A Three-Year Study on Peer Evaluation in a Software Engineering Project Course

Background: Peer evaluation in software engineering (SE) project courses enhances the learning experience of students. It also helps instructors monitor and assess both teams and individual students. Peer evaluations might influence the way individual students and teams work therefore the quality of the peer evaluations should be tracked through the project course. Contribution: In this paper, we analyzed the quality and scoring behavior of students in peer evaluation in an undergraduate SE project course over three years. Research Questions: RQ1: What is the quality of peer evaluation of undergraduate students in a SE project course? RQ2: How do undergraduate students in a SE project course score each other? Methodology: The quality of peer evaluation (length, level of detail, etc.) and scoring of peers based on various aspects of peer evaluations of third-year students in a year-long SE project course were studied. Taking into account the grade students received at the end of the course (A, B, C and F-calibers), peer evaluations were categorized, analyzed over time and compared between students calibers. Findings: After analyzing 6,854 peer evaluations from 193 students, it was found that the quality of peer evaluations across students was mostly consistent throughout the course. Also, it was observed that quantitative aspects of the peer evaluation were scored similarly across student calibers. However, the qualitative aspects of the peer evaluation were impacted by the caliber of students. These findings suggest that weaker students (i.e., C-caliber students) generally receive better quality peer evaluations than stronger students (i.e., A-caliber students). Lastly, a preliminary analysis showed a positive connotation of emotions and sentiments found in textual feedback delivered by students

Comparative evaluation of the effects of a new biological adhesive (Colagel) on the tensile strength and healing of intestinal anastomoses

The effects of a new biological adhesive based on a mixture of gelatin-resorcin and formaldehyde (Colagel) for use as an adjuvant in the reinforcement, impermeabilization and healing of intestinal anastomoses were evaluated and compared to those obtained with omentun fixation, the standard procedure used for this purpose. Two ileal anastomoses were performed in each of 12 experimental dogs using an extramucosal technique and single plane sutures. One of the anastomoses in each animal was covered with adhesive and the other with omentun, in random order. The anastomosed intestinal segments were tested for tensile strength and analysed histopathologically 1, 3, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days after surgery. The tensile strength of the anastomoses treated by the two different procedures was statistically identical. Histopathology revealed normal healing evolution for both procedures on days 1, 3 and 7, and greater exudation in the adhesive group on days 14, 21 and 28 after surgery.Os efeitos de un novo adesivo biológico a base de gelatina - resorcina e formaldefdo (Colagel), como adjuvante no reforço, impermeabilização e cicatrização de anastomoses intestinais,    foram avaliados e comparados com a omentopexia, procedimento padrão em cirurgias dessa natureza. Duas anastomoses ileais foram realizadas em 12 cães de experimentação empregando-se, como sutura, técnica em pontos simples separados extramucosos em plano único. Para a avaliação comparativa, estas receberam, respectivamente, o adesivo e a omentopexia. Os segmentos intestinais que receberam as anastomoses foram avaliados segundo a força tênsil e histopatologia aos 1, 3, 7, 14, 21 e 28 dias de pós-operatório. 0 estudo da força tênsil das anastomoses tratadas pelos procedimentos não mostrou diferenças estatisticamente significativas. A histopatologia revelou evolução normal da cicatrização em ambas as técnicas, nos dias 1, 3 e 7 e maior exudação no grupo cota aos 14, 21 e 28 dias de pós-operatório

The influence of activities on the quality of life of the elderly: a systematic review

The scope of this study was to identify which activities or interventions cause changes in the quality of life of the elderly. It involved a sys¬tematic review of the literature in the Scopus, ISI Web of Science, Scielo, Lilacs, BDenf and PubMed databases. The key word for the Medical Subject Heading (MeSH) used was “quality of life,” in combination with the terms of greatest interest: “elderly, motor activity, education.” The research was conducted between July and August 2015 and included original works published between 2010 and 2015 in English, Portuguese and Spanish. The Cochrane strategy was also adopted for the prepa¬ration of the review. Twenty-seven articles were studied that compared the quality of life of the elderly before and after performing a physical, ed¬ucational or mixed-type intervention. The main result obtained was that the general health, social function, physical role and satisfaction with life are the most influenced domains, whereby group physical activities are practiced the most. The con¬clusion drawn is that when carrying out activities of any kind, preferably adapted for age, there are changes in the quality of life of the elderly in a general manner, notably with an improvement in functional, mental and social aspects

A GESTÃO SOCIAL COMO TEMA INTEGRADOR DE ENSINO, PESQUISA E EXTENSÃO NA UNIVERSIDADE BRASILEIRA

Com a ampliação dos níveis de responsabilidade das universidades, especialmente quanto à efetividade da formação global dos profissionais, uma análise institucional sobre as matrizes curriculares, projetos de extensão e ainda no âmbito das pesquisas fomentadas, se faz necessária. Este trabalho tem o objetivo de analisar a adoção da “gestão social” como tema de integração pedagógica na formação do profissional de nível superior contemporâneo, a fim de elevar a efetividade das ações da universidadejunto à sociedade. A pesquisa do tipo explicativa perpassa pela exploração dos conceitos de gestão social a partir da teoria crítica da Escola de Frankfurt, descreve o fenômeno do aumento das responsabilidades atribuídas à universidade, inclusive destacando contribuições teóricas e experiências relevantes das universidades brasileiras para fundamentar a defesa do tema “gestão social” como importante direcionamento formativo, independentemente da área do conhecimento e do curso superior

