Propuesta para un Proyecto de Evaluación de Stocks de Camarón de Profundidad en aguas de Cabo Verde (2010-2013)
A bibliographic revision on the fisheries research in the Canary, Madeira, and the Azores
Islands related to stock assessment of the striped soldier shrimp (Plesionika edwardsii) (Crustacea,
Decapoda, Pandalidae) was made. Biological information –reproduction, growth, mortality,
recruitment– of the target species, selective technological developments –multiple semi-floating
shrimp traps–, and know-how gained by the ICCM can give support to elaborate and execute an
ICCM-INDP joint project, in order to explore and assess its insular stocks in the Capeverdian deepwaters
(150-300 m). In the frame of the UE Trans-national Cooperation Programme MAC (2007-
2013), the next coming call for proposals seems to be an adequate source to fund it. This project
should include some activities for the valorisation and promotion of this new shellfish product, as
well as for scientific-technical and social divulgation, and for giving advice to the decision-makers.
Lastly, with the aim of developing a new fishing activity in the Cape Verdes on a responsible and
sustainable basis, authors have scheduled a second study phase. This should consist of a process of
technology transfer, followed by an experimental fishing pilot project including a study on
biological and commercial viability with the participation of the Capeverdian fishing sector
Forecasting Food Price Inflation in Developing Countries with Inflation Targeting Regimes: the Colombian Case
Many developing countries are adopting inflation targeting regimes to guide monetary policy decisions. In such countries the share of food in the consumption basket is high and policy makers often employ total inflation (as opposed to core inflation) to set inflationary targets. Therefore, central banks need to develop reliable models to forecast food inflation. Our literature review suggests that little has been done in the construction of models to forecast short-run food inflation in developing countries. We develop a model to improve short-run food inflation forecasts in Colombia. The model disaggregates food items according to economic theory and employs Flexible Least Squares given the presence of structural changes in the inflation series. We compare the performance of this new model to current models employed by the central bank. Next, we apply econometric methods to combine forecasts from alternative models and test whether such combination outperforms individual models. Our results indicate that forecasts can be improved by classifying food basket items according to unprocessed, processed and food away from home and by employing forecast combination techniques.Food Inflation, Time Series,
Black-hole binary simulations: the mass ratio 10:1
We present the first numerical simulations of an initially non-spinning
black-hole binary with mass ratio as large as 10:1 in full general relativity.
The binary completes approximately 3 orbits prior to merger and radiates about
0.415% of the total energy and 12.48% of the initial angular momentum in the
form of gravitational waves. The single black hole resulting from the merger
acquires a kick of about 66.7 km/s relative to the original center of mass
frame. The resulting gravitational waveforms are used to validate existing
formulas for the recoil, final spin and radiated energy over a wider range of
the symmetric mass ratio parameter eta=M1*M2/(M1+M2)^2 than previously
possible. The contributions of l > 2 multipoles are found to visibly influence
the gravitational wave signal obtained at fixed inclination angles.Comment: To match published versio
Ultra-Broadband Directional Couplers Using Microstrip with Dielectric Overlay in Millimeter-Wave Band
Nowadays, millimeter-wave systems are being a key factor to develop wide band applications. In this paper, a directional coupler in millimeter-wave band using dielectric overlay is presented. This leads us to technology aspects, in directional coupler design, are key points to achieve the proper response of the circuit. The coupler proposed in this paper covers the 15-45 GHz band and its response has 15-dB coupling-level, 1-dB coupling-ripple and a reflection coefficient better than 10 dB

Inter-rater and intra-rater reliability of the extended TUG test in elderly participants
Background: To analyse the reliability, variance and execution time of the Extended Timed Up and Go (Extended
TUG) test in three age groups of elderly participants (G1: 55–64 years; G2: 65–74 years; G3: 75–85 years).
Methods: An analytical cross-sectional study of 114 recruited participants (63 women) of average age 70.17 (± 7.3) years
was undertaken. Each participant performed the Extended TUG three consecutive times, with a rest break between tests of
120 s. Both the intragroup and intergroup reliability of the measurements in the Extended TUG were analysed.
Results: The reliability of the Extended TUG test is excellent for the first and second decades but drops down to good for
the third decade. Specifically, intragroup reliability ranged from 0.784 for G3 to 0.977 for G1 (G2 = 0.858). Intergroup reliability,
compared with intragroup reliability, was slightly lower, ranging between 0.779 for G3 and 0.972 for G1 (G2 = 0.853).
Conclusion: The reliability of the Extended TUG test progressively decreases with increasing age, being excellent for the
younger age groups and good for the oldest age group
