    Tracking of Hepatopancreatic parvo-like virus (HPV) disease in Litopenaeus vannamei of the hatcheries in the Bushehr Province

    Presence of hepatopancreatic parvo-like vines (HPV) disease was assessed from June until October 2009 in Litopenaeus vannamei hatcheries and grow-out farms of the Bushehr province. Samples were collected from 6 hatcheries and 6 grow-out farms located in coasted areas. From each hatchery, 100 PL samples with average age PL5-PL8 and 20-30 samples from each grow-out farm with average age 105 to 120 days were collected. The samples were divided into three groups one used for gross sign and wet mount with Gimsa, the second group was preserved in Davidson Fixative and used for histopathology and the third group was fixed in ethyl alcohol 95% and used for polymerase chain Reaction (PCR). In gross sign 30%- 40% of the shrimp showed different sizes and some were smaller than the others. In the wet mount group with Gimsa staining of hepatopancrease, the inclusion body with basophilic color was seen. The histopathology indicated that the hepatopancreatic cell was infected and the basophilic inclusion body observed in many samples. The PCR examined with IQ 2000 Kit was negative. The rate of infection (ROI) was 1.1% for hatcheries and 32% for grow-out farms

    High CO2 absorption in new amine based-transition-temperature mixtures (deep eutectic analogues) and reporting thermal stability, viscosity and surface tension: Response surface methodology (RSM)

    To study CO2 capture potential, three types of transition-temperature mixtures (TTMs) were prepared by mixing ethyltriphenylphosphonium bromide (MTPPB) as a hydrogen bond acceptor (HBA) and n-methyl diethanolamine (MDEA) as a hydrogen bond donor (HBD) in different molar ratios (1:7, 1:10 and 1:16). Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) results showed that TTMs have almost similar spectra to their HBD (MDEA) with different levels of transmittance and exhibit similar behavior. From the experimental results, it was found that the thermal stability, viscosity and surface tension of TTMs decreased as the concentration of MDEA in the mixture increased. According to response surface methodology (RSM) models and analysis of variance (ANOVA), temperature and molar ratio had a great effect on the viscosity and surface tension of TTMs. Finally, it was found that CO2 solubility in TTMs (at 303.15 K at pressure up to 1.35 MPa) was enhanced as the MDEA quantity increased in the mixture up to 1:10 mol ratio. However, by increasing MDEA concentration to 16:1 mol ratio, there was a decreasing trend in the CO2 solubility data. Also, all TTMs, particularly TTM containing 10:1 mol MDEA (MTPPB-MDEA 1:10) exhibited an equilibrium loading capacity approaching 1 mol CO2 per mole solvent at high pressure, revealing their high potential for CO2 capture. A comparison showed that the CO2 solubility in the studied solvents was higher than that of existing deep eutectic solvents (DESs) and other TTMs as well as several ionic liquids (ILs) to date.     Genetic Variants of Cytochrome b-245, Alpha Polypeptide Gene and Premature Acute Myocardial Infarction Risk in An Iranian Population

    Background: Oxidative stress induced by superoxide anion plays critical roles in the pathogenesis of coronary artery disease (CAD) and hence acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The major source of superoxide production in vascular smooth muscle and endothelial cells is the NADPH oxidase complex. An essential component of this complex is p22phox, that is encoded by the cytochrome b-245, alpha polypeptide (CYBA) gene. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of CYBA variants (rs1049255 and rs4673) and premature acute myocardial infarction risk in an Iranian population. Methods: The study population consisted of 158 patients under the age of 50 years, with a diagnosis of premature AMI, and 168 age-matched controls with normal coronary angiograms. Genotyping of the polymorphisms was performed by the polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). Results: There was no association between the genotypes and allele frequencies of rs4673 polymorphism and premature acute myocardial infarction (P>0.05). A significant statistical association was observed between the genotypes distribution of rs1049255 polymorphism and AMI risk (P=0.037). Furthermore, the distribution of AA+AG/GG genotypes was found to be statistically significant between the two groups (P=0.011). Conclusions: Our findings indicated that rs1049255 but not rs4673 polymorphism is associated with premature AMI

