Hybrid materials of pyrene substituted phthalocyanines with single-walled carbon nanotubes: structure and sensing properties

    Get PDF
Hybrid materials of single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) were obtained by their non-covalent functionalization with asymmetrically polyoxyethylene substituted phthalocyanines (MPc-py (M = Cu, Co, 2H)) bearing one pyrene group as a substituent. The attachment of MPc-py molecules onto the SWCNT surface have been confirmed using Raman spectroscopy, SEM, TEM and thermogravimetric analysis. The pyrene substituents were introduced to the phthalocyanine macrocycle in order to improve π–π interaction between the MPc-py and SWCNT. The effect of the central metal on the formation and sensor properties of the MPc-py within the hybrids has been verified. It has been shown that the electrical response of the hybrid films to ammonia vapor in the concentration range of 10–50 ppm changes in the following order CuPc-py > CoPc-py > H2Pc-py, which was found to be in good correlation with the amount of phthalocyanine molecules adsorbed onto the SWCNT walls, as estimated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA)

Thin films of fluorinated 3d-metal phthalocyanines as chemical sensors of ammonia: an optical spectroscopy study

A comparative study of the sensor response toward gaseous ammonia of hexadecafluorinated 3d-metal phthalocyanine (MPcF16, MCu(II), Co(II), Zn(II), Ni(II)) thin films was performed using complementary experimental (viz., surface plasmon resonance, SPR, and IR absorption spectroscopy) along with theoretical (density functional theory calculations, DFT) techniques. SPR measurements revealed changes of both thickness and optical parameters (refraction indices and extinction coefficients) of the MPcF16 films caused by adsorption of NH3. The MPcF16 species studied exhibited the following order of sensor response: ZnPcF16>CoPcF16≥CuPcF16>NiPcF16. A good correlation was found between the DFT calculated (B3LYP/6-311++G(2df,p)) binding energies, experimentally measured shift of the selected IR bands, and the optical sensor response. Apart from this, we performed a detailed assignment of all intense..

The influence of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (10-20 weight %) on the expenditure and accumulation of chromophore groups was studied, as well as oxygen absorption upon photooxidation of a vinyl alcohol - vinyl acetate copolymer. The article suggests a kinetic model of the expenditure and accumulation of functional groups upon photooxidation of the mentioned copolymer and of blends based on it.
