The PC/AT compatible computer as a mission control center display processor at Ames-Dryden Flight Research Facility

    Get PDF
Since 1982, the Western Aeronautical Test Range of the Ames-Dryden Flight Research Facility has been separating the data acquisition and processing function required on all telemetry pulse code modulation (PCM) data and the display processing function required in the flight research mission control centers (MCCs). These two functions historically have been done on the same set of superminicomputers remote from the MCCs. Removing the display processing function from the realm of the superminis or telemetry-radar acquisition and processing system (TRAPS) and out into the MCCs will allow the research engineers the flexibility to configure their own display processing system to optimize performance during a flight research mission. Meanwhile, the TRAPS will have more time to acquire data. One of the processors chosen is an IBM PC/AT compatible rack-mounted personal computer. This class and type machine will not only allow the transfer of the display processing function into the MCCs, but also allow the research engineers a personalized set of analytic and display tools for use on their own unique sets of data

Faculty and Staff Perception of Financial Fraud in Higher Education

This research was designed to survey full-time faculty and staff, from multiple universities, about their experience of fraud within their current and previous institution. Through the survey, we were provided insight into the perception of fraud within higher education institutions and the faculty and staff perception of how the institution handled it. Through the information provided in the survey, it is revealed if whether fraud is a rare occurrence at most institutions or if whether it is a bigger problem than it appears to be. In addition, we will learn how many instances of fraud within different institutions participants have experienced. We will learn if whether the respondents perceive fraud as an issue, which may need addressing by institution administration. This work will also provide insight as to the views of faculty and staff on how cases of proven fraud should be handled, and if the institutions cases of fraud properly

While many soft writing tutoring skills have helped Hammons in her classroom, she finds that not all tutoring skills transfer well to teaching. Hammons is complimentary of peer tutoring\u27s emphasis on wait time, silence, and adapting to individual needs. However, she finds she does not need these skills as often in teaching because of the long-term relationship she has with her students. Hammons asserts that better student and tutor education on the purpose of writing centers--along with students visiting the same tutor repeatedly-- will help tutors and students make the most of their brief time together

This unit is designed for the second year of the IB Diploma Programme Spanish Ab Initio course, but could be adapted for native speakers or an AP Spanish class as well. This unit focuses on building on students’ prior knowledge of the damage done to the environment. It gives them the basic vocabulary they need to read, write, and talk about planet earth, environmental issues, and possible solutions. It contains plenty of practice with the subjunctive tense, specifically structured with emotional and opinion-based statements and impersonal expressions. The performance task expects students to do research in their native language on one of six environmentally-related topics, including an environmental issue, two possible solutions, advantages and disadvantages for each of those solutions, and finally, the students’ opinions on those solutions. This task gives students an opportunity to combine all of the vocabulary they have learned throughout the unit to express what they think and show what they are passionate about regarding the world around them. The ultimate goal for this unit is to open students’ eyes to what they can do as ordinary citizens to slow down, if not repair, the damage that humans have done to the earth
