Dirac Equation Studies in the Tunnelling Energy Zone
We investigate the tunnelling zone V0 < E < V0+m for a one-dimensional
potential within the Dirac equation. We find the appearance of superluminal

Potential Scattering in Dirac Field Theory
We develop the potential scattering of a spinor within the context of
perturbation field theory. As an application, we reproduce, up to second order
in the potential, the diffusion results for a potential barrier of quantum
mechanics. An immediate consequence is a simple generalization to arbitrary
potential forms, a feature not possible in quantum mechanics.Comment: 7 page
Spin fluctuations in nearly magnetic metals from ab-initio dynamical spin susceptibility calculations:application to Pd and Cr95V5
We describe our theoretical formalism and computational scheme for making
ab-initio calculations of the dynamic paramagnetic spin susceptibilities of
metals and alloys at finite temperatures. Its basis is Time-Dependent Density
Functional Theory within an electronic multiple scattering, imaginary time
Green function formalism. Results receive a natural interpretation in terms of
overdamped oscillator systems making them suitable for incorporation into spin
fluctuation theories. For illustration we apply our method to the nearly
ferromagnetic metal Pd and the nearly antiferromagnetic chromium alloy Cr95V5.
We compare and contrast the spin dynamics of these two metals and in each case
identify those fluctuations with relaxation times much longer than typical

A numerical study of multi-soliton configurations in a doped antiferromagnetic Mott insulator
We evaluate from first principles the self-consistent Hartree-Fock energies
for multi-soliton configurations in a doped, spin-1/2, antiferromagnetic Mott
insulator on a two-dimensional square lattice. We find that nearest-neighbor
Coulomb repulsion stabilizes a regime of charged meron-antimeron vortex soliton
pairs over a region of doping from 0.05 to 0.4 holes per site for intermediate
coupling 3 < U/t <8. This stabilization is mediated through the generation of
``spin-flux'' in the mean-field antiferromagnetic (AFM) background. Holes
cloaked by a meron-vortex in the spin-flux AFM background are charged bosons.
Our static Hartree-Fock calculations provide an upper bound on the energy of a
finite density of charged vortices. This upper bound is lower than the energy
of the corresponding charged stripe configurations. A finite density of charge
carrying vortices is shown to produce a large number of unoccupied electronic
levels in the Mott-Hubbard charge transfer gap. These levels lead to
significant band tailing and a broad mid-infrared band in the optical
absorption spectrum as observed experimentally. At very low doping (below 0.05)
the doping charges create extremely tightly bound meron-antimeron pairs or even
isolated conventional spin-polarons, whereas for very high doping (above 0.4)
the spin background itself becomes unstable to formation of a conventional
Fermi liquid and the spin-flux mean-field is energetically unfavorable. Our
results point to the predominance of a quantum liquid of charged, bosonic,
vortex solitons at intermediate coupling and intermediate doping

An Agent-Based Model for Integrated Contagion and Regulation of Negative Mood
Through social interaction, the mood of a person can affect the mood of others. The speed and intensity of such mood contagion can differ, depending on the persons and the type and intensity of their interactions. Especially in close relationships the negative mood of a depressed person can have a serious impact on the moods of the ones close to him or her.For short time durations, contagion may be the main factor determining the mood of a person; however, for longer time durations individuals also apply regulation mechanisms to compensate for too strong deviations of their mood. Computational contagion models usually do not take into account such regulation.This paper introduces an agent-based model that simulates the spread of negative mood amongst a group of agents in a social network, but at the same time integrates elements from Gross’ emotion regulation theory, as the individuals’ efforts to avoid a negative mood.Simulation experiments under different group settings pointed out that the model is able to produce realistic results, that explain negative mood contagion and emotion regulation behaviours posed in the literatur
Preclinical Testing of Nalfurafine as an Opioid-sparing Adjuvant that Potentiates Analgesia by the Mu Opioid Receptor-targeting Agonist Morphine
Mu opioid receptor (MOR)-targeting analgesics are efficacious pain treatments, but notorious for their abuse potential. In preclinical animal models, coadministration of traditional kappa opioid receptor (KOR)-targeting agonists with MOR-targeting analgesics can decrease reward and potentiate analgesia. However, traditional KOR-targeting agonists are well known for inducing antitherapeutic side effects (psychotomimesis, depression, anxiety, dysphoria). Recent data suggest that some functionally selective, or biased, KOR-targeting agonists might retain the therapeutic effects of KOR activation without inducing undesirable side effects. Nalfurafine, used safely in Japan since 2009 for uremic pruritus, is one such functionally selective KOR-targeting agonist. Here, we quantify the bias of nalfurafine and several other KOR agonists relative to an unbiased reference standard (U50,488) and show that nalfurafine and EOM-salvinorin-B demonstrate marked G protein-signaling bias. While nalfurafine (0.015 mg/kg) and EOM-salvinorin-B (1 mg/kg) produced spinal antinociception equivalent to 5 mg/kg U50,488, only nalfurafine significantly enhanced the supraspinal analgesic effect of 5 mg/kg morphine. In addition, 0.015 mg/kg nalfurafine did not produce significant conditioned place aversion, yet retained the ability to reduce morphine-induced conditioned place preference in C57BL/6J mice. Nalfurafine and EOM-salvinorin-B each produced robust inhibition of both spontaneous and morphine-stimulated locomotor behavior, suggesting a persistence of sedative effects when coadministered with morphine. Taken together, these findings suggest that nalfurafine produces analgesic augmentation, while also reducing opioid-induced reward with less risk of dysphoria. Thus, adjuvant administration of G protein-biased KOR agonists like nalfurafine may be beneficial in enhancing the therapeutic potential of MOR-targeting analgesics, such as morphine
Development and evaluations of the ancestry informative markers of the VISAGE Enhanced Tool for Appearance and Ancestry
The VISAGE Enhanced Tool for Appearance and Ancestry (ET) has been designed to combine markers for the prediction of bio-geographical ancestry plus a range of externally visible characteristics into a single massively parallel sequencing (MPS) assay. We describe the development of the ancestry panel markers used in ET, and the enhanced analyses they provide compared to previous MPS-based forensic ancestry assays. Measurement of the Hadronic Photon Structure Function F_2^gamma at LEP2
The hadronic structure function of the photon F_2^gamma is measured as a
function of Bjorken x and of the factorisation scale Q^2 using data taken by
the OPAL detector at LEP. Previous OPAL measurements of the x dependence of
F_2^gamma are extended to an average Q^2 of 767 GeV^2. The Q^2 evolution of
F_2^gamma is studied for average Q^2 between 11.9 and 1051 GeV^2. As predicted
by QCD, the data show positive scaling violations in F_2^gamma. Several
parameterisations of F_2^gamma are in agreement with the measurements whereas

A measurement of the tau mass and the first CPT test with tau leptons
We measure the mass of the tau lepton to be 1775.1+-1.6(stat)+-1.0(syst.) MeV
using tau pairs from Z0 decays. To test CPT invariance we compare the masses of
the positively and negatively charged tau leptons. The relative mass difference
is found to be smaller than 3.0 10^-3 at the 90% confidence level.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures, Submitted to Phys. Letts.
