    A bibliographic analysis of transformer literature 1990-2000

    This paper presents an analysis of the bibliography on transformers covering the period from 1990 to 2000. It contains all the transformer subjects: a) Transformer design, b) Transformer protection, c) Transformer connections, d) Transformer diagnostics, e) Transformer failures, f) Transient analysis of transformers (overvoltages, overcurrents), g) Modeling and analysis of transformer using FEM (thermal modeling, losses modeling, insulation modeling, windings modeling). Several international journals were investigated including the following: Advances in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Canadian Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering, COMPEL (The International Journal for Computation and Mathematics in Electrical and Electronic Engineering), Electrical Engineering, Electric Power Components and Systems, Electric Power Systems Research, European Transactions on Electrical Power, IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, International Journal of Electrical Power and Energy Systems, and IET Generation Transmission & Distribution. Due to the high number of publication in journals, we are not considering publications of conferences and symposia. A total of 700 publications are analyzed in this paper. The research presented in this paper is important because it contains and analyzes the best research papers on transformers coming from many countries all over the world and published in top rated scientific electrical engineering journals

    Effect of Distributed Photovoltaic Generation on the Voltage Magnitude in a Self-Contained Power Supply System

    A promising way to increase the technical and economic characteristics of standalone power supply systems is to incorporate renewable energy installations in their structure. This saves fuel and extends the operational life of diesel power stations. The most common option is a hybrid system with photovoltaic power stations incorporated into the local network of the diesel power station. This paper deals with the dependence of the deflection voltage and power losses in the electric power transmission line on the graphs of electrical loads, the parameters of elements of the power supply system, connection points and the capacity of distributed photovoltaic power stations. Research has been carried out on the common low-voltage power supply systems of the radial type (0.4 kV) with an installed capacity of up to 100 kW. The studies have been conducted by simulating the operating modes of hybrid power systems of various configurations. As a result of these studies recommendations to reduce losses and voltage variations in the network by selecting the power and photovoltaic power connection points have been put forward

    Metaheuristics for Transmission Network Expansion Planning

    This chapter presents the characteristics of the metaheuristic algorithms used to solve the transmission network expansion planning (TNEP) problem. The algorithms used to handle single or multiple objectives are discussed on the basis of selected literature contributions. Besides the main objective given by the costs of the transmission system infrastructure, various other objectives are taken into account, representing generation, demand, reliability and environmental aspects. In the single-objective case, many metaheuristics have been proposed, in general without making strong comparisons with other solution methods and without providing superior results with respect to classical mathematical programming. In the multi-objective case, there is a better convenience of using metaheuristics able to handle conflicting objectives, in particular with a Pareto front-based approach. In all cases, improvements are still expected in the definition of benchmark functions, benchmark networks and robust comparison criteria

    Wind Power Persistence Characterized by Superstatistics

    Mitigating climate change demands a transition towards renewable electricity generation, with wind power being a particularly promising technology. Long periods either of high or of low wind therefore essentially define the necessary amount of storage to balance the power system. While the general statistics of wind velocities have been studied extensively, persistence (waiting) time statistics of wind is far from well understood. Here, we investigate the statistics of both high- and low-wind persistence. We find heavy tails and explain them as a superposition of different wind conditions, requiring q-exponential distributions instead of exponential distributions. Persistent wind conditions are not necessarily caused by stationary atmospheric circulation patterns nor by recurring individual weather types but may emerge as a combination of multiple weather types and circulation patterns. This also leads to Fréchet instead of Gumbel extreme value statistics. Understanding wind persistence statistically and synoptically may help to ensure a reliable and economically feasible future energy system, which uses a high share of wind generation

    Interdependence between transportation system and power distribution system: a comprehensive review on models and applications

    The rapidly increasing penetration of electric vehicles in modern metropolises has been witnessed during the past decade, inspired by financial subsidies as well as public awareness of climate change and environment protection. Integrating charging facilities, especially high-power chargers in fast charging stations, into power distribution systems remarkably alters the traditional load flow pattern, and thus imposes great challenges on the operation of distribution network in which controllable resources are rare. On the other hand, provided with appropriate incentives, the energy storage capability of electric vehicle offers a unique opportunity to facilitate the integration of distributed wind and solar power generation into power distribution system. The above trends call for thorough investigation and research on the interdependence between transportation system and power distribution system. This paper conducts a comprehensive survey on this line of research. The basic models of transportation system and power distribution system are introduced, especially the user equilibrium model, which describes the vehicular flow on each road segment and is not familiar to the readers in power system community. The modelling of interdependence across the two systems is highlighted. Taking into account such interdependence, applications ranging from long-term planning to short-term operation are reviewed with emphasis on comparing the description of traffic-power interdependence. Finally, an outlook of prospective directions and key technologies in future research is summarized.fi=vertaisarvioitu|en=peerReviewed
