    Weaving the Web(VTT) of Data

    International audienceVideo has become a first class citizen on the Web with broad support in all common Web browsers. Where with struc- tured mark-up on webpages we have made the vision of the Web of Data a reality, in this paper, we propose a new vi- sion that we name the Web(VTT) of Data, alongside with concrete steps to realize this vision. It is based on the evolving standards WebVTT for adding timed text tracks to videos and JSON-LD, a JSON-based format to serial- ize Linked Data. Just like the Web of Data that is based on the relationships among structured data, the Web(VTT) of Data is based on relationships among videos based on WebVTT files, which we use as Web-native spatiotemporal Linked Data containers with JSON-LD payloads. In a first step, we provide necessary background information on the technologies we use. In a second step, we perform a large- scale analysis of the 148 terabyte size Common Crawl corpus in order to get a better understanding of the status quo of Web video deployment and address the challenge of integrat- ing the detected videos in the Common Crawl corpus into the Web(VTT) of Data. In a third step, we open-source an online video annotation creation and consumption tool, targeted at videos not contained in the Common Crawl cor- pus and for integrating future video creations, allowing for weaving the Web(VTT) of Data tighter, video by video

    Neurocritical care complications and interventions influence the outcome in aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage

    Background This observational study was performed to show the impact of complications and interventions during neurocritical care on the outcome after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Methods We analyzed 203 cases treated for ruptured intracranial aneurysms, which were classified regarding clinical outcome after one year according to the modified Rankin Scale (mRS). We reviewed the data with reference to the occurrence of typical complications and interventions in neurocritical care units. Results Decompressive craniectomy (odds ratio 21.77 / 6.17 ; p < 0.0001 / p = 0.013), sepsis (odds ratio 14.67 / 6.08 ; p = 0.037 / 0.033) and hydrocephalus (odds ratio 3.71 / 6.46 ; p = 0.010 / 0.00095) were significant predictors for poor outcome and death after one year beside “World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies” (WFNS) grade (odds ratio 3.86 / 4.67 ; p < 0.0001 / p < 0.0001) and age (odds ratio 1.06 / 1.10 ; p = 0.0030 / p < 0.0001) in our multivariate analysis (binary logistic regression model). Conclusions In summary, decompressive craniectomy, sepsis and hydrocephalus significantly influence the outcome and occurrence of death after aneurysmal SAH

    The Hitchhiker\u27s Guide to Europe: the infection dynamics of an ongoing Wolbachia invasion and mitochondrial selective sweep in Rhagoletis cerasi

    Wolbachia is a maternally inherited and ubiquitous endosymbiont of insects. It can hijack host reproduction by manipulations such as cytoplasmic incompatibility (CI) to enhance vertical transmission. Horizontal transmission of Wolbachia can also result in the colonization of new mitochondrial lineages. In this study, we present a 15-year-long survey of Wolbachia in the cherry fruit fly Rhagoletis cerasi across Europe and the spatiotemporal distribution of two prevalent strains, wCer1 and wCer2, and associated mitochondrial haplotypes in Germany. Across most of Europe, populations consisted of either 100% singly (wCer1) infected individuals with haplotype HT1, or 100% doubly (wCer1&2) infected individuals with haplotype HT2, differentiated only by a single nucleotide polymorphism. In central Germany, singly infected populations were surrounded by transitional populations, consisting of both singly and doubly infected individuals, sandwiched between populations fixed for wCer1&2. Populations with fixed infection status showed perfect association of infection and mitochondria, suggesting a recent CI-driven selective sweep of wCer2 linked with HT2. Spatial analysis revealed a range expansion for wCer2 and a large transition zone in which wCer2 splashes appeared to coalesce into doubly infected populations. Unexpectedly, the transition zone contained a large proportion (22%) of wCer1&2 individuals with HT1, suggesting frequent intraspecific horizontal transmission. However, this horizontal transmission did not break the strict association between infection types and haplotypes in populations outside the transition zone, suggesting that this horizontally acquired Wolbachiainfection may be transient.     Tolerability of inhaled N-chlorotaurine in the pig model

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>N-chlorotaurine, a long-lived oxidant produced by human leukocytes, can be applied in human medicine as an endogenous antiseptic. Its antimicrobial activity can be enhanced by ammonium chloride. This study was designed to evaluate the tolerability of inhaled N-chlorotaurine (NCT) in the pig model.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Anesthetized pigs inhaled test solutions of 1% (55 mM) NCT (n = 7), 5% NCT (n = 6), or 1% NCT plus 1% ammonium chloride (NH<sub>4</sub>Cl) (n = 6), and 0.9% saline solution as a control (n = 7), respectively. Applications with 5 ml each were performed hourly within four hours. Lung function, haemodynamics, and pharmacokinetics were monitored. Bronchial lavage samples for captive bubble surfactometry and lung samples for histology and electron microscopy were removed.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Arterial pressure of oxygen (PaO<sub>2</sub>) decreased significantly over the observation period of 4 hours in all animals. Compared to saline, 1% NCT + 1% NH<sub>4</sub>Cl led to significantly lower PaO<sub>2 </sub>values at the endpoint after 4 hours (62 ± 9.6 mmHg vs. 76 ± 9.2 mmHg, p = 0.014) with a corresponding increase in alveolo-arterial difference of oxygen partial pressure (AaDO<sub>2</sub>) (p = 0.004). Interestingly, AaDO<sub>2 </sub>was lowest with 1% NCT, even lower than with saline (p = 0.016). The increase of pulmonary artery pressure (PAP) over the observation period was smallest with 1% NCT without difference to controls (p = 0.91), and higher with 5% NCT (p = 0.02), and NCT + NH<sub>4</sub>Cl (p = 0.05).</p> <p>Histological and ultrastructural investigations revealed no differences between the test and control groups. The surfactant function remained intact. There was no systemic resorption of NCT detectable, and its local inactivation took place within 30 min. The concentration of NCT tolerated by A549 lung epithelial cells <it>in vitro </it>was similar to that known from other body cells (0.25–0.5 mM).</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>The endogenous antiseptic NCT was well tolerated at a concentration of 1% upon inhalation in the pig model. Addition of ammonium chloride in high concentration provokes a statistically significant impact on blood oxygenation.</p

    Conception and development of a software architecture for augmented reality applications in combination with a smartwatch-based user interface

    Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, ein Software-Architektur-Konzept zu entwickeln, umzusetzen und zu evaluieren, dessen Fokus auf die Kombination einer Smartwatch-Anwendung mit einer AR-Brille-Anwendung gerichtet ist. Dazu wurde ein Patent untersucht, dessen Schwerpunkt auf der Kombination von AR-Brille und Smartwatch liegt, um Anforderungen an solch eine Software-Architektur zu erstellen. Im Anschluss entstand unter Einbeziehung der recherchierten Informationen ein Architektur-Konzept. Für die darauffolgende Umsetzung wurden Anwendungsfälle entwickelt, die zeigen sollen, wie ausgewählte Software-Qualitätsmerkmale bei Verwendung der Architektur erreicht werden können. Bei der anschließenden Evaluation zeigte sich, dass die Architektur zur Erfüllung wichtiger Software-Qualitätsmerkmale beiträgt, aber auch Optimierungspotenzial besitzt
