Characterization of the Intra-Unit-Cell magnetic order in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+d
As in YBa2Cu3O6+x and HgBa2CuO8+d, the pseudo-gap state in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+d is
characterized by the existence of an intra-unit-cell magnetic order revealed by
polarized neutron scattering technique. We report here a supplementary set of
polarized neutron scattering measurements for which the direction of the
magnetic moment is determined and the magnetic intensity is calibrated in
absolute units. The new data allow a close comparison between bilayer systems
YBa2Cu3O6+x and Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+d and rise important questions concerning the
range of the magnetic correlations and the role of disorder around optimal
doping.Comment: 12 pages, 8 figures, submitted to physical review
Recalling an unfair experience reduces adolescents’ dishonest behavioral intentions: The mediating role of justice sensitivity
This is the author accepted manuscript. The final version is available from Springer Verlag via the DOI in this record.Injustice experiences are likely to have a strong impact on—adolescents' life. However, individuals differ in how they perceive and respond to injustice depending on their justice sensitivity. Whereas several studies analyzed the relationships between justice sensitivity and antisocial behaviors in adult samples, little is known about this relationship among adolescents. The aim of the present experimental study is to expand knowledge on the antecedents and effects of justice sensitivity from the Victim (i.e., JS-Victim) and Others (i.e., JS-Observer, Perpetrator, and Beneficiary) perspective, particularly with regard to its relationship to willingness to act in dishonest behavioral intentions (e.g., stealing money or objects from classmates, teachers, or strangers). The study involved 369 Italian students (52% males; Mage = 16.64, SD = 1.78). We examined the role of justice sensitivity in the relationship between the recall of unfair, fair, or neutral episodes, and the consequent willingness to perform dishonest behaviors. Results demonstrate that recalling unfair (vs. fair or neutral) episodes leads to an increase in JS-Others, which in turn decreased willingness to behave dishonestly. Conversely, JS-Victim did not mediate the relationship between the recall of unfair episodes and intentions to behave dishonestly. The present findings suggest that during adolescence JS-Others might act as a protective factor against dishonest behaviors. This study was made possible due a FIRB 2012 grant from the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR; Grant Number RBFR128CR6)

The involvement of regulatory T cells in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and their therapeutic potential
Neuroinflammation, meaning the establishment of a diffuse inflammatory condition in the CNS, is one of the main hallmarks of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Recently, a crucial role of regulatory T cells (Tregs) in this disease has been outlined. Tregs are a T cell subpopulation with immunomodulatory properties. In this review, we discuss the physiology of Tregs and their role in ALS disease onset and progression. Evidence has demonstrated that in ALS patients Tregs are dramatically and progressively reduced in number and are less effective in promoting immune suppression. In addition, Tregs levels correlate with the rate of disease progression and patient survival. For this reason, Tregs are now considered a promising therapeutic target for neuroprotection in ALS. In this review, the clinical impact of these cells will be discussed and an overview of the current clinical trials targeting Tregs is also provided
Analyzing X-ray pulsar profiles: geometry and beam pattern of A 0535+26
We applied a decomposition method to the energy dependent pulse profiles of
the accreting binary pulsar A 0535+26, in order to identify the contribution of
the two magnetic poles of the neutron star and to obtain constraints on the
geometry of the system and on the beam pattern. We analyzed pulse profiles
obtained from RXTE observations in the X-ray regime. Basic assumptions of the
method are that the asymmetry observed in the pulse profiles is caused by
non-antipodal magnetic poles and that the emission regions have axisymmetric
beam patterns. Constraints on the geometry of the pulsar and a possible
solution of the beam pattern are given. We interpreted the reconstructed beam
pattern in terms of a geometrical model of a hollow column plus a halo of
scattered radiation on the neutron star surface, which includes relativistic
light deflection.Comment: accepted in A&
One Hundred Years of Observations of the Be Star HDE 245770 (the X-ray Binary A0535+26/V725 Tau): The End of an Active Phase
UBV observations of the X-ray binary system A0535+26/V725 Tau at the Crimean
Station of the Sternberg Astronomical Institute in 1980-1998 are presented.
Based on our and published data, we analyze the photometric history of the star

The loopy UV line profiles of RU Lupi: accretion, outflows, and fluorescence
We present far-ultraviolet spectra of the classical T Tauri star RU Lupi
covering the 912-1710 A spectral range, as observed by the HST/STIS and FUSE
satellites. We use these spectra, which are rich in emission and absorption
lines, to probe both the accreting and outflowing gas. Absorption in the
Ly-alpha profile constrains the extinction to A_V=0.07 mag, which we confirm
with other diagnostics. We estimate a mass accretion rate of
(5\pm2)\times10^{-8}$ M_\odot/yr using the optical-NUV accretion continuum. The
accreting gas is also detected in bright, broad lines of C IV, Si IV, and N V,
which all show complex structures across the line profile. Many other emission
lines, including those of H_2 and Fe II, are pumped by Ly-alpha. RU Lupi's
spectrum varies significantly in the FUV; our STIS observations occurred when
RU Lupi was brighter than several other observations in the FUV, possibly due
to a high mass accretion rate.Comment: in press, to be published in June AJ. 19 pages text, 18 Figures, 10
