Developing Creativity Through Portrait and Selfie in Elementary Schools

    Get PDF
The aim of this work is to show a work proposal that allows the development of creativity through the main theme: Portrait and Selfie. This study has been carried out in the subject of Art Education with pupils aged 11 to 12. Working on creativity and self-representation in pre-adolescence can be an interesting topic for their future development. Currently, there are not many quantitative studies on this subject. To this end, research was carried out in four groups, divided into two control subgroups and two experimental subgroups, in which the project was applied to check whether the proposed activities enhanced and developed the creativity of the subjects studied. The students had to complete a pre-test (TTCT) and a posttest (CREA). Comparing the results, it was found that there were non-significant improvements in the teams and unevenness in motivation towards the tests. This could be due to the small sample size, the low heterogeneity of the groups, the intervention implemented and the type of assessment carried out

Manuel de Falla en el aula de educación secundaria: deconstruyendo las clasificaciones culto, folclórico y popular.

The labels classical, folk and popular music generates a series of behaviours towards each of these sonorous expressions that influence the rejection that students feel towards so-called “classical” music. In this text we propose the dissolution of these labels through the figure of Manuel de Falla, with special attention to the stage work El amor brujo (1915). By understanding this work in the context of its creation and reception and paying attention to the agents involved in its genesis (a question in which we also raise gender issues), students will be able to overcome the clichés and stereotypes associated with these music, thus acquiring meaning for them.

Ecology of Fucus vesiculosus (Phaeophyceae) at its southern limit of distribution: Growth and production of the early stages of development.

Growth and survival of two populations of Fucus vesiculosus were studied at its southern limit of distribution on the eastern Atlantic coast. Experimentally denuded areas at an estuarine and a semi-exposed site in an upwelling area (NW Spain) were followed for 17 months. Three different cohorts were detected during the sampling period. Differences among the three cohorts in terms of growth, reproduction and survival were detected. These differences may be due to the different time of appearance of the different cohorts or the presence of the previously established individuals when the second and third cohorts were recruited. Although the growth of the cohorts recruiting in autumn was higher than for the cohorts recruiting in spring and summer, the individual growth was represented in all cases by a logistic function, as the fastest rates of increase in length occurred during the first 6 months of life, and maximum length was attained after the thallus reached 1 year in age. In the same way, production was maximum for the first cohort, recruiting in autumn, even when it had the lowest survival rate, because of the rapid growth of survivors during spring and summer. For both populations, reproduction was continuous through the year but it was maximal during spring and summer. Protection from waves might have been thought to favour higher production and standing stock biomass values at the estuarine site compared with the semi-exposed site, while turnover rates of biomass were higher at the latter. Contrary to expectations, most of the nutrients available for the studied populations were not related to upwelling. Despite the fast initial growth of new recruits, both populations appeared to be very sensitive to denudation.Projects ANILE (CTM2009-08396, CTM2010-09904-E) Plan Nacional I+D+i and RADIALES (IEO)En prensa1,828

Future changes of hot extremes in Spain: towards warmer conditions

    Get PDF
Financiado para publicación en acceso aberto: Universidade de Vigo/CISUGOne of the most relevant effects of climate change is its influence on the frequency and intensity of extreme events. The analysis and understanding of these events are of great importance due to the probability of causing environmental and social damage. In this study, we investigate changes in extreme hot temperature events over Spain for the near future (2021–2050) in relation to a control period (1971–2000) by using regional climate model simulations from the EURO-CORDEX project. The projection results show a significant increase in the number of extremely warm temperatures throughout the area. A significant strong increase in warm days and warm nights is projected over the domain. Simulations also project more frequent summer days and tropical nights over most parts of the region. The most significant increase in relation to the present climatology corresponds to warm nights, while simulations corresponding to tropical nights project the smallest changes.Xunta de Galicia | Ref. Molecular identification of the transient species mediating the deactivation dynamics of solvated guanosine and deazaguanosine

Small structural alterations of the purine/pyrimidine core have been related to important photophysical changes, such as the loss of photostability. Similarly to canonical nucleobases, solute-solvent interactions can lead to a change in the excited state lifetimes and/or to the interplay of different states in the photophysics of these modified nucleobases. To shed light on both effects, we here report a complete picture of the absorption spectra and excited state deactivation of deoxyguanosine and its closely related derivative, deoxydeazaguanosine, in water and methanol through the mapping of the excited state potential energy surfaces and molecular dynamics simulations at the TD-DFT level of theory. We show that the N by CH exchange in the imidazole ring of deoxyguanosine translates into a small red-shift of the bright states and slightly faster dynamics. In contrast, changing solvent from water to methanol implies the opposite, i.e., that the deactivation of both systems to the ground state is significantly hindered

Cognitive impairment acceleration after late-life depression in a model of Alzheimer´s disease

    Get PDF
Background: Clinical studies suggest that depressive symptoms could be considered an important risk factor for the future development of cognitive impairment and even Alzheimer's disease (AD). In fact, there is a strong association between depression in later life and AD. The age of onset of AD has been shown to be accelerated in patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) with a history of depression, and women appear to be particularly more vulnerable to this condition. In addition, individuals with MCI who present with depressive symptoms have an elevated burden of amyloid-beta (Aβ), the main toxic protein associated with Alzheimer's pathology, and a higher risk of developing AD compared to non-depressed MCI patients. However, it is unknown whether depression can be considered a risk factor for the development of AD. Although it has been described that some transgenic models of AD can develop signs similar to depression in advanced stages, the induction of Alzheimer's pathology due to a depressive process has not been studied under experimental conditions to emulate late-life depression as a risk factor for AD. Method: In this study, we induced chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) in P301S tau transgenic mice to determine whether depression is a cause, rather than a consequence, of the development of AD. Result: The results of our study indicate that the induction of CUMS in transgenic animals of the disease give rise to changes in depressive state of the animals. Conclusion: The findings generated in this project could provide evidence of depression as a risk factor for AD, its mechanisms of action, use as early biomarkers, as well as the discovery of new therapies for AD.Universidad de Málaga.
