    Robust Average Formation Tracking for Multi-Agent Systems With Multiple Leaders

    In this paper, the formation tracking problem of the multi-agent system under disturbances and unmodeled uncertainties has been studied. An identifier-based robust control algorithm using the neighboring relative information has been proposed to ensure the followers to maintain a given, and time-varying formation and track the average state of the leaders at the same time. Some sufficient conditions for the second-order multi-agent system with multiple leaders in the presence of disturbances and unmodeled uncertainties have been proposed based on the graph theory and the Lyapunov method. Numerical simulations are provided to testify the validity of the algorithm

    Evolution of the strange-metal scattering in momentum space of electron-doped La2xCexCuO4{\rm La}_{2-x}{\rm Ce}_x{\rm CuO}_4

    The linear-in-temperature resistivity is one of the important mysteries in the strange metal state of high-temperature cuprate superconductors. To uncover this anomalous property, the energy-momentum-dependent imaginary part of the self-energy Im Σ(k,ω){\rm \Sigma}(k, \omega) holds the key information. Here we perform systematic doping, momentum, and temperature-dependent angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements of electron-doped cuprate La2xCexCuO4{\rm La}_{2-x}{\rm Ce}_x{\rm CuO}_4 and extract the evolution of the strange metal scattering in momentum space. At low doping levels and low temperatures, Im Σω{\rm\Sigma} \propto \omega dependence dominates the whole momentum space. For high doping levels and high temperatures, Im Σω2{\rm\Sigma} \propto \omega^2 shows up, starting from the antinodal region. By comparing with the hole-doped cuprates La2xSrxCuO4{\rm La}_{2-x}{\rm Sr}_x{\rm CuO}_4 and Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8{\rm Bi}_2{\rm Sr}_2{\rm CaCu}_2{\rm O}_8, we find a dichotomy of the scattering rate exists along the nodal and antinodal direction, which is ubiquitous in the cuprate family.     Characteristic gene expression profiles in the progression from liver cirrhosis to carcinoma induced by diethylnitrosamine in a rat model

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Liver cancr is a heterogeneous disease in terms of etiology, biologic and clinical behavior. Very little is known about how many genes concur at the molecular level of tumor development, progression and aggressiveness. To explore the key genes involved in the development of liver cancer, we established a rat model induced by diethylnitrosamine to investigate the gene expression profiles of liver tissues during the transition to cirrhosis and carcinoma.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>A rat model of liver cancer induced by diethylnitrosamine was established. The cirrhotic tissue, the dysplasia nodules, the early cancerous nodules and the cancerous nodules from the rats with lung metastasis were chosen to compare with liver tissue of normal rats to investigate the differential expression genes between them. Affymetrix GeneChip Rat 230 2.0 arrays were used throughout. The real-time quantity PCR was used to verify the expression of some differential expression genes in tissues.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The pathological changes that occurred in the livers of diethylnitrosamine-treated rats included non-specific injury, fibrosis and cirrhosis, dysplastic nodules, early cancerous nodules and metastasis. There are 349 upregulated and 345 downregulated genes sharing among the above chosen tissues when compared with liver tissue of normal rats. The deregulated genes play various roles in diverse processes such as metabolism, transport, cell proliferation, apoptosis, cell adhesion, angiogenesis and so on. Among which, 41 upregulated and 27 downregulated genes are associated with inflammatory response, immune response and oxidative stress. Twenty-four genes associated with glutathione metabolism majorly participating oxidative stress were deregulated in the development of liver cancer. There were 19 members belong to CYP450 family downregulated, except CYP2C40 upregulated.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>In this study, we provide the global gene expression profiles during the development and progression of liver cancer in rats. The data obtained from the gene expression profiles will allow us to acquire insights into the molecular mechanisms of hepatocarcinogenesis and identify specific genes (or gene products) that can be used for early molecular diagnosis, risk analysis, prognosis prediction, and development of new therapies.</p

    Exploring combinations of different color and facial expression stimuli for gaze-independent BCIs

    Background: Some studies have proven that a conventional visual brain computer interface (BCI) based on overt attention cannot be used effectively when eye movement control is not possible. To solve this problem, a novel visual-based BCI system based on covert attention and feature attention has been proposed and was called the gaze-independent BCI. Color and shape difference between stimuli and backgrounds have generally been used in examples of gaze-independent BCIs. Recently, a new paradigm based on facial expression changes has been presented, and obtained high performance. However, some facial expressions were so similar that users couldn't tell them apart, especially when they were presented at the same position in a rapid serial visual presentation (RSVP) paradigm. Consequently, the performance of the BCI is reduced. New Method: In this paper, we combined facial expressions and colors to optimize the stimuli presentation in the gaze-independent BCI. This optimized paradigm was called the colored dummy face pattern. It is suggested that different colors and facial expressions could help users to locate the target and evoke larger event-related potentials (ERPs). In order to evaluate the performance of this new paradigm, two other paradigms were presented, called the gray dummy face pattern and the colored ball pattern. Comparison with Existing Method(s): The key point that determined the value of the colored dummy faces stimuli in BCI systems was whether the dummy face stimuli could obtain higher performance than gray faces or colored balls stimuli. Ten healthy participants (seven male, aged 21–26 years, mean 24.5 ± 1.25) participated in our experiment. Online and offline results of four different paradigms were obtained and comparatively analyzed. Results: The results showed that the colored dummy face pattern could evoke higher P300 and N400 ERP amplitudes, compared with the gray dummy face pattern and the colored ball pattern. Online results showed that the colored dummy face pattern had a significant advantage in terms of classification accuracy (p < 0.05) and information transfer rate (p < 0.05) compared to the other two patterns. Conclusions: The stimuli used in the colored dummy face paradigm combined color and facial expressions. This had a significant advantage in terms of the evoked P300 and N400 amplitudes and resulted in high classification accuracies and information transfer rates.     Anatomical Outcome of Vitreoretinal Surgery Using Temporary Keratoprosthesis and Replacement of the Trephined Corneal Button for Severe Open Globe Injuries: One-Year Result

    In this case series of 74 patients with coexisting vitreoretinal injury and severe corneal opacification, after temporary keratoprosthesis (TKP) assisted pars plana vitrectomy (PPV), an allograft corneal transplant was not performed at the same time; instead, the patient’s trephined corneal button was sutured back. One year after the surgery, if intraocular pressure of the injured eyes was above 8 mmHg, removing silicone oil was attempted, and penetrating keratoplasty could be performed. Finally, 10 eyes (13.5%) were enucleated due to atrophia bulbi; 46 eyes (62.2%) were silicone-oil sustained; 15 eyes (20.3%) were anatomically restored; and 3 eyes (4.0%) experienced recurrent retinal detachment. These figures only demonstrate a small percentage of the injured eyes in our series, which have PKP indications. It is a practical option to suture back the patient’s trephined cornea following a TKP assisted PPV; keratoplasty was reserved for selected cases
