After giving a general view of the elevator as a mechanical device, we willdevelop its structure and stimulate elevators movement. The stimulation and the solution ofthe problem is made with the Mathcad software which is a great help in the mathematicalsolutions. In this work we will also handle the calculation of some of its mechanical parts.Very important aspects of developing electrical elevators are its security and hazards and agreat attention is given to calculation and the selection of breaking system. We will concludeby actualizing a model of an elevator in laboratory conditions

Jointly Addressing the Three Red Waves: Poverty, Inequality, and Climate Change

Poverty, inequality, and climate change –which, I refer to as ‘the three red waves’− are the defining issues of our time (Stern, 2009; World Bank, 2021a). They are all interconnected and their trends have clearly deteriorated in recent years. Firstly, the twenty-five-year trend of constantly declining global extreme poverty was interrupted in 2020, and currently, around 10 percent of the world's population lives in unbearable conditions (World Bank, 2020). Secondly, economic inequality continues to increase at unprecedented levels, with the richest 10 percent earning 52 percent of the world’s share of total income and possessing 76 percent of the total wealth (Chancel et al., 2022). Thirdly, climate change poses a persistent and existential threat, with the temperatures on Earth reaching record highs in recent decades, and exposing more than six billion people to moderate or severe ecological hazards (Stern, 2007, p.vi). Apparently, these issues are serious and persistent, and current government policy responses will determine the scale of future repercussions for human civilization and our planet. This dissertation primarily focuses on contemporary welfare states and environmental states, as uniquely positioned domains to jointly address ‘the three red waves’. Looking through the lens of these policy areas, and later expanding on their policy instruments and policy actors, in this research work I propose a three-fold contribution. In terms of policy areas, I developed a novel and systematic theoretical framework to explain global contemporary welfare state policy variations and directions. Building on a formal three-stage process, the framework includes the most pressing social, economic, and environmental risks of the twenty-first century, and it is empirically validated by advanced empirical methods, using a uniquely assembled dataset for one-hundred-fifty countries. Following these findings, I later present a refined theoretical and empirical understanding of the eco-welfare state −a concept aimed at exploring and promoting synergies between welfare states and environmental states. Moreover, considering that these policy areas can only be successful in tackling ‘the three red waves’ if crucial policy instruments are implemented and responsible policy actors take effective measures, I offer two other findings: I present a novel approach for predicting the pathways that lead to the highest public support for a policy instrument, and then provide insights into the variations in government leaders' responses to a specific crisis

An Analysis of DNF Maximum Entropy

    Get PDF
This study focuses on the entropy of functions computed by monotone DNF formulas. Entropy, which is a measure of uncertainty, information, and choice, has been long studied in the field of mathematics and computer science. We will be considering spectral entropy and focus on the conjecture that for each fixed number of terms t, the maximum entropy of a function computed by a t-term DNF is achieved by a function computable by a read-once DNF. A Python program was written to first express the t-term DNF Boolean functions as multilinear polynomials and then to compute their spectral entropy. This was done for the cases t = 1, 2, 3, 4. Our results agree with the conjecture and show that the maximum entropy occurs for functions with a small number of literals

Globalization process and its impact on Kosovo’s tourism development

Unlike modernization, globalization is a process somewhat independent from the will of its adhering participants. This thesis represents Robertson sociologist giving a description based on which capital, ideas and cultural codes, with the help of new communication tools, expand worldwide. With rapid development of media and mass electronic communications is eliminated the importance of space and leads to shrinking (narrowing) of time and space which is a serious threat to national cultural identities. Fukuyama in his apology of liberal democracy warns "final political neutralization of nationalism" in terms of overall centralization and linguistic unity of the world

