Early Rehabilitation with Weight-bearing Standing-shaking-board Exercise in Combination with Electrical Muscle Stimulation after Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction

The objective of early rehabilitation after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is to increase the muscle strength of the lower extremities. Closed kinetic chain (CKC) exercise induces co-contraction of the agonist and antagonist muscles. The purpose of this study was to compare the postoperative muscle strength/mass of subjects who performed our new CKC exercise (new rehabilitation group:group N) from week 4, and subjects who received traditional rehabilitation alone (traditional rehabilitation group:group T). The subjects stood on the device and maintained balance. Then, low-frequency stimulation waves were applied to 2 points each in the anterior and posterior region of the injured thigh 3 times a week for 3 months. Measurement of muscle strength was performed 4 times (before the start, and then once a month). Muscle mass was evaluated in CT images of the extensor and flexor muscles of 10 knees (10 subjects) in each group. The injured legs of group N showed significant improvement after one month compared to group T. The cross-sectional area of the extensor muscles of the injured legs tended to a show a greater increase at 3 months in group N. This rehabilitation method makes it possible to contract fast-twitch muscles, which may be a useful for improving extensor muscle strength after ACL reconstruction

Deep Learning to Predicting Live Births and Aneuploid Miscarriages from Images of Blastocysts Combined with Maternal Age

Objectives: Making an artificial intelligence (AI) classifier that uses the maternal age and an image of the implanted blastocyst to determine the probability of getting a live birth. Methods: The dataset comprised maternal age data and 407 images of blastocysts which led to live births and 246 images of blastocysts which led to aneuploid miscarriages, matched for maternal age. An AI system using deep learning was developed for predicting the classification and probability of a live birth. Results: The accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values of the developed AI classifier were 0.75, 0.82, 0.64, 0.79, and 0.68, respectively. The area under the curve was 0.73 ± 0.04 (mean ± standard error). Conclusions: A classifier using AI for a blastocyst image combined with the maternal age showed potential in determining the probability of a live birth

Space Charge Distribution of Surface Discharge in SF₆ Gas

    Get PDF
Surface space-charge distributions produced by streamers in SF₆ are investigated using the probe method with a high speed temporal resolution. Probes which also act the role of a plane electrode, are used for measuring the space-charge field. The fields are measured oscilloscopically and converted into space-charge densities by a numerical calculation. This inverstigation has revealed the charge distribution before the disturbance caused by the well known “back-discharge”. This method is also applied for surface discharges in air, and its results are compared with that obtained in SF₆
