An outbreak of acute gastroenteritis occurred in a nursing home for elderly in Majorca between 4 and 23 February 2008. To know its aetiology and mechanism of transmission a retrospective cohort study was conducted with a fixed cohort including 146 people (96 residents and 50 employees). The data were collected from clinical histories and through a survey by questionnaire. In total 71 cases were identified (53 residents, 18 employees), corresponding to an overall attack rate (AR) of 48.6%

This research is based on the study of wholesale banking clients to determine what factors lead them to make their banking operations through electronic channels. For this purpose our main objective is to identify the factors that increase the use of electronic channels in Scotiabank's wholesale banking customers of Agencia Trujillo. This study is non-experimental, cross-sectional and descriptive, in which to obtain the results of our objective we have applied as a tool a survey of closed questions to our sample of 60 companies of wholesale banking of Scotiabank. Also the authors of this thesis have made direct observation of the platforms offered by Scotiabank to its customers. With the information gathered through these tools, we have structured a conceptual framework from the basic definitions and theoretical models of technology adoption, explaining and comparing the models with the dimensions of our variable. The main responses of the survey to the wholesale banking companies have been able to obtain the information for our general and specific objective, where we have collected information to measure levels of confidence, ease of use, perceived utility and even social influence that determine the Use of electronic channels. This information is extremely important not only for Scotiabank employees to perform operations with customers, but to listen to their needs and what is required to realize their operations in a digital way, without the need to physically approach a banking agency. As indicated above, this thesis can be used to build strategies and revolutionize electronic channels based on the factors they show in the surveys. Finally, in this thesis we offer our recommendations to improve the platforms of electronic channels of Scotiabank, seeking the satisfaction of the customer according to their identified needs

Subzero nonfreezing storage of rat hepatocytes using UW solution and 1,4-butanediol. II- functional testing on rewarming and gene expression of urea cycle enzymes

In the present study we have analyzed the viability and metabolic competence of isolated rat hepatocytes subjected first, to subzero nonfreezing storage (up to 120 h at -4 oC) in modified University of Wisconsin (UW) solution with 8% 1,4-butanediol, and then to a normothermic rewarming step (KHR media, 37 oC, up to 120 min, carbogen atmosphere). Results were compared with hepatocytes stored up to 120 h at 0oC in modified UW solution and with freshly isolated hepatic cells. We have found that only cell suspensions stored in subzero nonfreezing conditions were able to finish the rewarming period with a viability comparable with the control group. Also, we have investigated the enzyme activities and the relative expression at messenger RNAs levels of two of the Urea cycle (UC) enzymes: Carbamyl phosphate synthetase I (CPSI) and ornithine transcarbamylase (OTC), during 60 min of rewarming. Results were compared with the ammonium removal efficiency of the three groups. In conclusion: These data indicated that hepatocytes preserved under cold or subzero conditions up to 120 h followed by 60 min of rewarming, maintain UC enzymes at levels similar to freshly isolated hepatocytes, allowing their use in bioartificial liver devices

CORRESPONDANCES ENTRE SAVOIRS LOCAUX ET SCIENTIFIQUES : PERCEPTIONS DES CHANGEMENTS CLIMATIQUES ET ADAPTATIONS ETUDE EN REGION COTONNIERE DU NORD DU BENIN

N° ISBN - 978-2-7380-1284-5International audienceA survey carried out in four regions of Benin with different climatic profiles have shown producers' perceptions on climatic changes, their consequences and the different adapted measures taken by producers in order to deal with such consequences. Methodologies used comprise group discussions as well as individual interviews with open-ended, semi open and open questionnaires. The present paper is based on research results from 110 family farms of two villages in the northern region. Climate is Sudanese and the production system is cotton based. Recent climate trends perceived by producers are: irregular rainfalls, shortening of cultivation season, occurrence of violent winds and a increase of temperatures. Conventional analyses of climate series highlight significant increases of maxima and minima temperatures, although fail to show significant increases in violent winds as well as significant differences in rainfall distributions. Adaptive measures put to use by producers are many, but scarcely compensate negative effects of climate changes. Farms with little production means remain vulnerable. The study of producers' perceptions of climate changes traduces the need for a new approach in the analysis of climatic variables based on micro spatial and temporal scales
