The N-Vortex Problem on a Symmetric Ellipsoid: A Perturbation Approach

We consider the N-vortex problem on a ellipsoid of revolution. Applying standard techniques of classical perturbation theory we construct a sequence of conformal transformations from the ellipsoid into the complex plane. Using these transformations the equations of motion for the N-vortex problem on the ellipsoid are written as a formal series on the eccentricity of the ellipsoid's generating ellipse. First order equations are obtained explicitly. We show numerically that the truncated first order system for the three-vortices system on the symmetric ellipsoid is non-integrable.Comment: 14 pages, 1 figur

A produção de sentidos subjetivos em hipertensos e nos seus familiares

Esta monografia apresenta como tema central em seu escopo teórico a produção do sentido subjetivo em relação ao processo saúde-doença em sujeitos hipertensos e em seus familiares. Busca conhecer como se produzem e se articulam os sentidos subjetivos e seus desdobramentos frente à doença, na perspectiva do paciente como também do familiar de hipertenso. Para tal, fundamenta-se na Teoria da Subjetividade desenvolvida por González Rey e suas principais categorias: subjetividade, subjetividade social, subjetividade individual, sujeito, sentido subjetivo e configuração subjetiva. Analisa os processos constituintes de saúde e doença e ancora-se na noção de que ambas desenvolvem-se como um processo complexo, organizando-se de forma subjetiva. Nessa perspectiva adota uma visão mais ampla que enxergue a saúde como um sistema processual, multidimensional, plurideterminado, multireferenciado e articulado com os processos sócio-históricos que constituem subjetividade do sujeito. A metodologia empregada baseia-se na Epistemologia Qualitativa desenvolvida por González Rey, embasada no conhecimento como uma produção construtivainterpretativa, de caráter interativo e legitimado pela qualidade da expressão particular do indivíduo. Essa proposta epistemológica permite a criação de novas zonas de sentido, possibilitando assim, a construção de informações ao longo do processo de comunicação, sendo que o objetivo dessa construção é dar visibilidade à maneira como se constituem as configurações subjetivas da hipertensão. Utilizou-se um estudo de caso envolvendo dois participantes, sendo que pelo próprio tema da pesquisa os participantes devem possuir algum grau de parentesco. Por fim, realizam-se algumas considerações sobre o caso analisado, em que se pode observar a singularidade e os desdobramentos do processo saúdedoença vividos pelos participantes da pesquisa

Mechanical properties and volatile emission behavior of short silica fibers/polypropylene composites

A proteção à saúde humana constitui um dos princípios estabelecidos pelas indústrias automotivas visando ao desenvolvimento e à produção sustentáveis de seus modelos. Desafios residem na redução nos níveis de emissões não só de combustíveis, mas também dos voláteis presentes no interior dos automóveis. A incorporação de fibras curtas de sílica natural amorfa em compósitos de polipropileno foi investigada como uma proposta de desenvolvimento de novos materiais, os quais permitam a redução de peso do veículo e consequente economia de combustível, além de atenderem aos níveis de emissões especificados para componentes internos. Com o objetivo de avaliar o efeito de reforço e a influência do conteúdo de compatibilizante na interface fibra-matriz, amostras com 0 e 20% em peso de fibra, bem como com variações do teor de PP-g-MAH (0, 1, 2 e 4% em peso), foram analisadas. Os resultados satisfatórios obtidos para as propriedades de tensão no escoamento, módulo de flexão, alongamento na ruptura, resistência ao impacto Charpy com entalhe e comportamento a emissões sugerem que a concentração ótima do compatibilizante é de 2%, acima da qual as alterações não foram significativas. Conclui-se que fibras curtas de sílica constituem uma alternativa potencial de reforço para materiais empregados em peças automotivas.The protection to the human health is one of the most important principles guiding the automotive industries for a sustainable development and production of their cars. The challenges to be faced are not only in reducing fuel consumption but also in decreasing the emission from volatiles in the car interior. The incorporation of natural amorphous short silica fibers in polypropylene composites was investigated as a proposal for creating new materials, aimed at reducing the car weight (with a consequent fuel economy), and meeting the emission requirements for interior components. In order to evaluate the influence from the compatibilizer on the fiber-polymer interface, samples with 0 and 20 wt. (%) of silica fibers, as well as with varying contents of PP-g-MAH (0, 1, 2 and 4 wt. (%)), were tested. The satisfactory results obtained for yield stress, flexural modulus, elongation at break, notched Charpy impact strength properties and emission behavior suggest that the optimum compatibilizer content is 2 wt. (%), above which there was no significant change. Therefore, short silica fibers are a potential alternative reinforcement for materials of automotive parts

Perspectivas sobre a responsabilidade civil: danos punitivos

A presente monografia tem como objetivo apresentar e analisar a admissibilidade do instituto dos punitive damages pelo ordenamento jurídico brasileiro. Procurou-se apresentar o instituto em comento à luz do ordenamento jurídico de origem, sem ignorar o sistema de responsabilidade civil brasileiro, sobre o qual impendeu também analisar com vistas a possibilitar uma comparação entre os institutos que dão suporte para o sistema indenizatório da civil law e common law. Por fim, buscou-se explicitar os argumentos da doutrina pátria acerca da possibilidade de aplicação dos punitive damages no Brasil e, dessa exposição, concluir acerca da admissibilidade

