The Role of Home and Parents
This response comes to the controversial article of the June issue, Should Women Combine Homemaking and Professions? and is a part of an address given by Miss Zorbaugh at the Iowa State Conference on the Home and Child held at Iowa City, June 24, 1927
Political Satire in the Collection of Kaiyoppam
Poetry penetrates human minds and deepens the light of life. In poetry of this nature, poets use a variety of techniques to convey their thoughts to others. Since the satire in them first refers to a literary genre, then the strategy has become systematic. Poet Puviarasu often used this element in his poems and was one of the leading poets of the Vanambadi movement who inspired the development of modern poetry. Diverse, he expresses the misfortunes of today's society in a simple way through his poetry. In his poems, we can see his loud thinking, anger and determination to oppose the ruling class. One who embodies the political and social tragedies in his poems with an satire. Although the regime and power have threatened the people, Tamil poets and thinkers have never accepted the powers of the state as such. Tamil poets are those who think that governance is better only if there is a norm for politics. Political honesty and morality are like two sides of the same coin. But today he is not only pointing out the geopolitical politicians, who have witnessed aspiring leaders fighting for the chair in assembly and parliaments, but also pointing out their rhetoric, actions, powers, and political conduct in their poems and expressing the tone of satire. The purpose of this article is in his long poem, he satire all the possible actions that take place in political systems and powers
Electromyographic analyses of the erector spinae muscles during golf swings using four different clubs
The purpose of this study was to compare the electromyography (EMG) patterns of the thoracic and lumbar regions of the erector spinae (ES) muscle during the golf swing whilst using four different golf clubs. Fifteen right-handed male golfers performed a total of twenty swings in random order using the driver, 4-iron, 7-iron and pitching-wedge. Surface EMG was recorded from the lead and trail sides of the thoracic and lumbar regions of the ES muscle (T8, L1 and L5 lateral to the spinous-process). Three-dimensional high-speed video analysis was used to identify the backswing, forward swing, acceleration, early and late follow-through phases of the golf swing. No significant differences in muscle-activation levels from the lead and trail sides of the thoracic and lumbar regions of the ES muscle were displayed between the driver, 4-iron, 7-iron and pitching-wedge (P > 0.05). The highest mean thoracic and lumbar ES muscle-activation levels were displayed in the forward swing (67–99% MVC) and acceleration (83–106% MVC) phases of the swing for all clubs tested. The findings from this study show that there were no significant statistical differences between the driver, 4-iron, 7-iron and pitching-wedge when examining muscle activity from the thoracic and lumbar regions of the ES muscle
Commercial golf glove effects on golf performance and forearm muscle activity
The study aimed to determine whether or not commercial golf gloves influence performance variables and forearm muscle activity during golf play. Fifteen golfers participated in the laboratory based study, each performing 8 golf swings with a Driver and 7-iron whilst wearing a glove and 8 without wearing the glove. Club head speed, ball speed and absolute carry distance performance variables were calculated. Surface electromyography was recorded from the flexor digitorum superficialis and extensor carpi radialis brevis on both forearm muscles. Club head speed, ball speed and absolute carry distance was significantly higher when using the Driver with the glove in comparison to the Driver without the glove (p < 0.05). No significant differences were evident when using the 7-iron and no significant differences were displayed in muscle activity in either of the conditions. Findings from this study suggest that driving performance is improved when wearing a glove
Communication practices of the Karen in Sheffield: Seeking to navigate their three zones of displacement
This study investigates communication practices of a newly arrived Karen refugee community in the UK who, as well as establishing themselves in a strange country, seek to keep in touch, campaign politically and maintain identity collectively through communication and contact with their global diaspora. We look at the technologies, motivations and inhibiting factors applying to the communication by adult members of this community and construct the idea of three zones of displacement which help to model the particular contexts, challenges and methods of their communication. We find that overall, they are using a wide range of internet-based technologies, with the aim to 'keep-in-touch' (personal contacts) and to 'spread the word' (political communication). This also includes archaic, traditional and hybrid methods to achieve extended communication with contacts in other 'zones'. We also identify the importance of the notion of ‘village’ as metaphor and entity in their conceptualisation of diasporic and local community cohesion. We identify the key inhibitors to their communication as cost, education, literacy and age. Finally, we speculate on the uncertain outcomes of their approach to digital media in achieving their political aims

Size-Dependent Deposition, Translocation, and Microglial Activation of Inhaled Silver Nanoparticles in the Rodent Nose and Brain.
BackgroundSilver nanoparticles (AgNP) are present in personal, commercial, and industrial products, which are often aerosolized. Current understanding of the deposition, translocation, and health-related impacts of AgNP inhalation is limited.ObjectivesWe determined a) the deposition and retention of inhaled Ag in the nasal cavity from nose-only exposure; b) the timing for Ag translocation to and retention/clearance in the olfactory bulb (OB); and c) whether the presence of Ag in the OB affects microglial activity.MethodsMale Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed nose-only to citrate-buffered 20- or 110-nm AgNP (C20 or C110, respectively) or citrate buffer alone for 6 hr. The nasal cavity and OB were examined for the presence of Ag and for biological responses up to 56 days post-exposure (8 weeks).ResultsThe highest nasal Ag deposition was observed on Day 0 for both AgNP sizes. Inhalation of aerosolized C20 resulted in rapid translocation of Ag to the OB and in microglial activation at Days 0, 1, and 7. In contrast, inhalation of C110 resulted in a gradual but progressive transport of Ag to and retention in the OB, with a trend for microglial activation to variably be above control.ConclusionsThe results of this study show that after rats experienced a 6-hr inhalation exposure to 20- and 110-nm AgNP at a single point in time, Ag deposition in the nose, the rate of translocation to the brain, and subsequent microglial activation in the OB differed depending on AgNP size and time since exposure. Impact of the Moral Recovery Program for Drug Surrenderees in Cavite
The main objective of the study is to evaluate the impact of the moral-recovery program done by different religious organizations in cooperation with the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, Local Governments Units, and Non-Government Agencies and various business sectors. A total of 131 drug surenderees from Cavite, Philippines were purposively selected to participate in the study. One hundred fourteen (87%) respondents are male and 17 (13%) are female. Survey questionnaires and interviews were used to gather the data to find out how the program made an impact to the morality of the surrenderees. Frequency and percentages were used for statistical analysis. Results showed that after attending the 3-month moral recovery program, 111 (85%) of the drug surenderees resolved to stop using drugs, 64 (49%) committed to attend church regularly, 98 (75%) have a better relationship with God, and 23 (18%) have a healthier perspective in life and became more responsible members of their own families. The respondents, who were influenced by their friends to use drugs, after attending the 12-session moral recovery program that lasted for three months, changed their lives dramatically from turning to drugs to turning to God in solving their problems. This proved that the program helped the drug surenderees to improve their lives and relationship with God and with other people. Since this program is mandated by the government, it is recommended that further studies on the impact of the moral recovery program in other areas in the Philippines be done
