    Nonclassical photon pairs generated from a room-temperature atomic ensemble

    We report experimental generation of non-classically correlated photon pairs from collective emission in a room-temperature atomic vapor cell. The nonclassical feature of the emission is demonstrated by observing a violation of the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality. Each pair of correlated photons are separated by a controllable time delay up to 2 microseconds. This experiment demonstrates an important step towards the realization of the Duan-Lukin-Cirac-Zoller scheme for scalable long-distance quantum communication.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure

    Thermodynamic Properties of Spherically-Symmetric, Uniformly-Accelerated Reference Frames

    We aim to study the thermodynamic properties of the spherically symmetric reference frames with uniform acceleration, including the spherically symmetric generalization of Rindler reference frame and the new kind of uniformly accelerated reference frame. We find that, unlike the general studies about the horizon thermodynamics, one cannot obtain the laws of thermodynamics for their horizons in the usual approaches, despite that one can formally define an area entropy (Bekenstein-Hawking entropy). In fact, the common horizon for a set of uniformly accelerated observers is not always exist, even though the Hawking-Unruh temperature is still well-defined. This result indicates that the Hawking-Unruh temperature is only a kinematic effect, to gain the laws of thermodynamics for the horizon, one needs the help of dynamics. Our result is in accordance with those from the various studies about the acoustic black holes.Comment: 8 page

    Snyder's Quantized Space-time and De Sitter Special Relativity

    There is a one-to-one correspondence between Snyder's model in de Sitter space of momenta and the \dS-invariant special relativity. This indicates that physics at the Planck length P\ell_P and the scale R=3/ΛR=3/\Lambda should be dual to each other and there is in-between gravity of local \dS-invariance characterized by a dimensionless coupling constant g=P/R1061g=\ell_P/R\sim 10^{-61}.Comment: 8 page

    Novel CP-violating Effects in B decays from Charged-Higgs in a Two-Higgs Doublet Model for the Top Quark

    We explore charged-Higgs cp-violating effects in a specific type III two-Higgs doublet model which is theoretically attractive as it accommodates the large mass of the top quark in a natural fashion. Two new CP-violating phases arise from the right-handed up quark sector. We consider CP violation in both neutral and charged B decays. Some of the important findings are as follows. 1) Large direct-CP asymmetry is found to be possible for B+- to psi/J K+-. 2) Sizable D-anti-D mixing effect at the percent level is found to be admissible despite the stringent constraints from the data on K-anti-K mixing, b to s gamma and B to tau nu decays. 3) A simple but distinctive CP asymmetry pattern emerges in decays of B_d and B_s mesons, including B_d to psi/J K_S, D+ D-, and B_s to D_s+ D_s-, psi eta/eta^prime, psi/J K_S. 4) The effect of D-anti-D mixing on the CP asymmetry in B+- to D/anti-D K+- and on the extraction of the angle gamma of the unitarity triangle from such decays can be significant.Comment: 32 pages, 5 figures, section V.A revised, version to appear in PR

    On Torsion-free Vacuum Solutions of the Model of de Sitter Gauge Theory of Gravity (II)

    It is shown that all torsion-free vacuum solutions of the model of dS gauge theory of gravity are the vacuum solutions of Einstein field equations with the same positive cosmological constant.     The BcB_c Decays to PP-wave Charmonium by Improved Bethe-Salpeter Approach

    We re-calculate the exclusive semileptonic and nonleptonic decays of BcB_c meson to a PP-wave charmonium in terms of the improved Bethe-Salpeter (B-S) approach, which is developed recently. Here the widths for the exclusive semileptonic and nonleptonic decays, the form factors, and the charged lepton spectrums for the semileptonic decays are precisely calculated. To test the concerned approach by comparing with experimental measurements when the experimental data are available, and to have comparisons with the other approaches the results obtained by the approach and those by some approaches else as well as the original B-S approach, which appeared in literature, are comparatively presented and discussed.Comment: 33 pages, 5 figures, 3 table

    Excitonic Strings in one dimensional organic compounds

    Important questions concern the existence of excitonic strings in organic compounds and their signatures in the photophysics of these systems. A model in terms of Hard Core Bosons is proposed to study this problem in one dimension. Mainly the cases with two and three particles are studied for finite and infinite lattices, where analytical results are accessible. It is shown that if bi-excitonic states exist, three-excitonic and even, n-excitonic strings, at least in a certain range of parameters, will exist. Moreover, the behaviour of the transitions from one exciton to the biexciton is fully clarified. The results are in agreement with exact finite cluster diagonalizations of several model Hamiltonians.Comment: 36 pages, 4 eps figs. to appear in Phys. Rev.

    Direct CP violation in radiative b decays in and beyond the Standard Model

    We consider the partial rate asymmetry in the inclusive decay modes b to s gamma and b to d gamma, concentrating on non-standard models with new charged Higgs interactions. We find that the charged Higgs contribution to the asymmetry for b to s gamma is small in such models due to a universal cancellation mechanism. The asymmetry is therefore difficult to distinguish experimentally from the Standard Model (SM) value, which is also small. The cancellation mechanism is found to be rendered inoperative in supersymmetry due to the presence of chargino loops. Unlike b to s gamma, the rate asymmetry for b to d gamma in Higgs models can be quite different from its SM value, generally ranging from -20% to +20%. Specific model calculations are performed for the Three-Higgs Doublet Model and the ``Top'' Two-Higgs Doublet Model to serve as illustrations. We also offer some suggestions that may be helpful to experimentalists in the detection of the inclusive mode b to d gamma.Comment: RevTex, 24 pages, 6 figures, minor changes, version to appear in PR
