A comunicação de ciência é um fator preponderante para a evolução do pensamento crítico e para o exercício da cidadania. As atuais possibilidades de transmissão e transferência de informação permitem uma difusão (disseminação e divulgação) mais eficaz do conhecimento científico e, consequentemente, através da conscientização, um maior envolvimento dos cidadãos na tomada de decisões. Com este projeto, pretende-se criar um modelo de comunicação visual que contribua para uma melhor e mais consistente divulgação do conhecimento científico a um público mais abrangente e não especializado. A ilustração científica é empregue como um recurso visual contributivo no aumento da eficácia do processo de compreensão e assimilação, na interpretação e na memorização de dados resultantes da investigação científica. O desenvolvimento de infográficos baseados na transposição de dados científicos para uma representação mais gráfica faz parte do seu domínio. Primeiramente, foi realizada uma pesquisa bibliográfica sobre os aspetos conceituais que relacionam a divulgação científica com o uso de recursos visuais, bem como o caráter informativo, argumentativo e pedagógico da ilustração científica e dos infográficos. Em seguida e recorrendo à elaboração de textos e imagens para artigos, analisa-se a relevância potencial deste modelo na capacidade de análise e compreensão dos conteúdos e problemáticas complexas por um público não especializado.The communication of science is a major factor for the evolution of critical thinking and the exercise of citizenship. The current possibilities for the transmission and transfer of information allow a more effective diffusion (dissemination and divulgation) of scientific knowledge and, consequently through awareness, greater involvement of citizens in decision making. This project aims to create a visual communication model that contributes to a better and more consistent divulgation to a broader and unskilled audience. Scientific illustration is used as a visual resource that contributes in increasing the efficiency of the process of understanding, assimilating, interpreting and memorizing data resulting from scientific research. The development of infographics based on the transposition of scientific data to a more graphical representation is part of its domain. First, a bibliographical research was carried out on the conceptual aspects that relate scientific communication with the use of visual aids, as well as the informative, argumentative, and pedagogical character of scientific illustration and infographics. Then, using the elaboration of texts and images for articles, we analyze the potential relevance of this model in the ability to analyze and understand complex contents and problems by a non-specialized public.Mestrado em Biologia Aplicad

Abordagem sociorretórica das construções resumitivas na área de Letras

This article discusses the literacy practices inside the university. Our research aimed to analyze the socio-rhetorical movements of the genre acade- mic abstract as produced by Brazilian students as part of their undergraduate thesis. For the corpus of our research, we have selected ten abstracts taken from undergraduate thesis written by Based in Swales (1990) and Bhatia (1993), we came to the observation that although the students did fallow the organizational pattern of the genre some texts presented very generic informa- tion, which can come to compromise the rhetorical agency of the genre.O presente artigo discute as práticas de letramento no universo aca- dêmico. Esta pesquisa teve por objetivo analisar os movimentos sociorretó- ricos do gênero resumo textualizados pelos alunos universitários brasileiros no trabalho de conclusão de curso. Para viabilizar sua elaboração, seleciona- mos como corpus de pesquisa dez resumos contidos nos elementos pré-tex- tuais de monografias dos graduandos do curso de Licenciatura em Letras. Influenza A(H3) whole genome analysis: searching causes for vaccine failure in 2011/2012

