This article aims to reflect on the identity of the teacher who teaches for Haitian students in Brazil. From the narratives of a Haitian living in the northwestern region of Paraná, it was possible to define some elements that characterize the way of life in Haiti and the reasons for emigrating, comparing the identity of the teacher in Haiti and Brazil, and, finally, identifying essential characteristics that the teacher who works with immigrant students should have. We identified that the teacher who works with immigrants needs to understand that these students, in addition to graduating, they need to break the barrier of survival. Therefore, we highlight the importance of thinking about humanized teacher training processes, which contemplate the diversity, multiculturalism and uniqueness of the subjects in the training processes, especially those victimized by social vulnerability

Success of bone marrow transplantation (BMT) depends upon the cooperative action of different professionals, besides the medical team, to attend complex and multiple needs of patients submitted to BMT. In this review we discuss the role of nursing, nutrition, physical therapy and social work teams in caring for those patients. The role of mental health professionals, psychologists and psychiatrists, was discussed in a separate chapter of this Symposium

European traditional tomatoes galore: a result of farmers’ selection of a few diversity-rich loci

A comprehensive collection of 1254 tomato accessions, corresponding to European traditional and modern varieties, early domesticated varieties, and wild relatives, was analyzed by genotyping by sequencing. A continuous genetic gradient between the traditional and modern varieties was observed. European traditional tomatoes displayed very low genetic diversity, with only 298 polymorphic loci (95% threshold) out of 64 943 total variants. European traditional tomatoes could be classified into several genetic groups. Two main clusters consisting of Spanish and Italian accessions showed higher genetic diversity than the remaining varieties, suggesting that these regions might be independent secondary centers of diversity with a different history. Other varieties seem to be the result of a more recent complex pattern of migrations and hybridizations among the European regions. Several polymorphic loci were associated in a genome-wide association study with fruit morphological traits in the European traditional collection. The corresponding alleles were found to contribute to the distinctive phenotypic characteristic of the genetic varietal groups. The few highly polymorphic loci associated with morphological traits in an otherwise a low-diversity population suggests a history of balancing selection, in which tomato farmers likely maintained the morphological variation by inadvertently applying a high selective pressure within different varietal types. This work was supported by the European Commission H2020 research and innovation program through TRADITOM grant agreement no. 634561, G2P-SOL, grant agreement no. 677379, and HARNESSTOM grant agreement no. 101000716. Upstream ORF affects MYCN translation depending on exon 1b alternative splicing

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The <it>MYCN </it>gene is transcribed into two major mRNAs: one full-length (<it>MYCN) </it>and one exon 1b-spliced (<it>MYCN</it>Δ1<it>b</it>) mRNA. But nothing is known about their respective ability to translate the MYCN protein.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Plasmids were prepared to enable translation from the upstream (uORF) and major ORF of the two <it>MYCN </it>transcripts. Translation was studied after transfection in neuroblastoma SH-EP cell line. Impact of the upstream AUG on translation was evaluated after directed mutagenesis. Functional study with the two <it>MYCN </it>mRNAs was conducted by a cell viability assay. Existence of a new protein encoded by the <it>MYCN</it>Δ1<it>b </it>uORF was explored by designing a rabbit polyclonal antibody against a specific epitope of this protein.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Both are translated, but higher levels of protein were seen with <it>MYCN</it>Δ1<it>b </it>mRNA. An upstream ORF was shown to have positive cis-regulatory activity on translation from <it>MYCN </it>but not from <it>MYCN</it>Δ1<it>b </it>mRNA. In transfected SH-EP neuroblastoma cells, high MYCN dosage obtained with <it>MYCN</it>Δ1<it>b </it>mRNA translation induces an antiapoptotic effect after serum deprivation that was not observed with low MYCN expression obtained with <it>MYCN </it>mRNA. Here, we showed that MYCNOT: <it>MYCN </it>Overlap Transcript, a new protein of unknown function is translated from the upstream AUG of <it>MYCN</it>Δ1<it>b </it>mRNA.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Existence of upstream ORF in <it>MYCN </it>transcripts leads to a new level of MYCN regulation. The resulting MYCN dosage has a weak but significant anti-apoptotic activity after intrinsic apoptosis induction.</p

Sukabumi Regency has potential tourism sector which encourage the use of beach attractions in Pelabuhan Ratu Bay. The main tourist attraction is the hilly and plain panorama beach. This study is aimed to analyze landform and coastal typology to support coastal tourism development. This research provides overlay method of height and slope map, field observation, and verification. Identification of coastal typology was based on coastal materials (rock types and structures), relief (slopes and altitudes), and genesis. Comparative and descriptive spatial analysis were used as method of analysis. The result showed that the coastal typology of landform of Pelabuhan Ratu Bay consisted of volcanic, marine deposition, and organic coast. The beaches such as Cibareno, Cibangban, Karang Naya, Kadaka, and Loji have volcanic coast landform with flat, wavy, sandy, rocky beach typologies. The beaches in Pelabuhan Ratu sub-district, such as Citepus, Gado Bangkong, and Karang Pamulang, have landform of marine deposition with flat and sandy beach typology. Karang Haji and Karang Hawu beaches are coral reef organic beaches. Meanwhile, estuaries were found in Cikakak estuary and Cimaja beaches. The existence of beach tourism in Pelabuhan Ratu Bay is dominated by rocky sandy beaches and flat reliefs strongly support the development of coastal ecotourism