Is the problem or the solution riskier? Predictors of carbon tax policy support

    Get PDF
Climate change is posing significant threats to human societies and developmental prospects. Governments continue to design and propose comprehensive climate policies aimed at tackling the climate crisis but often fail to successfully implement them. One reason is that securing public support for such policy instruments has proven to be challenging. While public opinion research has often documented a positive correlation between beliefs in climate change and policy support, it has also become clear that the presence of such beliefs is in many situations not enough for policy support. This is the starting point of our study in which we delve deeper into the link between climate change beliefs and policy support by specifically integrating risk perceptions related to climate change but also related to policy solutions. Empirically, we leverage survey data from the United States and Switzerland and employ the random forest technique to further explore the mechanisms that link climate change beliefs, risk perceptions, and policy support. We use the case of carbon taxation, which is considered a particularly effective instrument by ecological economists but seems to be particularly unpopular politically. The results of this study suggest that beliefs and risk perceptions are very important predictors of support for carbon tax policies. Furthermore, they unveil the strongest predictors and specific patterns that generate the highest support in the United States and Switzerland

Europeanization through Migration Policies: Legislative Comparison between Civil Law Systems and Common Law Systems

    Get PDF
Within the European Union there are several states that have implemented laws, often following different paradigms, to cope not only with the increase in migratory flows, but also to foster the integration and participation of the migrants themselves in socio-political and economic life . In recent decades, immigration into Europe has become a matter of primary and strategic importance for the definition of both internal policies and the external relations of the Union. The progressive settlement of substantial national and ethnic groups poses important economic, social and cultural challenges, to which the policies implemented have so far only partially responded. Guiding concepts like integration, assimilation and respect for diversity still struggle to find an adequate realization in the reception policies of the European states. In this regard, a real revolution in this area was the realization of the "common basic principles" of 2004, which made member states become aware of the respect for fundamental rights, non-discrimination and equal opportunities for all (Niessen,. Schibel, 2007), and it later became a mere "Common agenda for Integration". In this context, we can recall the decision of the Council and of the European Parliament n.1983 / 2006 which proclaimed 2008 as the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue. With this research, we intend to analyze the regulations concerning the migration of European governments and how they have changed over time, paying particular attention to the activation of inclusion strategies in some European Union countries; at the same time, we intend to find a strategy for a possible cooperation in the management of migratory processes. The integration regulations launched in Italy, Germany, France and the United Kingdom will be examined from the 1940s to 2015 and a comparative study will be conducted between the Community policies and the policies of four countries chosen to highlight common features and divergences

Determinants of Capital Structure: Evidence from Banking Sector in Albania

The aim of this thesis is to give a general view on theoretical and empirical study of capital structure in Banking system in Albania, its components and the factors affecting the decision how to efficiently allocate the capital needed for the second level banks. There are many factors and determinants which affect the capital structuring within a bank. The question each manager should do and the approaches the analysts and researchers have done, is analyzed in this research. The most important components of capital structure are its determinants and how they affect the leverage ratio. In this paper will be introduced an econometric regression analyses about second level banks in Albania. The sample is composed of some important determinants of four biggest second level banks (BKT, Raiffeisen Bank, Intesa Sanpaolo Bank, ProCredit Bank) operating in Albania for years 2008 - 2013. Size, profitability, growth and tangibility are used as independent variables, while leverage ratio is the dependent variable. The empirical study determines if these variables are important over the capital structure and whether the independent variables are significant over the leverage ratios of the second level banks. As a result of this research findings, it is found that the main determinant factors which contribute to the bank leverage level of the Banking industry in Albania between the years 2008 to 2013 are mainly capital adequacy, tangibility, bank size and profitability with all of these factors conforming to sign expectations based on following empirical findings.Epoka Universit

“Soft” TQM and Performance of Local Government (A Case Study of Municipality of Tirana, Albania)

    Get PDF
Nowadays, the philosophy of organizational management with the client at the center of managerial policies and operations, has been mastered not only by profitable organizations but also non-profit ones. Central and local government bodies, mainly in developed countries, have successfully applied consumer-oriented management philosophy. Quality management is one of the disciplines, equipped with all the theoretical and practical arsenal for the successful implementation of this orientation. It is being used as a productive and innovative tool, to achieve the objectives of profit and non-profit organizations. Providing quality services by local units means increasing the satisfaction of service beneficiaries (individual or organization), creating trust through transparent processes, accountability and democratic dialogue. The aim of this study is to assess the level of implementation of "soft" elements of Total Quality Management [TQM] according to the perception of employees in local units in the city of Tirana and its impact on performance