Background: The 2011/2012 season in Portugal, was characterized by an excess mortality and influenza vaccine failures. Predominant influenza A(H3) viruses with new antigenic properties were associated with potential host immune evasion. The aim of this study was to determine possible viral genetic causes that may be associated with cases of vaccine failure by performing a whole genome-based comparison of viruses detected in vaccinated (vacc) and unvaccinated (unvacc) individuals in 2011/2012 season. Methods: In 2011/12 season, 678 nasopharyngeal swabs from ILI cases were analyzed by the Portuguese NIC. Were detected 260 influenza A(H3) and 6 B/Yamagata viruses. For whole genome sequencing (WGS) 25 A(H3) positive samples, 20 from vacc and 5 from unvacc individuals, were selected. Each of the influenza genomic segments was submitted to standard or multiplex PCR amplification. WGS was performed on a MiSeq platform. Multiple alignments, phylogenetic and mutational analysis were performed using MEGA software 6.0. Results: Influenza A(H3) viruses clustered into different genetic clades, reflecting the clades circulating in Portugal, in2011/2012. 20 viruses belonged to clade 6 (reference strain A/Iowa/19/2010) and 5 viruses have clustered in the clade 3: 1 from clade 3A (A/Stockholm/18/2011), a second from clade 3B (A/England/259/2011) and 3 viruses from clade 3C (A/Victoria/361/2011). Viral genomes were highly similar at nucleotide level, ranging 98.2% – 100.0% of similarity. Matrix and nucleoprotein genomic segments were the most conserved, whereas the highest number of substitutions leading to amino acid changes was observed in hemagglutinin and neuraminidase segments (comparisons performed against the vaccine strain A/Perth/16/2009). The deduced amino acid sequences of viral proteins did not reveal any particular feature assigned to the group of vacc or unvacc individuals. Conclusions: In all 8 genomic segments of studied viruses no particular amino acid substitution was found to be associated with the vacc or unvacc cases. The observed differences were associated with the genetic distances between the clades to which viruses belong rather than with vaccine failure. Still, WGS in influenza surveillance is a powerful tool for monitoring the overall evolution of viral genome and establishment of molecular markers for, disease severity and drug resistance. This study points that a full evaluation of influenza vaccine failures should integrate not only data on virus characteristics, but also on host genetic polymorphisms related to immunity and serosurveys in order to better evaluate interindividual variation in influenza vaccine-induced immune responses.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Os sentidos e os significados produzidos pela escola em relação à família homoparental: Um estudo de caso

 A família tem, nas últimas décadas, sofrido significativas mudanças, que têm acarretado a formação de novas configurações familiares. Buscou-se investigar, quais os sentidos e significados produzidos pelos atores da escola em relação à família homoparental. Realizaram-se entrevistas livres com dezesseis representantes dos vários segmentos de uma escola pública, de Recife-PE. Realizou-se uma análise, a partir de três núcleos de significação, a saber: (a) consanguinidade ou cuidado?; (b) A família estrutura é pai, mãe e filho no contexto normal; (c) novas configurações familiares: isso não tem a ver com a escola. Identificou-se que o conceito de família está atrelado à configuração nuclear e que a homoparentalidade não é, na maioria das vezes, pensada como família e nem discutida nesse espaço educativo.   Palavras-chave: homoparentalidade; família; sentidos; significados; escola. The family has, in recent decades, undergone significant changes, which has entailed the formation of new family configurations. We tried to investigate what the senses and meanings are produced by the actors of schools in relation to homoparental family. We had free interviews with sixteen representatives of various segments of a public school of Recife-PE. An analysis was performed from three areas of significance, namely: 1) consanguinity or care?; 2) The family structure is father, mother and child in the normal context ; 3) new family configurations: this has nothing to do with school. In general, we identified that the concept of family is tied to the nuclear family configuration and that homoparenthood is not, in most cases, either thought as family or discussed in the educational settings.   Keywords: homoparenthood; family; senses; meanings; school

A gestão dos dados de pesquisa no âmbito da comunidade dos pesquisadores vinculados aos programas de pós graduação brasileiros na área da Ciência da Informação: desvendando as práticas e percepções associadas ao uso e reuso de dados dados

The research investigated the practices and perceptions associated with data management by researchers in Brazilian postgraduate programs in the Information Science (IC) area. A semi-structured survey was used as the research instrument, it was sent by e-mail to 341 researchers linked to the Brazilian postgraduate programs in CI. The data was analyzed through descriptive statistics techniques and thematic analysis. It was found that the data management practices conducted by the researchers need to be improved and that they have a favorable approach regarding data sharing, provided there is some formal control over them
