On computation of the first Baues--Wirsching cohomology of a freely-generated small category
The Baues--Wirsching cohomology is one of the cohomologies of a small
category. Our aim is to describe the first Baues--Wirsching cohomology of the
small category generated by a finite quiver freely. We consider the case where
the coefficient is a natural system obtained by the composition of a functor
and the target functor. We give an algorithm to obtain generators of the vector
space of inner derivations. It is known that there exists a surjection from the
vector space of derivations of the small category to the first Baues--Wirsching
cohomology whose kernel is the vector space of inner derivations.Comment: 11 page
Exactly solvable model of superstring in Ramond-Ramond plane wave background
We describe in detail the solution of type IIB superstring theory in the
maximally supersymmetric plane-wave background with constant null Ramond-Ramond
5-form field strength. The corresponding light-cone Green-Schwarz action found
in hep-th/0112044 is quadratic in both bosonic and fermionic coordinates. We
find the spectrum of the light-cone Hamiltonian and the string representation
of the supersymmetry algebra. The superstring Hamiltonian has a
``harmonic-oscillator'' form in both the string-oscillator and the zero-mode
parts and thus has discrete spectrum in all 8 transverse directions. We analyze
the structure of the zero-mode sector of the theory, establishing the precise
correspondence between the lowest-lying ``massless'' string states and the type
IIB supergravity fluctuation modes in the plane-wave background. The zero-mode
spectrum has certain similarity to the supergravity spectrum in AdS_5 x S^5 of
which the plane-wave background is a special limit. We also compare the
plane-wave string spectrum with expected form of the light-cone gauge spectrum

JAK2V617F promotes replication fork stalling with disease-restricted impairment of the intra-S checkpoint response
Cancers result from the accumulation of genetic lesions, but the cellular consequences of driver mutations remain unclear, especially during the earliest stages of malignancy. The V617F mutation in the JAK2 non-receptor tyrosine kinase (JAK2V617F) is present as an early somatic event in most patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs), and the study of these chronic myeloid malignancies provides an experimentally tractable approach to understanding early tumorigenesis. Introduction of exogenous JAK2V617F impairs replication fork progression and is associated with activation of the intra-S checkpoint, with both effects mediated by phosphatidylinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) signaling. Analysis of clonally derived JAK2V617F-positive erythroblasts from MPN patients also demonstrated impaired replication fork progression accompanied by increased levels of replication protein A (RPA)-containing foci. However, the associated intra-S checkpoint response was impaired in erythroblasts from polycythemia vera (PV) patients, but not in those from essential thrombocythemia (ET) patients. Moreover, inhibition of p53 in PV erythroblasts resulted in more gamma-H2Ax (γ-H2Ax)–marked double-stranded breaks compared with in like-treated ET erythroblasts, suggesting the defective intra-S checkpoint function seen in PV increases DNA damage in the context of attenuated p53 signaling. These results demonstrate oncogene-induced impairment of replication fork progression in primary cells from MPN patients, reveal unexpected disease-restricted differences in activation of the intra-S checkpoint, and have potential implications for the clonal evolution of malignancies
Sinh-Gordon, Cosh-Gordon and Liouville Equations for Strings and Multi-Strings in Constant Curvature Spacetimes
We find that the fundamental quadratic form of classical string propagation
in dimensional constant curvature spacetimes solves the Sinh-Gordon
equation, the Cosh-Gordon equation or the Liouville equation. We show that in
both de Sitter and anti de Sitter spacetimes (as well as in the black
hole anti de Sitter spacetime), {\it all} three equations must be included to
cover the generic string dynamics. The generic properties of the string
dynamics are directly extracted from the properties of these three equations
and their associated potentials (irrespective of any solution). These results
complete and generalize earlier discussions on this topic (until now, only the
Sinh-Gordon sector in de Sitter spacetime was known). We also construct new
classes of multi-string solutions, in terms of elliptic functions, to all three
equations in both de Sitter and anti de Sitter spacetimes. Our results can be
straightforwardly generalized to constant curvature spacetimes of arbitrary
dimension, by replacing the Sinh-Gordon equation, the Cosh-Gordon equation and

