Rapid cryogenic characterisation of 1024 integrated silicon quantum dots

Quantum computers are nearing the thousand qubit mark, with the current focus
on scaling to improve computational performance. As quantum processors grow in
complexity, new challenges arise such as the management of device variability
and the interface with supporting electronics. Spin qubits in silicon quantum
dots are poised to address these challenges with their proven control
fidelities and potential for compatibility with large-scale integration. Here,
we demonstrate the integration of 1024 silicon quantum dots with on-chip
digital and analogue electronics, all operating below 1 K. A high-frequency
analogue multiplexer provides fast access to all devices with minimal
electrical connections, enabling characteristic data across the quantum dot
array to be acquired in just 5 minutes. We achieve this by leveraging
radio-frequency reflectometry with state-of-the-art signal integrity, reaching
a minimum integration time of 160 ps. Key quantum dot parameters are extracted
by fast automated machine learning routines to assess quantum dot yield and
understand the impact of device design. We find correlations between quantum
dot parameters and room temperature transistor behaviour that may be used as a
proxy for in-line process monitoring. Our results show how rapid large-scale
studies of silicon quantum devices can be performed at lower temperatures and
measurement rates orders of magnitude faster than current probing techniques,
and form a platform for the future on-chip addressing of large scale qubit

32 pags., 26 figs., 3 tabs. -- This article belongs to the Section Remote SensorsThe Radiation and Dust Sensor is one of six sensors of the Mars Environmental Dynamics Analyzer onboard the Perseverance rover from the Mars 2020 NASA mission. Its primary goal is to characterize the airbone dust in the Mars atmosphere, inferring its concentration, shape and optical properties. Thanks to its geometry, the sensor will be capable of studying dust-lifting processes with a high temporal resolution and high spatial coverage. Thanks to its multiwavelength design, it will characterize the solar spectrum from Mars' surface. The present work describes the sensor design from the scientific and technical requirements, the qualification processes to demonstrate its endurance on Mars' surface, the calibration activities to demonstrate its performance, and its validation campaign in a representative Mars analog. As a result of this process, we obtained a very compact sensor, fully digital, with a mass below 1 kg and exceptional power consumption and data budget features.This work has been funded with the help of the Spanish National Research, Development

International audiencePerseverance landed on Jezero with the most complete suite of environmental sensors ever sent to the surface of another planet. It combines the Mars Environmental Dynamics Analyzer (MEDA), the MastCam-Z and Engineering cameras, SuperCam spectrometers and, finally, the several microphones onboard the Mars 2020 rover. The most recent collection of atmospheric observations at Jezero and their interpretation are building an understanding of what physical processes drive the behavior of the Martian atmosphere near the surface of Jezero. We report on the observed Martian cycles of pressure, temperature, dust opacity with their physical aerosol properties, and the hydrological cycle at Jezero. These cycles have shown different behaviors on time scales from diurnal to seasonal and annual to other locations where we landed before. The differences illustrate the range of environmental processes that one can find near the red planetâs surface. We also report on the observed evolution of the near-surface boundary layer thermodynamics during the day and nighttime regimes

The objective of this work is to analyze the survival of infliximab, etanercept and adalimumab in patients who have switched among tumor necrosis factor (TNF) antagonists for the treatment of chronic arthritis. BIOBADASER is a national registry of patients with different forms of chronic arthritis who are treated with biologics. Using this registry, we have analyzed patient switching of TNF antagonists. The cumulative discontinuation rate was calculated using the actuarial method. The log-rank test was used to compare survival curves, and Cox regression models were used to assess independent factors associated with discontinuing medication. Between February 2000 and September 2004, 4,706 patients were registered in BIOBADASER, of whom 68% had rheumatoid arthritis, 11% ankylosing spondylitis, 10% psoriatic arthritis, and 11% other forms of chronic arthritis. One- and two-year drug survival rates of the TNF antagonist were 0.83 and 0.75, respectively. There were 488 patients treated with more than one TNF antagonist. In this situation, survival of the second TNF antagonist decreased to 0.68 and 0.60 at 1 and 2 years, respectively. Survival was better in patients replacing the first TNF antagonist because of adverse events (hazard ratio (HR) for discontinuation 0.55 (95% confidence interval (CI), 0.34-0.84)), and worse in patients older than 60 years (HR 1.10 (95% CI 0.97-2.49)) or who were treated with infliximab (HR 3.22 (95% CI 2.13-4.87)). In summary, in patients who require continuous therapy and have failed to respond to a TNF antagonist, replacement with a different TNF antagonist may be of use under certain situations. The centrality dependence of the charged-particle multiplicity density at mid-rapidity in Pb-Pb collisions at sNNââ = 2.76 TeV is presented. The charged-particle density normalized per participating nucleon pair increases by about a factor 2 from peripheral (70-80%) to central (0-5%) collisions. The centrality dependence is found to be similar to that observed at lower collision energies. Inclusive transverse momentum spectra of primary charged particles in PbâPb collisions at âsNN=2.76 TeV have been measured by the ALICE Collaboration at the LHC. The data are presented for central and peripheral collisions, corresponding to 0â5% and 70â80% of the hadronic PbâPb cross section. The measured charged particle spectra in |η|<0.8 and 0.3<pT<20 GeV/c are compared to the expectation in pp collisions at the same sNN, scaled by the number of underlying nucleonânucleon collisions. The comparison is expressed in terms of the nuclear modification factor RAA. The result indicates only weak medium effects (RAAâ0.7) in peripheral collisions. In central collisions, RAA reaches a minimum of about 0.14 at pT=6â7 GeV/c and increases significantly at larger pT. The measured suppression of high-pT particles is stronger than that observed at lower collision energies, indicating that a very dense medium is formed in central PbâPb collisions at the LHC

The first measurement of two-pion BoseâEinstein correlations in central PbâPb collisions at âsNN=2.76 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider is presented. We observe a growing trend with energy now not only for the longitudinal and the outward but also for the sideward pion source radius. The pion homogeneity volume and the decoupling time are significantly larger than those measured at RHIC

The ALICE experiment at the LHC has studied inclusive J/Ï production at central and forward rapidities in pp collisions at âs=7 TeV. In this Letter, we report on the first results obtained detecting the J/Ï through the dilepton decay into e+eâ and ÎŒ+ÎŒâ pairs in the rapidity ranges |y|<0.9 and 2.5<y<4, respectively, and with acceptance down to zero pT. In the dielectron channel the analysis was carried out on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity Lint=5.6 nbâ1 and the number of signal events is NJ/Ï=352±32(stat.)±28(syst.); the corresponding figures in the dimuon channel are Lint=15.6 nbâ1 and NJ/Ï=1924±77(stat.)±144(syst.). The measured production cross sections are ÏJ/Ï(|y|<0.9)=10.7±1.0(stat.)±1.6(syst.)â2.3+1.6(syst.pol.)ÎŒb and ÏJ/Ï(2.5<y<4)=6.31±0.25(stat.)±0.76(syst.)â1.96+0.95(syst.pol.)ÎŒb. The differential cross sections, in transverse momentum and rapidity, of the J/Ï were also measured
