Fused and spiro nitrogen heterocycles of quinuclidine and its C-nucleosides

    Get PDF
Quinuclidin-3-one (1) was used as a versatile intermediate for the synthesis of fused and spiro quinuclidine and its C-nucleosides. The reaction of 1 with formalin and secondary amines namely; morpholine, piperidine, and piperazine afforded the corresponding Mannich bases 2-4 in acid medium. Quinuclidino[3,2-b]pyran 5 has been synthesized via a selective cyclocondensation reaction between Mannich base of quinuclidinone hydrochloride 2 and malononitrile. The transformation of 1 with formalin and methylamine in molar ratio (1:20:2) afforded the spiro compound 7. Ring expansion of 2 under Schmidt reaction conditions gave the 1,3-diazabicyclo[3.2.2]nonanone derivative 6. Eventually, the synthesis of C-nucleosides 10, 12-14 were achieved by using aldohexoses and aldopentose catalyzed by zinc chloride, while, the bis-quinuclidine derivative 15 was obtained by using sodium carbonate. Newly synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, 1H NMR, and mass spectral data

3D strata visualization in web environment – Review

    Get PDF
Nowadays, rapid population growth has caused a high demand of land and stratified property especially in urban areas (big city). In cadastral system, visualization is considered as a tool for reflecting the real world which is commonly drawn in 2-Dimensional (2D) based plan. However, it only works efficiently for land parcel but not in representing strata property (high rise building). The complexity and overlapping boundaries also need to be considered in portraying 3-Dimensional (3D) model which cannot be achieved using only 2D plan. On top of that, the need of providing a 3D visualization platform has been recognised by many researchers worldwide. There have been numbers of 3D Cadastral system prototype being developed for different country such as Australia, Russia and Indonesia. 3D visualization helps enhanced communication between users, improve decision making, and helps to manage and facilitate land information system. This paper therefore seeks to analyse the problems related to the visualisation for the application of strata and the current approach of 3D visualisation. It is carried out by investigating different techniques and methods used in visualising 3D objects. The outcome of this paper would be the solutions in finding suitable visualization tools to be developed via Web-based visualization applications which are common with end users and easily accessible due to advancements in technology

The growth performances of giant Malaysia prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) in different compartments of an integrated culture system were evaluated during 12 weeks culture period. Macrobrachium rosenbergii were placed in tanks at about 150 individuals per tank. The experiment divided into five treatments and control tank with three replicates. Result on growth performance of M. rosenbergii shows the growth relative rate, final length and final weight differed significantly (p<0.05) between treatment. For the length-weight relationship, the growth coefficient (b) of M. rosenbergii was ranged between 2.37 to 3.38 at 95% confidence limit which concentration with 20 g recorded the higher value and the lower was recorded by the concentration of 40 g. The regression between length and weight showed a positive relationship which r 2 values ranged of 0.89 to 0.99. No significant difference (p>0.05) was observed during the study period on high, leaf width and weight of vegetables. In an integrated culture system, both Malaysian prawns and vegetables grow well in this system

Learning motivation has been examined for its positive influence on learning outcomes. However, little attention has been addressed to the development of measuring instruments of learning motivation in the context of reading the Quran in Indonesian higher education. This study was designed to develop a Quran learning motivation questionnaire. The Self-Determination Theory (SDT) was applied as a theoretical framework to explore the type dan level of motivation. Participants involved in this study were 420 students. They were divided into subsample one for exploratory factor analysis (N = 200) and subsample two with confirmatory factor analysis (N = 220). The questionnaire was developed with 12 item-three factors using five points Likert scale that can measure the learning motivation in reading Quran. The results of the study show that the level of student motivation is relatively low (M= 3.12), and the intrinsic motivation type (M= 3.99) is more dominant than extrinsic motivation survival (M= 2.99) and approval (M= 2.38) with a p-value of 0.000. In addition, it was found that female students (M= 3.19) had significantly higher motivation than male students (M= 3.04), with a p-value of 0.017

The construction industry is known as one of the most hazardous activities. Therefore, safety on the job site is an important aspect with respect to the overall safety in construction. This paper assesses the safety level perception of the construction building workers towards safety, health and environment on a construction job site in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The above study was carried out by choosing 5 selected large building construction projects and 5 small building construction projects respectively in and around Kuala Lumpur area. In the present study, an exhaustive survey was carried out in these 10 project site areas using a standard checklist and a detailed developed questionnaire. The checklist comprised 17 divisions of safety measurements which are considered and perceived to be important from the safety point of view and was assessed based on the score obtained. The questionnaire comprised the general information with 36 safety attitude statements on a 1-5 Likert scale which was distributed to 100 construction workers. The results of the checklist show the difference of safety levels between the large and small projects. The study revealed that the large projects shown a high and consistent level in safety while the small projects shown a low and varied safety levels. The relationship between the factors can be obtained from the questionnaire. They are organizational commitment, factor influencing communication among workmates, worker related factors, personal role and supervisors’ role factors, obstacles to safety and safe behavior factors and management commitment at all levels in line with the management structure and risk taking behavioral factors. The findings of the present study revealed invaluable indications to the construction managers especially in improving the construction workers’ attitude towards safety, health and environment and hence good safety culture in the building construction industries
