Preparation of β-morpholino propionic acid and related compounds

Thesis (M.A.)--Boston UniversityIt has been found that morpholine behaves like a typical secondary amine insofar as addition to unsaturated carbonyl compounds is concerned. It adds readily to methyl acrylate to form the ester of β-4-morpholine propionic acid. Originally it was intended to prepare a series of esters containing the morpholine ring by analogous reactions, but so much time was spent in preparing, purifying, and identifying the ester that this idea was not fulfilled. The main accomplishment of this thesis has been to add to the long list of organic compounds the following nitrogen-containing compounds: 1. Methyl β-4-mcrpholine propionate 2. " " " hydrochloride 3. β-4-morpholine propionic acid 4. " " " hydrochloride 5. Ammonium β-4-morpholine propionate 6. N(β-4-morpholine propionyl)morpholine 7. " " " picrate It is felt, from evidence in the literature, that at least some of the compounds prepared should possess physiological ectivity

Die neue ZHAW Hochschulbibliothek in Winterthur : Eine aktivitätsbasierte Raumkonzeption der Lernlandschaft

In atemberaubend kurzer Zeit entstand mit der neuen Hochschulbibliothek der Zürcher Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften (ZHAW) in Winterthur eine der modernsten Fachhochschulbibliotheken Europas. Der neue Bibliotheksstandort befindet sich in einem denkmalgeschützten Industriegebäude und weist rund 4 620 Quadratmeter Bruttonutzfläche auf. Zusätzlich entstand eine Lernlandschaft von über 1 700 Quadratmetern. Ihre aktivitätsorientierte Konzipierung sowie ihr Betrieb und erste Erfahrungen bilden einen Schwerpunkt dieses Beitrags.This article describes the building project of the new university library at the Zurich University for Applied Sciences (ZHAW). In an extremely short amount of time one of the most state-of-the-art university libraries in Europe has come to life. The new library which measures approximately 4 620 square metres was built inside a historical, listed industrial facility. It includes a learning landscape of more than 1 700 square metres. Its activitybased conception and operation, as well as first impressions, are the core theme of this article
