Resilience among LGBTQIA+ youth in out-of-home care:a multidimensional exploration of their resilience resources

LGBTQIA+ youth are overrepresented in out-of-home care. They face a double burden; are exposed to stressors related to their LGBTQIA+ identity, but also confront the challenges of being removed from their families and placed in the care of the state. Traditionally, research has focused on exploring the often negative experiences that these youth go through within the out-of-home care system, neglecting the study of their resilience. In his dissertation, Rodrigo Gonzalez sought to fill this knowledge gap by investigating the main factors contributing to the resilience among LGBTQIA+ youth in out-of-home care. Resilience was approached from a multidimensional perspective, including individual, socio-relational, and community-systemic resilience resources. A first study mapped the current international knowledge on resilience among LGBTQIA+ youth in out-of-home care. The results revealed important knowledge gaps, such as the lack of studies on this topic outside the US. In a series of following studies, Rodrigo analyzed the resilience of LGBTQIA+ youth in out-of-home care in the Netherlands using data from in-depth interviews with youth and their care professionals. The studies showed the myriad of resilience resources at different levels: the individual (e.g, self relying strategies such as fighting, resisting and scaping), socio-relational (e.g, relationships of care and love), and community-systemic (e.g, care agencies’ LGBTQIA+ affirming practices and policies). The practice field can make use of these results to promote the resilience of LGBTQIA+ youth in out-of-home care by implementing LGBTQIA+ affirmative interventions s and policies

Technological Antecedents of Entrepreneurship and its Consequences for Organizational Performance

Under conditions of rapid change, companies compete intensely to achieve competitive advantages. Through technology, they differentiate themselves from other companies to obtain a better market position. Decisions concerning technological variables are thus essential to a firm’s overall competitive strategy, positioning and emplacement. Our research analyses how top management support for technology and technology skills enables technology acquisition, integration and infrastructure in firms, influencing organizational performance through corporate entrepreneurship. The analysis is performed using Structural Equation Model with a sample of 201 Spanish technological firms. The results show that awareness of technological issues enables entrepreneurship in the firm. This research was supported by the Regional Government of Andalusia’s Project (Ref.: P11-SEJ-7988)

Species status and new distribution records for Lithurgus huberi Ducke (Hymenoptera, Megachilidae, Lithurginae)

Notes are provided on the morphology of males and females of the enigmatic Lithurgus huberi Ducke (Lithurginae: Lithurgini), a species historically believed to have been introduced into South America from Asia and to be a possible synonym of the more widespread L. atratus Smith. Distinctive differences are documented between L. huberi and L. atratus, perhaps indicative of separate species. In addition, we provide new records of L. huberi in Argentina and Paraguay.Fil: Gonzalez, Victor Hugo. Oklahoma State University; Estados UnidosFil: Engel, Michael S.. The impact of financial crisis and austerity policies in Andalusia, Spain: disentangling the mechanisms of social inequalities in health through the perceptions and experiences of experts and the general population

Background: Andalusia has been one of the regions most damaged by the economic crisis in Spain. A qualitative study of the effects of the economic crisis and austerity policies in this region has been conducted within the framework of the IMPACT-A project. This research seeks to analyse the perceived impact of the crisis upon the health of the Andalusian population through the first-hand discourses of professionals from the health and social sectors on the one hand, and citizens of different socioeconomic status (SES) on the other. Methods: A total of five focus groups and ten semi-structured interviews were conducted and analysed following an inductive process based on Grounded Theory (GT). Results: Our results show a general perception among professionals: the financial crisis has either directly or indirectly affected population health in Andalusia, though mostly impacting low-income individuals who were already at risk of social exclusion. Professionals’ perceptions have been confirmed through the discourses of citizens of a lower SES, which differ from those of middle and upper SES. Conclusion: Findings reveal some of the most salient consequences on the socially vulnerable groups and people at risk of social exclusion. In particular, our study highlights the importance of addressing three areas of priority action: mental health, unmet (basic and medical) needs, and decline in the health system

ABSTRACT Objectives: Determine the most prevalent type of curve in our population, to quantify the radiographic parameters such as PT, IP, SS and compare the physical function according to ODI and SRS-22r. Methods: Retrospective, observational, longitudinal, single-center study, carried out from January 2010 to May 2015 at the Centro Médico ISSEMYM Ecatepec, Spine Surgery Service. Results: A total of 60 patients were obtained, 60% female, with curvatures according to SRS-Schwab, type T (28%), TL (46.6%), D (15%), N (10%), with a mean preoperative VAS of 7 for all curves and post-surgical 2 after 6 months. The SRS-22r preoperative test was 2.1 and postoperatively was 3.75, with p<0.001. Conclusions: Deformities of the adult spine are a growing disease in our country. The surgical management of deformities requires proper clinical and radiographic planning. Patients undergoing surgical treatment in our study showed curvature type TL and demonstrated significant improvement in ODI and SRS-22r. Keywords: Scoliosis; Classification SRS-schwab; Sagittal balance; Radiographic criteria.
