Market trends of seafood products under international constraints: contractualisation, marketing strategies and new behaviours

In the developed countries, especially in the European Union, demand for seafood products has increased very quickly (faster than that of meat products). This growth may be explained by the recurring problems of animal health impacts on other products (bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), avian influenza (bird flu)...) and to the impacts of the environmental problems (dioxins...) which are less prevalent in seafood products. In addition, seafood products profit from an increasingly positive image positioned on the axis of nutrition- health. The enhancement of the markets is influenced more and more by the retailing channel (hyper and supermarkets). Indeed, France profits from being a pioneer in retailing, (more than 70% of the seafood market is through retailers) who can be seen as axis of development with other sectors and in other countries. To satisfy the demand, the national platforms of the retailers rely upon imported products to supplement their supplies from local fishermen and fish farmers. These local actors must adapt to the constraints imposed by the platforms, which constitutes a major innovation in the contractual relationship with the hyper and supermarket stores. The international context weighs heavily in the determination of these constraints. This paper deals with this framework of the new forms of contractualisation between the actors imposed by the evolution of the international context. It also describes the implications in term of setting in market and marketing strategies. Lastly, it takes into account the emergence characteristics of new food buying behaviours.seafood products, contractualisation, price, sale promotions, marketing, behaviours, Marketing,

Interaction of Cutibacterium (formerly Propionibacterium) acnes with bone cells: a step toward understanding bone and joint infection development

Cutibacterium acnes (formerly Propionibacterium acnes) is recognized as a pathogen in foreign-body infections (arthroplasty or spinal instrumentation). To date, the direct impact of C. acnes on bone cells has never been explored. The clade of 11 C. acnes clinical isolates was determined by MLST. Human osteoblasts and osteoclasts were infected by live C. acnes. The whole genome sequence of six isolates of this collection was analyzed. CC36 C. acnes strains were significantly less internalized by osteoblasts and osteoclasts than CC18 and CC28 C. acnes strains (p ≤ 0.05). The CC18 C. acnes ATCC6919 isolate could survive intracellularly for at least 96 hours. C. acnes significantly decreased the resorption ability of osteoclasts with a major impact by the CC36 strain (p ≤ 0.05). Genome analysis revealed 27 genes possibly linked to these phenotypic behaviors. We showed a direct impact of C. acnes on bone cells, providing new explanations about the development of C. acnes foreign-body infections

Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics published by Wiley Periodicals LLC on behalf of American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and TherapeuticsThis study aimed to analyze associations between genetic variants and the occurrence of clinical outcomes in dabigatran, apixaban, and rivaroxaban users. This was a retrospective real-world study linking genotype data of three Finnish biobanks with national register data on drug dispensations and healthcare encounters. We investigated several single-nucleotide variants (SNVs) in the ABCG2, ABCB1, CES1, and CYP3A5 genes potentially associated with bleeding or thromboembolic events in direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) users based on earlier research. We used Cox regression models to compare the incidence of clinical outcomes between carriers and noncarriers of the SNVs or haplotypes. In total, 1,806 patients on apixaban, dabigatran, or rivaroxaban were studied. The ABCB1 c.3435C>T (p.Ile1145=, rs1045642) SNV (hazard ratio (HR) 0.42, 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.18-0.98, P = 0.044) and 1236T-2677T-3435T (rs1128503-rs2032582-rs1045642) haplotype (HR 0.44, 95% CI, 0.20-0.95, P = 0.036) were associated with a reduced risk for thromboembolic outcomes, and the 1236C-2677G-3435C (HR 2.55, 95% CI, 1.03-6.36, P = 0.044) and 1236T-2677G-3435C (HR 5.88, 95% CI, 2.35-14.72, P A (rs4148738) SNV associated with a lower risk for bleeding events (HR 0.37, 95% CI, 0.16-0.89, P = 0.025) in apixaban users. ABCB1 variants are potential factors affecting thromboembolic events in rivaroxaban users and bleeding events in apixaban users. Studies with larger numbers of patients are warranted for comprehensive assessment of the pharmacogenetic associations of DOACs and their relevance for clinical practice.Peer reviewe

Enhanced tumor regression and tissue repair when zoledronic acid is combined with ifosfamide in rat osteosarcoma

The efficacy of zoledronic acid (ZOL), with or without the anticancer drug ifosfamide (IFO), was tested on primary bone tumor growth using a rat-transplantable model of osteosarcoma. The effects on bone remodeling and tumor growth were analyzed by radiography, micro-computed tomography (micro-CT), and histological staining. The in vitro effects of ZOL were studied by proliferation, apoptosis, and cell cycle analyses on the osteosarcoma cells OSRGA compared to rat primary osteoblasts. Treatment with ZOL was effective in preventing the formation of osteolytic lesions that developed in bone sites and in reducing the local tumor growth, as compared to the untreated rats. The combination of ZOL and IFO was more effective than each agent alone in preventing tumor recurrence, improving tissue repair, and increasing bone formation as revealed by the analysis of trabecular architecture. In vitro studies demonstrated that ZOL was more potent against the OSRGA cell line than osteoblasts (with a half-maximal inhibitory effect on proliferation seen at 0.2 and 20 μM, respectively), the ZOL-induced inhibition of OSRGA proliferation being due to cell cycle arrest in S-phase. No effect on OSRGA apoptosis could be observed in vitro, as assessed by Hoechst staining and caspase-1 and -3 activation. In situ cell death was determined by TUNEL staining on tumor tissue sections. No significant difference in TUNEL-positive cells could be observed between ZOL-treated and -untreated rats. This is the first report of the anti-bone resorption and antitumoral activities of zoledronic acid in a rat model of osteosarcoma, and its beneficial association with an antitumoral chemotherapeutic drug in preventing tumor recurrence
