Energy and Macronutrients Intake in Indoor Sport Team Athletes: Systematic Review

    Get PDF
Indoor team sports are characterized by matches that are shorter in duration and with frequent substitution (high-intensity intermittent). The main goal of teams is to best cover athletes’ physiological demands, while meeting their dietary intake needs is critical. The aim of this study is to conduct a systematic review of the dietary intake of indoor team sports athletes and to analyze whether they comply with nutritional recommendations. A search of PubMed-MEDLINE, Web of Science, and Scopus databases from 2008 to July 2022 was conducted and 2727 documents were identified. The studies focused on adult professional or semi-professional volleyball, basketball, handball, or futsal athletes. Two independent researchers screened and extracted the data, with 20 documents included after they met the inclusion criteria. Most of the athletes, both men and women, did not meet the official recommendations based on under-consumption (energy and carbohydrates) or over-consumption (fats). In relation to protein, 28.6% of studies met the recommendations, with 50% of those who did not meet it being due to under-consumption. Although there are references on athletes’ dietary intakes, there are no references considering sexes or types of sport. More adapted recommendations are needed in order to more precisely evaluate athletes’ intake to know if they meet their real nutritional requirements

A novel electrochemiluminescence (ECL) immunosensor based on electrografted carbon nanodots (CND) is developed for the sensitive determination of glyphosate in soy milk and tea. Nitrogen rich CND were synthesized by microwave radiations using mild conditions and following the principles of green chemistry. L-Arginine and 3,3′-diamino-N-methyldipropylamine were selected as precursors. CND were exhaustively characterized as well as the resulting nanostructured electrodes after CND electrografting. The high stability of CND nanostructured electrode together with the high electrical conductivity and the improvement of the electrochemiluminescent properties from the luminophore [Ru(bpy)3]2+ makes it an excellent electrochemiluminescence detection platform for biosensing assays. The application to biosensors was assessed by combination with an immunoassay based on magnetic nanoparticles, in which anti-glyphosate-IgG coupled magnetic particles (MP-Ab) was used as recognition element of the analyte, glyphosate. The developed ECL immunosensor was successfully applied for the detection of glyphosate in a wide linear range from 28.9 to 200 pg/mL, a sensitivity of 3.38 × 10−3 mL/pg and a detection limit of 8.66 pg/mL. The immunosensor response is stable and reproducible and it has been applied to the determination of glyphosate in tea and soy milk, with results that agree with those provided by an ELISA kit involving the same immunoreagentsThis work has been supported by the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades (CTQ2017-84309-C2-1-R; RED2018-102412-T) and Comunidad Autónoma de Madrid (P2018/NMT-4349 TRANSNANOAVANSENS Program and 2017-T1/BIO-5435 Atracción de Talento Project

We present the experience in the diagnosis and treatment of congenital arteriovenous malformations, discussing the different classifications and analyzing the anatomic-histological types of responsible lesions, their possible etiological factors and symptoms. There are 49 cases that change their clinical appearance after undergoing an “Activation” process that forces the modification of the treatment towards more aggressive therapeutic measures. Local, regional, and general clinical changes, determining the surgical or hemodynamic indication, are described. The most widely used medical treatments, including drugs of choice, radiotherapy, laser or chemical sclerosis, are commented on. Finally, the hemodynamic options (Embolizations) and the radical surgical techniques (often requiring complementary plastic or orthopedic interventions) are discussed. We think that the best option is embolization followed by extensive and radical resection when this is possible

Spain has created a new culture of consumption, trade and representation. Optical fibre spectroscopy sensor for the quantitative determination of industrial textile dyes

    Get PDF
In this paper, an extrinsic optical fibre sensor (OFS) for the quantitative determination of dyes used in the textile industry is presented. The system proposed is based on absorption spectroscopy and multivariate calibration methods to infer the concentration of different textile dyes. The performance of the sensor has been successfully assessed using calibrated dyes, with a very good correlation between the multivariate calibration models and the predicted values. The sensor system here demonstrated could be used to predict the colour of dye mixtures during the dyebath and, therefore, reduce the manufacturing costs

Psychosis and Smoking Cessation: Difficulties in Quitting Associated with Sex and Substance Abuse

    Get PDF
No prospective studies of first psychotic episodes have explored sex differences in smoking cessation. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of sex and substance abuse on smoking cessation during an 8-year follow-up of patients after a first psychotic episode. Logistic regression modeling was used to identify factors associated with smoking cessation by sex. To examine for sex variable interactions, the following two methods were used: 1) for other clinical variables, mixed analyses were calculated; and 2) for use of other substances, logistic regression models were performed only in the substance users. At baseline, 79% of men and 84% of women were current smokers. Lower smoking cessation after 8 years was associated with female sex (odds ratio, OR = 0.30; 95% confidence intervals, CIs = 0.12–0.75) and treatment with typical antipsychotics (OR = 0.30, CIs = 0.10–0.93). In a logistic regression model of alcohol users, those who used alcohol continuously were less likely to stop smoking (adjusted OR = 0.22, CI = 0.05–1.0). Among patients who continued using cannabis, female sex was associated with significant lower smoking cessation (adjusted OR = 0.03, CI = 0.001–0.77). Sex may act as a moderator in smoking cessation after a first psychotic episode. Smoking cessation interventions in these patients should consider sex differences and comorbidity with alcohol and cannabis use

Azure A embedded in carbon dots as NADH electrocatalyst: Development of a glutamate electrochemical biosensor

Carbon nanodots modified with azure A (AA-CDs) have been synthesized and applied as redox mediator of bioelectrocatalytic reactions. A deep characterization of AA-CDs nanomaterial has been carried out, proving the covalent attachment of azure A molecules into the carbon dots nanostructure. Disposable screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCE) have been modified with AA-CDs, through the action of chitosan polymer (Chit-AA-CDs/SPCE). The Chit-AA-CDs/SPCE electrocatalytic activity towards the oxidation of NADH has been proved, obtaining excellent results regarding the low oxidation potential achieved (−0.15 V vs. Ag) and low detection and quantification limits (LOD and LOQ) for NADH, 16 and 53 µM, respectively. The developed electrochemical platform has been applied for the construction of a glutamate biosensor by immobilizing L-glutamic dehydrogenase (GLDH/Chit-AA-CDs/SPCE). The morphology of GLDH/Chit-AA-CDs/SPCE platform was analysed by AFM at each different step of the electrode modification process. The resulting biosensing platform is capable of detect NADH enzymatically generated by GLDH in the presence of glutamate and NAD+. Good analytical parameters were obtained for glutamate analysis using GLDH/Chit-AA-CDs/SPCE, as LOD and LOQ of 3.3 and 11 µM, respectively. The biosensor has been successfully applied to the analysis of food and biological samplesThis work has been supported by the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovacion (PID2020–116728RB-I00) and Comunidad Autonoma de Madrid (SI3/PJI/2021–00341, P2018/NMT-4349 TRANSNANOAVANSENS Program
