    The article presents the conceptual framework for preparing students for research activities in the context of competence-oriented engineering education that provide for a focus on the program-target education quality management system; incorporation of employers’ requirements to the preparation of technical university graduates for research activities and provisions of occupational standards. Inquiry-based learning has been considered the basis for the establishment of the innovative didactics of a technical university that enables implementation of the requirements of educational standards of competitive graduates. Content of the innovative didactics of the technical university presented as a functional model fosters the creative development of students, their research capabilities and functional research skills as universal ways of interaction with the outside world. The elaborated and experimentally tested functional model of the establishment of technical university students’ research competencies has been considered. This model provides for the creation of the development-promoting educational environment at the university in the course of theoretical, production and hands-on training, independent and research activities. These activities are performed using the elaborated practice-focused techniques, special-purpose forms and means of extracurricular activities; information technology, network educational resources; system of tasks, comprehensive, end-to-end research projects, interactive forms and methods; students’ self-testing and self-evaluation in the process of training.Keywords: engineering education, research competence, preparation for research activities, program-target management system, resource mode

    Remaining relevant in the digital age: the role of the writer in contemporary Russia (the case of Tat'iana Tolstaia)

    The present thesis studies Facebook publication activity of a popular contemporary Russian writer, Tat'iana Tolstaia. I argue that her posting contributes to the development of social capital (Bourdieu, 1986) among her readers and that she uses certain strategies to build both bridging and bonding social capital (Putnam, 2000). My research demonstrates that for Tolstaia the development of social capital is means of "remaining relevant"� (Wachtel, 2006): it is her way to gain authority and social respect and, consequently, to remain popular and commercially successful despite the economic and socio-cultural changes in post-Soviet Russia that have negatively affected the social status of the writer. Tat'iana Tolstaia is a broadly recognized Russian writer who in recent years has largely turned from print to Internet literature. At present Tolstaia actively develops her Facebook account: she updates her page almost daily and posts texts and media content that concerns a broad range of topics. Her page has over 170 000 followers and is open to comments. As a result, the writer's timeline has become a virtual space for public discussion and, consequently, an instrument for building social capital. Tolstaia's posts aim to develop both bridging (inclusive) and bonding (exclusive) social capital. In some publications the writer attempts to unify with all of her readers and involve everyone in the discussion, in the others she demonstrates her belonging to a distinguished social group (Russian intellectuals). In the comments to such publications Tolstaia singles out few of her readers whom she considers worthy of belonging to the same group. As a result she creates a community of contemporary Russian intellectuals. In the first case her actions develop bridging social capital, while in the second the representatives of the group share bonding social capital.Includes bibliographical reference

    Intrusive growth of sclerenchyma fibers

    Intrusive growth is a type of cell elongation when the rate of its longitudinal growth is higher than that of surrounding cells; therefore, these cells intrude between the neighboring cells penetrating the middle lamella. The review considers the classical example of intrusive growth, e.g., elongation of sclerenchyma fibers when the cells achieve the length of several centimeters. We sum the published results of investigations of plant fiber intrusive growth and present some features of intrusive growth characterized by the authors for flax (Linum usitatissimum L.) and hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) fibers. The following characteristics of intrusive growth are considered: its rate and duration, relationship with the growth rate of surrounding cells, the type of cell elongation, peculiarities of the fiber primary cell wall structure, fibers as multinucleate cells, and also the control of intrusive growth. Genes, which expression is sharply reduced at suppression of intrusive growth, are also considered. Arguments for separation of cell elongation and secondary cell wall formation in phloem fibers and also data indicating diffuse type of cell enlargement during intrusive growth are presented

    Polyelectrolyte Nanocomplexes with pH-controlled Solubility

    The prepared polyelectrolyte complexes of anionic copolymer of divinyl ester and maleic anhydride and cationic water soluble chitosan proved to be able to undergo reversible phase transition, in particular at physiological pH and ionic strength. Formation of either soluble or insoluble complexes occurred depending on pH value, charge ratio and degree of polymerization of the polymers. The stability of positively or negatively charged complexes against destruction action of the added salt drastically increased in acidic media presumably owing to H-bonds formation. According to light-scattering data, the size of the soluble complexes varied from 100 to 300 nm and remained virtually unchanged under storage after lyophilizing drying and resuspending in the same medium.
