This editorial closes the four-year term of the current Editorial Board. It presents the contents of volume 75, the 25th since Trabajos de Prehistoria became a semestral peer-reviewed journal. Both numbers of vol. 75 combine articles accepted in the course of normal business with invited manuscripts. The latter address the current state of prehistoric research in the Iberian Peninsula as seen from abroad, as well as presenting the results of major projects carried by prehistorian of the Institute of History in the Spanish National Research Council. It assesses the degree of professionalism and the international impact of the work that falls within the journal’s scope of interest. The volume is dedicated to its founder, Martín Almagro Basch.

Processual archaeologists have been reluctant to address the nature of prehistoric property regimes. Ethnological evidence suggests a predictable development of such regimes over the evolutionary range of human societies. Examination of patterns of elite expenditure and household consumption can be used to evaluate such evolutionary scenarios in concrete cases.

Dolores Fernández-Posse

The scholarly trajectory of Mª Dolores Fernández- Posse involved an ongoing process of critical observation, reflection, and change that is quite rare in Archaeology. Her change from normativism to a historically informed functionalism is representative of the general evolution of Spanish archaeological studies over the course of the past thirty years. What is unusual about Fernández-Posse -and attests to her straightforward and unassuming intelligence- is that she herself changed her mind and voiced that change with clarity and humor.

The historically documented importance of seafaring commerce has served as a charter for the interpretation of Mediterranean prehistory. Within the normativist framework that prevailed until recently, any similarity in the particulars of archaelogical assemblages could be proof of a commerce of ideas. By limiting the notion of commerce t0 quantifiable exchanges, processualists have argued for the autonomous development of each region within the prehistoric Mediterranean, a perhaps excessively restricted view. World-systems approaches offer the opportunity to give processual weight to intersocietal contacts, but only are successful when the social and economic structure of both center and periphery is adequately understood.

Bioimpedance markers and tuberculosis outcome among HIV-infected patients

ackground: The changes in body composition markers (weight, fat mass, lean mass, and BMI) over time can be associated with TB treatment outcome among HIV-infected patients. The aim of this study was to investigate whether changes in fat mass and lean mass were associated with the treatment response among patients with HIV infection and pulmonary tuberculosis. Materials and Methods: This was a prospective cohort study. Data from HIV-infected patients commencing TB therapy were analyzed. This included body weight measurement using bioimpedance equipment at baseline, one month, and two months after starting TB treatment. Results: The study was conducted in 125 patients, 17 patients (13.6%) died during treatment, of which 5 died during the first month of treatment, 4 during the second month and 8 after the second month. The group of patients with good response, increased their weight by 1.3 kg (p <0.001) at the end of the first month of TB treatment and 2.6 kg in the second month (p <0.001), and body fat increase was 1.2 Kg (p <0.001) and 2.3 kg (p <0.001), the first and second month respectively. The group of patients who died had lost 2.1 kg fat mass after the first month (p <0.001) and 3.7 kg in the second month (p <0.001). Conclusions: Our results show that the weight change during TB treatment (increased fat mass) helps us predict therapeutic response. Weight loss during the first month of starting therapy should be evaluated thoroughly to identify the probable cause of treatment failure.Revisión por pare

Rural-to-Urban Migration: Socioeconomic Status But Not Acculturation was Associated with Overweight/Obesity Risk.

To investigate whether socioeconomic status (SES) and acculturation predict overweight/obesity risk as well as the mediating effect of physical activity (PA) in the context of internal migration. Cross-sectional study of 587 rural-to-urban migrants participating in the PERU MIGRANT study. Analyses were conducted using logistic regression and structured equation modeling. Interaction effects of SES and acculturation were tested. Models were controlled for age, gender and education. Only SES was a significant predictor of overweight/obesity risk. Lower SES decreased the odds of being overweight/obese by 51.4 %. This association did not vary by gender nor was it explained by PA. Mechanisms underlying the relationship between SES and overweight/obesity may differ depending on the geographic location and sociocultural context of the population studied. Research on internal migration and health would benefit from the development of tailored acculturation measures and the evaluation of exploratory models that include diet
