Local Spin Glass Order in 1D
We study the behavior of one dimensional Kac spin glasses as function of the
interaction range. We verify by Montecarlo numerical simulations the crossover
from local mean field behavior to global paramagnetism. We investigate the
behavior of correlations and find that in the low temperature phase
correlations grow at a faster rate then the interaction range. We completely
characterize the growth of correlations in the vicinity of the mean-field
critical region
Imagined and extended contact experiences and adolescent bystanders’ behavioral intentions in homophobic bullying episodes
Bystanders’ helping interventions in bias-based bullying are rare, although they have the potential to intervene on behalf of the victim and quickly stop the aggression. Two studies tested, experimentally, the impact of adolescents' imagined (Study 1, N = 113, Mage = 16.17) and extended contact experiences (Study 2, N = 174, Mage =15.79) on assertive bystanders’ behavioral intentions in the context of homophobic bullying, an under- researched but highly detrimental behavior that emerges mainly during early adolescence (Espelage et al., 2018). Potential mediators (empathic concern, social contagion concerns, and masculinity/femininity threat) were also examined. Results showed that female younger participants revealed more behavioral intentions to help victims of homophobic bullying, when asked to imagine an interaction with an outgroup member (Study 1). Younger participants revealed less masculinity/femininity threat in the positive extended contact condition, and female participants revealed less empathic concern in the negative extended contact condition (Study 2). Overall, these findings identify specific conditions (e.g., younger female) where indirect contact interventions (i.e., extended and imagined) are likely to have a stronger impact. Age and sex differences found illustrate how adolescents vary in their behavioral intentions, empathic concern and threat; and also highlight the need to further examine age and sex differences regarding responses to homophobic bullying episodes.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Mechanisms for spin suppression and orbital enhancement in M1 transitions: Critical assessment
9 págs.; 3 figs.; 3 tabs.We discuss different nuclear structure properties that may lead to spin suppression in magnetic dipole excitations (as well as in Gamow-Teller transitions). We especially compare the triaxial and the axial asymptotic deformation limits and show that the summed B(M1) strength can be quite different in the two cases. A connection between triaxial deformation and spin suppression is established. It is known, however, that modern Hartree-Fock calculations yield axially symmetric solutions for several nuclei which were previously thought to be triaxial. We show that taking into account the effects of higher shells can lead to an enhanced orbital contribution to M1 excitations without affecting ground-state magnetic moments. © 1989 The American Physical Society. This work was supported by a NATO Collaborative

Equilibrium Times for the Multicanonical Method
This work measures the time to equilibrium for the multicanonical method on
the 2D-Ising system by using a new criterion, proposed here, to find the time
to equilibrium, teq, of any sampling procedure based on a Markov process. Our
new procedure gives the same results that the usual one, based on the
magnetization, for the canonical Metropolis sampling on a 2D-Ising model at
several temperatures. For the multicanonical method we found a power-law
relationship with the system size, L, of teq=0.27(15) L^2.80(13), and with the
number of energy levels to explore, kE, of teq=0.7(13) kE^1.40(11), in perfect
agreement with the result just above. In addition, some kind of critical
slowing down was observed around the critical energy. Our new procedure is
completely general, and can be applied to any sampling method based on a Markov
process.Comment: 7 pages, 5 eps figures, to be published in Int. J. Mod. Phys.
New convolutions weighted by Hermite functions and their applications
We introduce eight new convolutions weighted by multi-dimensional Hermite functions, prove two Young-type inequalities, and exhibit their applications in different subjects. One application consists in the study of the solvability of a very general class of integral equations whose kernel depends on four different functions. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the unique solvability of such integral equations are here obtained.publishe
On integral operators and equations generated by cosine and sine Fourier transforms
In this paper, we study some properties of a class of integral operators that depends on the cosine and sine Fourier transforms. In particular, we will exhibit properties related with their invertibility, the spectrum, Parseval type identities and involutions. Moreover, a new convolution will be proposed and consequent integral equations will be also studied in detail. Namely, we will characterize the solvability of two integral equations which are associated with the integral operator under study. Moreover, under appropriate conditions, the unique solutions of those two equations are also obtained in a constructive way.publishe