    Potassium carbonate-based ternary transition temperature mixture (deep eutectic analogues) for CO2 absorption: characterizations and DFT analysis

    Is it possible to improve CO2 solubility in potassium carbonate (K2CO3)-based transition temperature mixtures (TTMs)? To assess this possibility, a ternary transition-temperature mixture (TTTM) was prepared by using a hindered amine, 2-amino-2-methyl-1,3-propanediol (AMPD). Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) was employed to detect the functional groups including hydroxyl, amine, carbonate ion, and aliphatic functional groups in the prepared solvents. From thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), it was found that the addition of AMPD to the binary mixture can increase the thermal stability of TTTM. The viscosity findings showed that TTTM has a higher viscosity than TTM while their difference was decreased by increasing temperature. In addition, Eyring’s absolute rate theory was used to compute the activation parameters (∆G*, ∆H*, and ∆S*). The CO2 solubility in liquids was measured at a temperature of 303.15 K and pressures up to 1.8 MPa. The results disclosed that the CO2 solubility of TTTM was improved by the addition of AMPD. At the pressure of about 1.8 MPa, the CO2 mole fractions of TTM and TTTM were 0.1697 and 0.2022, respectively. To confirm the experimental data, density functional theory (DFT) was employed. From the DFT analysis, it was found that the TTTM + CO2 system has higher interaction energy (|∆E|) than the TTM + CO2 system indicating the higher CO2 affinity of the former system. This study might help scientists to better understand and to improve CO2 solubility in these types of solvents by choosing a suitable amine as HBD and finding the best combination of HBA and HBD

    Inhibitory Effect of Polyclonal Antibodies Against HER3 Extracellular Subdomains on Breast Cancer Cell Lines

    OBJECTIVE: Human epidermal growth factor receptor 3 (HER3) is a unique member of the tyrosine kinase receptors with an inactive kinase domain and is the preferable dimerization partner for HER2 which lead to potent tumorigenic signaling. METHODS: In this study, the expression plasmids coding for the human HER3 subdomains were transfected into CHO-K1 cells. Produced proteins were characterized by ELISA and SDS-PAGE. Rabbits were immunized and produced polyclonal antibodies (pAbs) that were characterized by ELISA, Immunoblotting and flowcytometry and their inhibitory effects were assessed by XTT on BT-474 and JIMT-1 breast cancer cell lines. RESULT: The recombinant subdomains were highly immunogenic in rabbits. The pAbs reacted with the recombinant subdomains as well as commercial HER3 and the native receptor on tumor cell membranes and could significantly inhibit growth of Trastuzumab sensitive (BT-474) and resistant (JIMT-1) breast cancer cell lines in vitro. CONCLUSION: It seems that HER3 extra cellular domains (ECD) induce a strong anti-tumor antibody response and may prove to be potentially useful for immunotherapeutic applications.

    Evaluation of sperm quality and different nutrient levels on sperm efficiency in male rainbow trout

