Social axioms, cultural dimensions and personal autonomy in Romanian educational field

    Get PDF
AbstractOur research is dealing with the topic of social axioms in the educational area, examining the way in which different subscales of social axioms and cultural dimensions from Hofstede's model could be related with personal autonomy, measured through self-esteem, locus of control and self-determination. The sample is composed by 522 subjects from Timisoara (253 from lower and higher secondary school and 269 from universities). The teachers from universities have shown significantly higher scores of social cynicism, power-distance, rewards for application and religiosity than the teacher from secondary schools. The similar and contradictory trend could be indentified for the young cohorts of teachers, comparative with the older ones

A Synthetic Loop Replacement Peptide That Blocks Canonical NFâ κB Signaling

Aberrant canonical NFâ κB signaling is implicated in diseases from autoimmune disorders to cancer. A major therapeutic challenge is the need for selective inhibition of the canonical pathway without impacting the many nonâ canonical NFâ κB functions. Here we show that a selective peptideâ based inhibitor of canonical NFâ κB signaling, in which a hydrogen bond in the NBD peptide is synthetically replaced by a nonâ labile bond, shows an about 10â fold increased potency relative to the original inhibitor. Not only is this molecule, NBD2, a powerful tool for dissection of canonical NFâ κB signaling in disease models and healthy tissues, the success of the synthetic loop replacement suggests that the general strategy could be useful for discovering modulators of the many proteinâ protein interactions mediated by such structures. Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/135091/1/ange201607990-sup-0001-misc_information.pdfhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/135091/2/ange201607990.pd

Iterative Assembly of Macrocyclic Lactones using Successive Ring Expansion Reactions

    Get PDF
Macrocyclic lactones can be prepared from lactams and hydroxyacid derivatives via an efficient 3- or 4-atom iterative ring expansion protocol. The products can also be expanded using amino acid-based linear fragments, meaning that macrocycles with precise sequences of hydroxy- and amino acids can be assembled in high yields by 'growing' them from smaller rings, using a simple procedure in which high dilution is not required. The method should significantly expedite the practical synthesis of diverse nitrogen containing macrolide frameworks
