Reduced time-to-market is now the competitive edge that all companies strive for. The usage of container-based virtualization technologies keep the multiple environments where a development team works similar enough, that their work is made easier when devel oping and testing new features, which in turn results in a significantly faster delivery. The nature of this tecnhology also brings numerous advantages when it comes to management, monitoring and maintaining resources, allowing for an ease of adjustment, based on the client needs. Throughout this dissertation is presented an extended base of knowledge about container technologies, especially Docker, as well as what are the basic techniques to use when building an application inside such infrastructure, from the writing of the Dockerfile to the adaptation of the multiple pipelines responsible to deploy the application.Com a rápida evolução da internet nos últimos anos, a prioridade máxima no desenvolvi-mento de software transformou-se de "o quê?" para "quando?". Disponibilizar rapidamente uma aplicação no mercado é agora a vantagem competitiva que todas as empresas ambi-cionam ter. A utilização de tecnologias de virtualização através de containers uniformizam os vários ambientes em que a equipa de desenvolvimento opera, facilitando assim o seu trabalho no que diz respeito à adição e teste de novas funcionalidades, o que resulta numa entrega significativamente mais rápida. A natureza desta tecnologia trás inúmeras vantagens à gestão, monitorização e manutenção de recursos, permitindo facilmente aumentar ou reduzir os mesmos baseado nas necessidades dos seus clientes. Esta tese foca-se no mundo do design de som, centrando-se no desenvolvimento de uma metodologia que engloba várias disciplinas. Explora o papel do design de som na transmissão de mensagens, servindo de interface entre utilizadores e dispositivos. O estudo também investiga os paralelos entre a semiótica e a linguística e o design de som, interpretando como os sons podem atuar como sinais que representam outras entidades, com base em convenções sociais estabelecidas, e como podemos utilizar a linguística como modelo para criar sons não-falados que, tal como a linguagem, transmitem sistematicamente um significado ao utilizador. Através desta análise abrangente, o trabalho pretende contribuir para o campo, propondo uma metodologia interdisciplinar para o design de som, melhorando assim a experiência auditiva em diversos contextos.This thesis delves into the intricate world of sound design, focusing on the development of a methodology that encompasses various disciplines. It explores the role of sound design in conveying messages, serving as an interface between users and devices. The study also investigates the parallels between semiotics and linguistics and sound design, interpreting how sounds can act as signs that represent other entities, based on established social conventions and how we can use linguistics as a model to create non-speech sounds that just like language systematically convey meaning to the user. Through this comprehensive analysis, the work aims to contribute to the field by proposing a cross-disciplinary methodology for sound design, thereby enhancing the auditory experience in diverse contexts

Safety and Effectiveness of Laparoscopic Peritoneal Lavage in Hinchey III Diverticulitis

Introdução: O tratamento da diverticulite por Hinchey III tem sido objeto de investigação ao longo dos anos. A operação tipo Hartmann é amplamente referida como o tratamento padrão. No entanto, esta opção está associada a morbilidade e mortalidade relevantes, o que motivou o surgimento de intervenções alternativas, como a lavagem peritoneal laparoscópica. Objetivo: O objetivo desta revisão é sintetizar a evidência sobre a segurança e a eficácia da lavagem peritoneal laparoscópica no tratamento da diverticulite com peritonite generalizada purulenta em comparação com os procedimentos de ressecção. Materiais e Métodos: A pesquisa bibliográfica foi realizada na base de dados eletrónica Medline da Pubmed. Dos 358 artigos identificados, a nossa seleção criteriosa resultou num total de 27 artigos para revisão. Resultados: No geral, a lavagem laparoscópica revelou baixas taxas de mortalidade sem diferenças significativas entre os procedimentos. Os estudos não randomizados tenderam a mostrar menores taxas de recorrência e morbilidade comparativamente aos últimos ensaios clínicos randomizados, nos grupos submetidos a lavagem, no entanto, nenhuma diferença significativa foi encontrada. Discussão e Conclusão: Nesta revisão, a lavagem peritoneal laparoscópica mostrou-se segura e comparativamente eficaz, embora não superior à ressecção, não alcançando resultados constantes. Nós acreditamos que pode ser aplicada como um procedimento de controlo de danos para tratamento ou como ponte para cirurgia eletiva. Ainda assim, são necessários mais estudos para determinar indicações e fatores para o sucesso da lavagem laparoscópica.Introduction: The management of Hinchey III diverticulitis has been subject to investigation over the years. Hartmann's procedure is widely referred as the standard treatment. However, this option is associated with relevant morbidity and mortality which motivated the arise of alternative interventions such as the laparoscopic peritoneal lavage. Aim: The aim of this review is to synthesize the evidence on the safety and effectiveness of laparoscopic peritoneal lavage in the management of diverticulitis with generalized purulent peritonitis in comparison to resection procedures. Materials and Methods: The bibliographic research was conducted using the electronic database Medline from Pubmed. Of the 358 articles identified, our criterious selection resulted in a total of 27 articles for review. Results: Overall, laparoscopic lavage revealed low mortality rates with no remarkable differences between procedures. The non-randomized studies tended to show lower recurrence and morbidity rates comparatively to the latest RCTs, in the lavage groups, however, no significant differences have been found. Discussion and Conclusion: In this review, laparoscopic peritoneal lavage proved to be safe and comparatively effective, although not superior to resection, reaching mixed results. We believe it can be applied as a damage control operation to treat or as a bridge to elective resection. Still, more studies are needed to determine indications and factors for the success of laparoscopic lavage

