor of phagocytosis, also restricts NWA infection and conversely that TRIM2 limits phagocytosis of apoptotic cells. In addition to demonstrating a novel antiviral mechanism for TRIM proteins, these studies suggest that the NWA entry and phagocytosis pathways overlap.Peer reviewe
Local invertibility in Sobolev spaces with applications to nematic elastomers and magnetoelasticity
We define a class of deformations in W^1,p(\u3a9,R^n), p>n 121, with positive Jacobian that do not exhibit cavitation. We characterize that class in terms of the non-negativity of the topological degree and the equality between the distributional determinant and the pointwise determinant of the gradient. Maps in this class are shown to satisfy a property of weak monotonicity, and, as a consequence, they enjoy an extra degree of regularity. We also prove that these deformations are locally invertible; moreover, the neighbourhood of invertibility is stable along a weak convergent sequence in W^1,p, and the sequence of local inverses converges to the local inverse. We use those features to show weak lower semicontinuity of functionals defined in the deformed configuration and functionals involving composition of maps. We apply those results to prove existence of minimizers in some models for nematic elastomers and magnetoelasticity
Citescore of publications indexed in Scopus: an implementation of panel data
This article is intended to establish the variables that explain the behavior of the CiteScore metrics from 2014 to 2016, for journals indexed in Scopus in 2017. With this purpose, journals with a CiteScore value greater than 11 were selected in any of the periods, that is to say, 133 journals. For the data analysis, a model of standard corrected errors for panel was used, from which a coefficient of determination of 77% was obtained. From the results, it was possible to state that journals of arts and humanities; business; administration and accounting; economics, econometrics, and finance; immunology and microbiology; medicine and social sciences, have the greatest impact.Corporación Universitaria Minuto de Dios, Fundación Universitaria Konrad Lorenz, Universidad de La Habana, Universidad de la Costa
Econometric analysis of the industrial growth determinants in Colombia
An econometric study is carried out using a panel data model with fixed effects to identify the industrial development determinants in Colombia during the term 2005–2015. The database used in the study corresponds to World Bank and the Colombian state. The determinants of industrial growth identified at the theoretical level that allow the enhancement of productive capacities to face foreign competition in Colombia are: innovation; networks of innovations and knowledge among companies and organizations; the interest rate; the capital-product ratio, the unit labor cost; and the exchange rate. The amount invested in scientific, technological and innovation activities by industrial group is the only variable that is not significant in the model
Agronomic evaluation of two unacidulated and partially acidulated phosphate rocks indigenous to Niger
A field study was conducted on a sandy soil in Niger to evaluate the agronomic effectiveness of various P fertilizers for millet production during 1985 to 1987. The P fertilizers tested were two finely ground phosphate rocks (PR) indigenous to Niger (Tahoua and Parc W rocks), PR partially acidulated with H2SO4 at 50% acidulation level (PAPR), single superphosphate (SSP), and triple superphosphate (TSP). In 1985, application rates were 0, 6.5, 13.0, and 19.5 kg P ha−1 for each of the P fertilizers. In 1986, half of the plots received the same rates of P as in 1985 and half of the plots received no additional P. In 1987, P additions were repeated only in half of the plots that received P during 1986. A significant (P = 0.05) millet response to P was observed in all the trials. The major findings of this study were: (i) finely ground Tahoua PR was more effective than Parc W PR because of its higher reactivity and was 82 to 91% as effective as SSP for millet production in both the initial and two subsequent seasons; (ii) partial acidulation of Parc W PR can significantly increase its agronomic effectiveness in the first year, but not in terms of residual effect; (iii) partial acidulation was not a desirable technology for increasing the effectiveness of Tahoua PR, because its high Fe2O3 plus Al2O3 content resulted in a product containing relatively low amounts of water-soluble P; and (iv) over a period of 3 yr, one initial application of a large dose of P fertilizer was found to be more effective than three small annual applications in terms of total grain productio