    Considering the importance of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) in supplying required protein of people and effort to increase the efficiency of these fish reproduction, some related factors such as sperm quality and potential fertility of male are necessary. The aim of this study was to find out the effects of different dosages of Arginine on the biochemical parameters (including LDH, AST, ALT, ALP, iron, magnesium, phosphorous, chloride, calcium, sodium, Potassium, cholesterol, uric acid, urea, fructose, glucose, total protein and pH) of rainbow trout seminal plasma. For this purpose, five practical diets (each consisting of 3 triplicates) were supplemented with Arginine at 0.00 (Control), 0.50, 1.00, 1.50 and 2.00%. Broodstock feed last for 90 days. At the end of the feeding period one fish was captured from each replicate in order to collect their semen. Results indicate that there were no significant differences in LDH, ALP, Fe^2+ and P content among different treatments. The lowest level of AST and ALT and the highest level of Ca^2+ and Mg^2+ ions were observed in the treatment fed with 1.50% of Arginine which showed significant differences with other treatments (p<0.05). Moreover, the amount of Cl^-, Na^+ and K^+ ions were significantly increased in the seminal plasma in fish which were fed on diets containing arginine in comparison to control. As the amount of Arginine were increased, the levels of uric acid stepped up significantly in contrast to the urea and glucose. The highest amounts of cholesterol, fructose and total protein were observed in the treatments fed on 2.00, 0.50 and 1.00% of Arginine, respectively, that showed significant differences with other treatments (p<0.05). The highest pH value was assayed in the 1.50% of Arginine treatment. The results of the Pearson correlation coefficient showed a significant positive correlation between Ca^2+ and Mg^2+ ions and Na^+ with K^+ and Clions (r=0.750, r=0.769 and r= 0.938, p<0.01), respectively. On the other hand, a significant negative correlation between cholesterol with Cl^-, Na^+, K^+, ALT and LDH (r=- 0.764, r=-0.724 and r=-0.728, p<0.01) and (r=-0.531 and r=-0.560, p<0.05) and also a significant positive correlation between K^+ and Clions (r=0.836, p<0.01) were observed. Finally, it can be expressed that the levels of most of the ions were increased and there was a reduction in the levels of enzymes in seminal plasma of fish which were fed with practical diet including 1.5% of Arginine. So it can be recommended that adding this value of Arginine to the diets of rainbow trout broodstock, would improve the sperm quality which results in the enhancement of efficiency in rainbow trout reproduction

    A kinetic and thermodynamic investigation into the removal of methyl orange from wastewater utilizing fly ash in different process configurations

    The removal of methyl orange using coal fly ash, which is a widely available low-cost adsorbent, has been investigated. Adsorption studies for dye removal were conducted using various configurations such as batch, column and heap adsorption at various temperatures and adsorbent dosages at neutral pH. The Langmuir, Freundlich and Tempkin isotherm models were used to describe the process. The Freundlich model best represented the adsorption. Kinetic studies show the adsorption followed pseudo-second-order kinetics. Thermodynamic studies show that the process is spontaneous, endothermic and random. Column configuration was found to be the most efficient with a dye removal percentage of 99.95%, followed by heap adsorption at 99.25% removal and lastly batch configuration with 96.68% removal. Economic analysis shows that column operation would be the most effective for practical implementation

    Change in quality of life and their predictors in the long-term follow-up after group cognitive behavioral therapy for social anxiety disorder: a prospective cohort study

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Social anxiety disorder (SAD) is one of the most common anxiety disorders. The efficacy of cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) has been examined but to date its effects on Quality of Life (QoL) have not been appropriately evaluated especially in the long term.</p> <p>The study aimed to examine, in the long term, what aspects of Quality of Life (QoL) changed among social anxiety disorder (SAD) patients treated with group cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and what predictors at baseline were associated with QoL.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Outpatients diagnosed with SAD were enrolled into group CBT, and assessed at follow-ups for up to 12 months in a typical clinical setting. QoL was evaluated using the Short Form 36. Various aspects of SAD symptomatology were also assessed. Each of the QoL domains and scores on symptomatology were quantified and compared with those at baseline. Baseline predictors of QoL outcomes at follow-up were investigated.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Fifty-seven outpatients were enrolled into group CBT for SAD, 48 completed the whole program, and 44 and 40 completed assessments at the 3-month and 12-month follow-ups, respectively. All aspects of SAD symptomatology and psychological subscales of the QoL showed statistically significant improvement throughout follow-ups for up to 12 months. In terms of social functioning, no statistically significant improvement was observed at either follow-up point except for post-treatment. No consistently significant pre-treatment predictors were observed.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>After group CBT, SAD symptomatology and some aspects of QoL improved and this improvement was maintained for up to 12 months, but the social functioning domain did not prove any significant change statistically. Considering the limited effects of CBT on QoL, especially for social functioning, more powerful treatments are needed.</p