Efeitos da substituição parcial do agregado miúdo por cinza de madeira de eucalipto nas propriedades das argamassas

O desenvolvimento da avicultura de corte no Brasil tem causado um considerável aumento na demanda pelos combustíveis utilizados para aquecimento do ambiente interno das granjas. Dentre esses, destaca-se a lenha de eucalipto, que ao ser queimada produz cinzas residuais que muitas vezes não recebem destinação adequada. Nesse contexto, o uso da cinza de madeira de eucalipto (CME) em substituição parcial à areia natural em argamassas foi investigado. As areias utilizadas foram separadas em três frações granulométricas da areia normal, avaliando-se a massa específica, massa unitária, superfície específica e teor de matéria orgânica. As argamassas foram produzidas com traço 1:3, em volume, com índice de consistência fixado em 250 ± 10mm e teores de substituição de 0, 10 e 20% da areia natural por CME. No estado fresco, as argamassas foram avaliadas quanto à massa específica e, em estado endurecido, quanto à absorção de água, massa específica, índice de vazios e resistência à compressão axial. Os ensaios realizados indicaram a viabilidade técnica da substituição da areia natural por CME em teores de até 10% de seu volume, sem prejuízo significativo às propriedades avaliadas

Aspects Related to Venous Ulcer Healing and its Influence on Quality of Life

Nowadays, the varicose ulcers (VUs) are one of the most worrying leg ulcers and are an important global health problem, with high costs related to the treatment and its complications. Moreover, the quality of life (QOL) of the patient could be affected by pain, sleep disorders, functional impairment, depression, and isolation. The VU patient care is complex, and it is necessary to know the aspects that contribute to the healing process for developing effective strategies. The members of the multidisciplinary health team should identify sociodemographic, clinical, and care aspects that interfere in tissue repair and therefore impacting the QOL. Self-efficacy, adherence to treatment, and self-esteem are other important aspects also related to healing and QOL, with implications for health care and the multidisciplinary team. To sum up, the use of multidisciplinary protocols allows the systematization of care for people with VUs in order to standardize therapeutic interventions with the aim to decrease the healing process time and, as a consequence, to improve the QOL

ESTUDOS REALIZADOS SOBRE O TEMA RESPONSABILIDADE SOCIAL: uma visão do comportamento da produção bibliográfica

O  assunto responsabilidade social vem sendo debatido há mais de oito décadas, inicialmente, a nível internacional e a partir dos anos 90 no Brasil, constituindo-se sob diversos enfoques e interesses de diferentes agentes. O presente artigo teve como objetivo mostrar o desenvolvimento desta produção bibliográfica no campo da gestão, mapeando especificamente trabalhos nacionais e internacionais resultantes de estudos publicados no período de 2007 a 2022, em periódicos nacionais e internacionais. Foram analisados os indicadores de  autoria, objetivos, metodologia, campo de aplicação  e  conclusões destes estudos. Os resultados da análise mostraram que o tema se apresenta de forma dinâmica e multidisciplinar e que há necessidade de aperfeiçoamento do conceito.  Verifica-se ainda, nos estudos que há variadas concepções do conceito que varia desde filantropia até sustentabilidade, sendo discutido em pesquisas mais recentes  indicadores para implantação e mensuração  de ações socialmente responsáveis  de forma que a teoria seja aliada a prática. Com estes procedimentos  se contribui  para com  a inovação sobre o tema, despertando dessa forma o interesse de pesquisadores bem como empresas e ou organizações na implantação de ações perenes

METANÁLISE DE PUBLICAÇÕES SOBRE RESPONSABILIDADE SOCIAL SOB A LENTE DA SUSTENTABILIDADE

It is possible to note in the literature that among the authors there is concern regarding the paradigms present in the subject of social responsibility. It developed the concept from the capital perspective at the height of the industrial revolution. However, society has undergone significant economic, environmental, and social changes. This aims to analyze the scientific production to identify the approaches of the articles produced. Metanalysis, bibliometrics, and descriptive statistics have been used with cross-tabulation to analyze the collected data. From the results, there is a gap in the literature to be filled on the topic which is the use of strategic elements for implementing social responsibility actions sustainablyRESUMEN: Se nota en la literatura que existe preocupación de los autores relacionada con paradigmas para el sujeto responsabilidad social. El concepto se desarrolló desde la perspectiva del capital en el apogeo de la revolución industrial. Sin embargo, la sociedad ha experimentado importantes cambios económicos, ambientales y sociales. Así, el objetivo es analizar la producción científica para identificar los enfoques de los artículos producidos. Se utilizó metaanálisis, bibliometría y estadística descriptiva, con tabulación cruzada para analizar los datos recolectados. De los resultados se desprende que existe un vacío en la literatura a llenar sobre el tema, que es el uso de elementos estratégicos para la implementación de acciones de responsabilidad social sustentableNota-se na literatura que há inquietação dos autores relacionados  a  paradigmas para o assunto responsabilidade social. O conceito foi desenvolvido sobre perspectivas do capital no auge da revolução industrial. No entanto a sociedade passou por mudanças significativas de ordem econômica , ambiental e  social. Com isto objetiva-se analisar a produção científica com a finalidade de identificar as abordagens dos artigos produzidos.Utilizou-se de metanalise,  bibliometria e estatística descritiva, com a realização de  tabulação cruzada para análise dos dados coletados. Dos resultados, verifica-se que há uma lacuna na literatura a ser preenchida sobre o tema que é a utilização de elementos estratégicos  para a implantação de ações de responsabilidade social  de forma que sejam sustentáveis
