    Get PDF
In Malaysia, the legal and regulatory framework governing Islamic Capital Market industry provides for trust structure insukuk. Trustee plays an important role in sukuk. In fact in everysukuk issuance save for the issue or offer which comes under the exceptions provided for under Schedule 8 of the Capital Market Services Act 2007 (“CMSA”), a trustee is required to be appointed and a trust deed to be executed. Thus, trust structure is central in sukuk, so far as Malaysia is concerned. This paper studies the important roles of trustees in sukuk, its nature and the extent of powers and duties of trustees appointed therein. Itexamines the categories of trustees in sukuk and their designated functions as well the nature and extent of powers and duties of a trustee with an insight on the current practices in the Malaysian Islamic Capital Market industry dealing with trust structure insukuk. The study will also look at other relevant aspects in trust structure, which include the trust deed as the constitutive document and the role of trustee in the event of default of sukuk

Augmented reality to memorize Al-Quran for hearing impaired students: a preliminary analysis

    Get PDF
Quran learning among the hearing impaired has not been given much attention and exposure. This is due to the difference in the learning method among the hearing impaired compared to the non-hearing impaired. In lieu with this, a preliminary study has been conducted by using a qualitative approach. An interview was conducted with five experienced teachers to identify hearing impaired students’ behaviours and the method used to learn Al-Quran. Meanwhile, an observation with the hearing impaired students was also conducted. The findings show that the Tahfiz Akhyar method is used to memorize the surahs of Al-Quran by orderly arranging the verses using numbers. The memorization technique is based on the teaching of Prophet Muhammad when He taught the companions to learn Al-Quran. However, the result shows that, there are still errors in arranging the verses of the surahs in the correct order using the existing teaching aid. Therefore, these findings will be used as a guideline to develop the teaching aid application integrated with the Augmented Reality technology to help hearing impaired students to memorize the surahs of Al-Quran.Keywords: Augmented Reality, Quran learning, Hearing Impaired, and Memorizatio

In this paper, an analytical method for determining the stress-deformation condition of thin-walled box beam subjected to bending condition was developed. Solution by Vlasov method from a stationary condition complementary energy in Stress-form was developed and its adaptation and application through computer software MAPLE was demonstrated. Quick results can be obtained for various geometries, material properties and loading conditions enhancing parametric studies in design. Distortion effect (or shear lag effect) due to flexural bending was also included

Characterization of the performance of aluminum oxide nanoparticles modified asphalt binder

    Get PDF
This study investigates the physical and rheological properties of asphalt binders modified by nano aluminum oxide (AL2O3). Several conventional tests were conducted, including penetration, softening point and ductility, rotational viscosity and dynamic shear rheometer (DSR). Based on the results of the tests, it was found that the hardness of modified asphalt binders increased with the addition of nano AL2O3 up to 5%. As a result of the increased hardness, the softening point of modified asphalt improved compared with base asphalt binders. The rheological property of modified binders was enhanced at low and high temperatures. The results of a DSR test revealed that the G* were improved, whereas the δ decreased slightly. The addition of a different percentage of AL2O3 to base binder had a remarkable influence on resistance to permanent deformation (high temperature rutting and low temperature fatigue). Results recognize 5 wt.% as the optimum content of the modifier. Therefore, nano AL2O3 can be considered as a proper alternative additive to modify the properties of asphalt cement

Machining operation must be maintained for a long time in every period to achieve high productivity and prevent sudden failure or breakdown. This study aims to monitor conditions of four CNC machines from different places simultaneously using Internet of things (IoT) for predictive maintenance. Vibration signals of four CNC machines are measured using an accelerometer to collect and send signals directly to the database in real time. Results showed that acceleration signal in both time and frequency domains can identify conditions of each machine in real time and simultaneously monitor the condition of four CNC machines at different places through IoT for predictive maintenance

Chemical and physical properties of poly (lactic) acid modified bitumen

    Get PDF
This study investigates the feasibility and effect of poly(lactic) acid (PLA) on bitumen modification. The chemical and physical properties were evaluated for the modified bitumen produced with varying percentages of PLA ranging from 3 to 9%. Several testings such as the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Gel permeation chromatography (GPC), penetration, softening and ductility, and thermal storage stability were evaluated. The results show that chemical interaction exists between PLA and bitumen. The GPC analysis indicates high compatibility of the bitumen with the PLA modifier. Moreover, the results indicated that the addition of PLA increased the consistency of modified bitumen. The storage stability and segregation of phases were positively affected in the PLA modified bitumen. The PLA and base bitumen interact at physical and chemical levels which results in enhancement of performance of modified bitumen to produce a high-quality binding material for pavement construction

This study evaluates the adsorption of diazinon from aqueous solutions onto coconut shell-modified biochar using a batch system. The amount of dosage and initial pH are the main parameters being studied to obtain maximum adsorption capacity of the probe molecules. The carbonized coconut shell biochar (BC1), activated coconut shell biochar (BC2), chemically modified phosphoric acid (BC3) and sodium hydroxide coconut shell biochar (BC4) were prepared and tested as variables in the adsorption experiment. The characteristic of biochar via SEM, EDX and BET analysis revealed the large porous of surface morphology and slight changes in the composition with high surface area (405.97 – 508.07 m2/g) by following the sequence of BC3 > BC2 > BC4. Diazinon removal percentage as high as 98.96% was achieved at pH 7 with BC3 as adsorbent dosing at 5.0 g/L. The high coefficient of determination, R2 with a small value of ERRSQ and χ2 error analysis present the BC1 (0.9971) and BC2 (0.9999) are best fitted with Freundlich isotherm indicates multilayer sorption onto heterogeneous surface whereby the Langmuir isotherm model is the best fitting is described of monolayer adsorption process onto the homogenous surface of BC3 and BC4. The results indicated the maximum adsorption capacity (qm) was achieved by BC3 with 10.33 mg/g, followed by BC2 (9.65 mg/g) in accordance to the Langmuir isotherm while Freundlich isotherm showed the highest adsorption capacity (kF) with 1.73 mg/g (L/mg)1/n followed by BC4 with 0.63 mg/g (L/mg)1/n at favorable adsorption isotherm (1 ≤ n ≤ 10). Thus, the results obtained depicted that BC2 and BC3 are highly efficient adsorbents and both exhibit great potential in removing diazinon from aqueous solutions
