Consumption of Scientific Information on Television and Internet
This paper consists of a brief overview of studies related to the consumption of scientific information both on television and on the Internet by the general public, as well as by young people in particular. The preferences of the Internet are clear nowadays, even though television continues to have a place in multiple media. Particular cases are presented to follow a line over time and observe how the consumption of scientific information has been transforming, and how television has adapted to the new forms of production, dissemination, and consumption brought about by innovations, specifically information and communication technologies
The Social Implications of Covid-19 for Nursing Students
Given that the pandemic generated by COVID-19 has caused much unforeseen havoc, this paper shows how higher education students of a nursing degree program at the University of Guadalajara, Mexico, socially confronted this virus, with an approach to their feelings, attitudes, opinions and experiences during the confinement and the actions lived by them. To answer the question, an online questionnaire of mostly open-ended questions was used, which was analyzed through the technique of thematic content analysis. The findings show social representations that, although very local, were very similar to those found in other parts of the world (sadness, fear, anger, confusion, etc.), which is not too surprising given the vertiginous fluidity of the traditional and virtual media
Delving into country risk
Since the Latin American debt crisis of the early 80s, country risk analysis has accounted for a significant part of the work of research and risk management departments of banks, insurance companies, rating agencies, financial market regulators, and multinational companies. Country risk is a very broad concept, that includes sovereign risk, transfer risk, and other risks related with international financial activities. Country risk analysis requires delving into multiple fields, such as economics, finance, politics and history. This paper addresses the concept of country risk, the agents involved, the methods for assessing country risk, the payments crises, risk prevention, the assessment of country risk in the present world and the Spanish country risk regulatio
On rooted directed path graphs
An asteroidal triple is a stable set of three vertices such that each pair is connected by a path avoiding the neighborhood of the third vertex. An asteroidal quadruple is a stable set of four vertices such that any three of them is an asteroidal triple. Two non adjacent vertices are linked by a special connection if either they have a common neighbor or they are the endpoints of two vertex-disjoint chordless paths satisfying certain technical conditions. Cameron, Ho`ang, and L´evˆeque [DIMAP Workshop on Algorithmic Graph Theory, 67–74, Electron. Notes Discrete Math., 32, Elsevier, 2009] proved that if a pair of non adjacent vertices are linked by a special connection then in any directed path model T the subpaths of T corresponding to the vertices forming the special connection have to overlap and they force T to be completely directed in one direction between these vertices. Special connections along with the concept of asteroidal quadruple play an important role to study rooted directed path graphs, which are the intersection graphs of directed paths in a rooted directed tree. In this work we define other special connections; these special connections along with the ones defined by Cameron, Ho`ang, and L´evˆeque are nine in total, and we prove that every one forces T to be completely directed in one direction between these vertices. Also, we give a characterization of rooted directed path graphs whose rooted models cannot be rooted on a bold maximal clique. As a by-product of our result, we build new forbidden induced subgraphs for rooted directed path graphs.Facultad de Ciencias ExactasConsejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnica
End simplicial vertices in path graphs
A graph is a path graph if there is a tree, called UV-model, whose vertices are the maximal cliques of the graph and for each vertex x of the graph the set of maximal cliques that contains it induces a path in the tree. A graph is an interval graph if there is a UV-model that is a path, called an interval model. Gimbel [3] characterized those vertices in interval graphs for which there is some interval model where the interval corresponding to those vertices is an end interval. In this work, we give a characterization of those simplicial vertices x in path graphs for which there is some t/V-model where the maximal clique containing x is a leaf in this UV-model.Facultad de Ciencias Exacta