A capoeira como conteúdo pedagógico na educação física escolar

O presente estudo traz como temática de discussão a implantação da capoeira na educação física escolar. Apesar de fazer parte da cultura corporal do movimento contido nos Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais a capoeira ainda é pouco explorada pelos professores. Deste modo, o objetivo deste estudo é mostrar como a capoeira pode ser inserida enquanto conteúdo pedagógico da educação física escolar, destacando os seus benefícios e a forma como podem ser abordada de maneira pedagogicamente satisfatória. Este trabalho é fruto de uma revisão bibliográfica realizada em artigos, qualificando-o como um estudo do tipo exploratório. A Capoeira tem se destacado cada vez mais e conquistado um espaço cada vez mais amplo, porém, o caminho para torná-la parte da matriz curricular dos alunos ainda é longo e cheio de desafios. Ressalta-se que além da importância histórica e cultural, a capoeira traz inúmeros benefícios à saúde além de agregar valores sociais e comunitários justificando a importância da inserção desse conteúdo nas aulas. Ao concluir este trabalho verifica-se que a capoeira nas escolas não é uma realidade seguida, porém com a preparação pedagógica adequada a capoeira torna-se um instrumento valioso para a educação física escolar

Tratamento cirúrgico da ginecomastia em um bode da raça Saanen

Background:  :  :  : Gynaecomastia in male goats is characterized by abnormal development of the mammary gland. Enlarged udder may be observed cranially to the scrotum, which can occasionally reach the size of the testicles. The udder may carry functional glands and impair the animal’s reproductive performance and welfare. The case of a successful surgical treatment of gynaecomastia in a high reproductive performance Saanen buck-goat is reported in the present study. Material, Methods & Results: The animal was admitted presenting significant augmentation of the mammary glands, which was clinically diagnosed as gynaecomastia. The male goat owned optimal phenotypic characteristics for the Saanen breed, which had been producing high performance descendents. The mammary glands had been impairing the goat’s locomotion and sexual performance. Manual milking resulted in great amount of milk secretion. The animal presented anorexia and impaired sexual performance. After clinical and laboratorial evaluation, the animal was submitted to radical mastectomy. An elliptic skin incision was performed around each mammary gland. Subcuticular blunt dissection was accomplished to isolate the mammarian tissue from the abdominal muscular layer and the spermatic chord. The excised mass was sampled for histological assessment. Subcuticular layer and skin closure was carried in a routine fashion. Hygienization of the surgical wound was performed with 2,5% PVP-I solution for ten days. Additionally, an association of penicillin G benzathine and streptomycin, and fluxinin meglumine were also given. The surgical procedure was successfully accomplished without any peroperative complication. The excised mass was sampled for anatomic/histological assessment. Macroscopically, the left mammary gland presented 22 cm in length, 12 cm wide and 26 cm in diameter. The right gland presented 16 cm in length, 7 cm wide and 13,5 cm in diameter. The microscopic assessment revealed hyperplasia of the glandular ducts. No abnormalities resembling malignant mammary neoplasms or degeneration were observed. At the end of the treatment, the animal was completely recovered. The animal convalesced satisfactorily and surgical wound healed completely within the first 10 days post-op. The goat was not culled and returned to normal reproductive activity. Within 12 months of follow-up, the animal was able to produce high milk yield performance progenies. Discussion: This case report presented relevant aspects of the surgical management of gynaecomastia, especially to veterinary practitioners dealing with milk goats. Gynaecomastia is not as common as other reproductive disorders in domestic animals. In opposition to the findings of the present study, other trials revealed that gynaecomastia usually does not affect fertility, libido, ejaculate parameters and sexual performance of goats. However, it is important to consider that neoplasic disorders such as mammary adenocarcinoma may be present, even though these are rare complications. Last but not least, the decision making on mastectomy in the present study was crucial in order to reestablish the animal’s welfare and its functionality in the farms reproduction program

Alternatives for establishing a surgical airway during the COVID-19 pandemic

Currently doctors and health professionals are facing a challenging pandemic caused by a new strain called 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). Human infection with COVID-19 does not yet have the clinical spectrum fully described, and the pattern of lethality, mortality, infectivity and transmissibility is not known with precision. There is no specific vaccine or medication available. Treatment is supportive and nonspecific. In Brazil, as in the rest of the world, the number of COVID-19 cases has grown alarmingly, leading to an increase in the number of hospitalizations as well as in mortality from the disease. Currently, the states with the highest number of cases are, respectively, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Distrito Federal and Ceará. The objective of this work is to offer alternatives in order to guide surgeons regarding the surgical management of the airways in patients with suspicion and / or confirmation for COVID-19 infection