Tomando o envelhecimento bem-sucedido como desenvolvimento psicológico: efeito da TOM e da inteligência

Dissertação de mestrado integrado em Psicologia (área de especialização em Psicologia Clínica e da Saúde)Alguns autores têm referido que o envelhecimento bem-sucedido pode ser concetualizado como desenvolvimento psicológico; mas faltam estudos que testem a relação entre esta concetualização e seus preditores. Neste estudo pretendemos contribuir para a clarificação desta questão. Objetivos: (1) avaliar a associação entre medidas de desenvolvimento psicossocial do adulto e uma medida de envelhecimento bem-sucedido tanto em jovens adultos como em adultos idosos; (2) avaliar a associação entre medidas de teoria da mente e de envelhecimento bem-sucedido; (3) tomar como critérios de envelhecimento bem-sucedido a resolução das crises normativas sugeridas por Erikson e avaliar a sua associação com medidas de teoria da mente e de inteligência. Desenho: administração a uma amostra de 44 jovens adultos, estudantes universitários e a uma amostra de 43 adultos idosos, estudantes em universidades seniores, dos seguintes; Instrumentos: (a) Inventário de Expressões Comportamentais de Intimidade; (b) Lista de Comportamentos Generativos; (c) Escala de Integridade do Ego; (d) Questionário SOC; (e) RMET-RAV; (f) Tarefa das Piadas Visuais; (g) Subteste de vocabulário. Resultados: encontramos uma correlação positiva significativa entre a integridade: e o teste de vocabulário, e as Piadas Visuais Mentais, no adulto idoso. Estas, conjuntamente, explicaram 29% da variância na integridade. Conclusão: a teoria da mente e a inteligência cristalizada parecem ser preditores importantes para o envelhecimento bem-sucedido medido pela integridade.Some authors have been arguing that successful aging could be conceptualized as psychological development; however empirical studies to test the mutual relationships between those conceptualizations and their preditors are missing. In this study we aim to contribute to clarify these issues Objectives: (1) assess the association between measures of adult psychosocial development and a measure of successful aging in both young adults and older adults; (2) assess the association between measures of theory of mind and successful aging; (3) take as criteria for successful aging the resolution of crises normative suggested by Erikson and evaluate its association with measures of theory of mind and intelligence. Design: administration to a sample of 44 young adults, college students and a sample of 43 older adults, senior university studentsthe following; Instruments: (a) Inventory of Behavioral Expressions of Intimacy; (b) List of Generative Behaviors; (c) Ego Integrity Scale; (d) SOC Questionnaire; (e) RMET-RAV; (f) Visual Jokes Task; (g) the vocabulary subtest. Results: we found a significant positive correlation between integrity: and vocabulary test, and Mental Visual Jokes in older adult. These, together, explained 29% of variance in integrity. Conclusion: theory of mind and crystallized intelligence appear to be important predictors for successful aging measured by integrity

Sovereign debt crisis in Portugal and Spain

Mestrado em Economia Monetária e FinanceiraOs efeitos da crise financeira de 2007-2008 e da crise das dividas soberanas Europeias espalharam-se pelo sistema financeiro, os bancos e os estados soberanos. Estas crises expuseram as economias mais vulneráveis e causaram mudanças profundas na maneira como o risco é avaliado, incluindo o risco das dividas soberanas, aumentando o spread dos juros dos títulos de divida soberana. Esta dissertação analisa estes eventos, focando-se no caso Português e Espanhol depois de abordar a situação Europeia. A mudança do preço do risco soberano foi averiguada através de, uma análise em painel OLS/2SLS fixed effects num conjunto de países da Zona Euro e uma regressão SUR com Portugal e Espanha, ambas abrangendo o período entre 1999:11 até 2019:6. Os resultados mostram que o preço do risco soberano mudou com a crise e com o discurso "whatever it takes" de Mario Draghi. Nomeadamente, o preço atribuido ao risco de crédito, risco de liquidez e apetitite de risco da Zona Euro pelos mercados aumentou após as crises e diminui a seguir ao discurso de Mario Draghi. Não encontramos provas de mudanças no regime de preços após o discurso no caso Português e Espanhol.The 2007-2008 financial crisis and the European sovereign debt crisis effects rippled through the financial system, banks and sovereign states. The crises exposed the most vulnerable economies and caused profound changes on how risk is assessed, including sovereign risk, raising sovereign bond yields spreads across the Eurozone. This dissertation analyzes these events, focusing on the Portuguese and Spanish case after providing an insight into the Eurozone. The change in the pricing of sovereign risk was assessed by performing an OLS/2SLS fixed effects panel analysis on a pool of Eurozone countries and a SUR regression with Portugal and Spain covering the period 1999:11 until 2019:6. Our main results show that the pricing of sovereign risk changed with the crisis and the "whatever it takes" speech of Mario Draghi. Specifically, markets pricing of the Eurozone credit risk, liquidity risk and the risk appetite increased after the crisis and it relaxed after Mario Draghi´s speech.