Excited B mesons from the lattice
We determine the energies of the excited states of a heavy-light meson
, with a static heavy quark and light quark with mass approximately
that of the strange quark from both quenched lattices and with dynamical
fermions. We are able to explore the energies of orbital excitations up to L=3,
the spin-orbit splitting up to L=2 and the first radial excitation. These mesons will be very narrow if their mass is less than 5775 MeV -- the
threshold. We investigate this in detail and present evidence that the
scalar meson (L=1) will be very narrow and that as many as 6
excited states will have energies close to the threshold and should also

A new mode of contrast in biological second harmonic generation microscopy
Enhanced image contrast in biological second harmonic imaging microscopy (SHIM) has previously been reported via quantitative assessments of forward- to epi-generated signal intensity ratio and by polarization analysis. Here we demonstrate a new form of contrast: the material-specific, wavelength-dependence of epi-generated second harmonic generation (SHG) excitation efficiency, and discriminate collagen and myosin by ratiometric epi-generated SHG images at 920 nm and 860 nm. Collagen shows increased SHG intensity at 920 nm, while little difference is detected between the two for myosin; allowing SHIM to characterize different SHG-generating components within a complex biological sample. We propose that momentum-space mapping of the second-order non-linear structure factor is the source of this contrast and develop a model for the forward and epi-generated SHG wavelength-dependence. Our model demonstrates that even very small changes in the assumed material fibrillar structure can produce large changes in the wavelength-dependency of epi-generated SHG. However, in the case of forward SHG, although the same changes impact upon absolute intensity at a given wavelength, they have very little effect on wavelength-dependency beyond the expected monotonic fall. We also propose that this difference between forward and epi-generated SHG provides an explanation for many of the wavelength-dependency discrepancies in the published literature
Rational bidding using reinforcement learning: an application in automated resource allocation
The application of autonomous agents by the provisioning and usage of computational resources is an attractive research field. Various methods and technologies in the area of artificial intelligence, statistics and economics are playing together to achieve i) autonomic resource provisioning and usage of computational resources, to invent ii) competitive bidding strategies for widely used market mechanisms and to iii) incentivize consumers and providers to use such market-based systems.
The contributions of the paper are threefold. First, we present a framework for supporting consumers and providers in technical and economic preference elicitation and the generation of bids. Secondly, we introduce a consumer-side reinforcement learning bidding strategy which enables rational behavior by the generation and selection of bids. Thirdly, we evaluate and compare this bidding strategy against a truth-telling bidding strategy for two kinds of market mechanisms – one centralized and one decentralized
Introduction to M Theory and AdS/CFT Duality
An introductory survey of some of the developments that have taken place in
superstring theory in the past few years is presented. The main focus is on
three particular dualities. The first one is the appearance of an 11th
dimension in the strong coupling limit of the type IIA theory, which give rise
to M theory. The second one is the duality between the type IIB theory
compactified on a circle and M theory on a two-torus. The final topic is an
introduction to the recently proposed duality between superstring theory or M
theory on certain anti de Sitter space backgrounds and conformally invariant

Q-Strategy: A Bidding Strategy for Market-Based Allocation of Grid Services
The application of autonomous agents by the provisioning and usage of computational services is an attractive research field. Various methods and technologies in the area of artificial intelligence, statistics and economics are playing together to achieve i) autonomic service provisioning and usage of Grid services, to invent ii) competitive bidding strategies for widely used market mechanisms and to iii) incentivize consumers and providers to use such market-based systems.
The contributions of the paper are threefold. First, we present a bidding agent framework for implementing artificial bidding agents, supporting consumers and providers in technical and economic preference elicitation as well as automated bid generation by the requesting and provisioning of Grid services. Secondly, we introduce a novel consumer-side bidding strategy, which enables a goal-oriented and strategic behavior by the generation and submission of consumer service requests and selection of provider offers. Thirdly, we evaluate and compare the Q-strategy, implemented within the presented framework, against the Truth-Telling bidding strategy in three mechanisms – a centralized CDA, a decentralized on-line machine scheduling and a FIFO-scheduling mechanisms
