Digital Outburst: The Expression of a Social Crisis through Online Social Networks
There is a growing concern about the effects that the relationship between the activity of society in the physical world and in the digital world could have. In this study, we address this question in a context of social crisis. Our quantitative and qualitative analysis of the data associated with the critical process suggests a deep and nontrivial relationship between both worlds. Perhaps the most important result refers to the leading role of language, its meaning, and symbolism in the development of social transformation processes linked to the complexity of the social system and its adaptive nature.Fil: Cárdenas, Juan Pablo. DESCRIPCIÓN DE PARÁSITOS PRESENTES EN MUESTRAS FECALES RECOLECTADAS EN PLAZAS DEL SECTOR CÉNTRICO DE LA CIUDAD DE TEMUCO, CHILE
The aim of this study was to determine the level of contamination of public plazas in the city of Temuco with parasitic forms through dog faeces. A total of 102 faecal samples were collected in eight plazas of the city centre. Samples were processed by the sedimentation-flotation method (Teuscher method). The 89.2% of the samples resulted positive for a parasitic form, where strongyle-type eggs (69.6%) within the Phylum Nematoda and the oocysts of Isospora within the Phylum Protozoa (6.8%) were the most frequent. Half of the samples were poliparasitic where the triparasitism reached 21.5% of all samples. The findings indicate a polluted environment and poor waste management in the city center.El objetivo del estudio fue determinar la contaminación de plazas públicas de la ciudad de Temuco con formas parasitarias a través de las heces de perros. Supernova 2010ev: A reddened high velocity gradient type Ia supernova
Aims. We present and study the spectroscopic and photometric evolution of the
type Ia supernova (SN Ia) 2010ev. Methods. We obtain and analyze multi-band
optical light curves and optical-near-infrared spectroscopy at low and medium
resolution spanning from -7 days to +300 days from the B-band maximum. Results.
A photometric analysis shows that SN 2010ev is a SN Ia of normal brightness
with a light curve shape of and a stretch s =
suffering significant reddening. From photometric and
spectroscopic analysis, we deduce a color excess of
and a reddening law of . Spectroscopically, SN 2010ev
belongs to the broad-line SN Ia group, showing stronger than average Si II
{\lambda}6355 absorption features. We also find that SN 2010ev is a
high-velocity gradient SN, with a value of km s d.
The photometric and spectral comparison with other supernovae shows that SN
2010ev has similar colors and velocities to SN 2002bo and SN 2002dj. The
analysis of the nebular spectra indicates that the [Fe II] {\lambda}7155 and
[Ni II] {\lambda}7378 lines are redshifted, as expected for a high velocity
gradient supernova. All these common intrinsic and extrinsic properties of the
high velocity gradient (HVG) group are different from the low velocity gradient
(LVG) normal SN Ia population and suggest significant variety in SN Ia
explosions.Comment: 16 pages, 13 figures, 7 tables. Accepted to A&
Kinetics of amorphization induced by swift heavy ions in α-quartz
The kinetics of amorphization in crystalline SiO2 (α-quartz) under irradiation with swift heavy ions (O+1 at 4 MeV, O+4 at 13 MeV, F+2 at 5 MeV, F+4 at 15 MeV, Cl+3 at 10 MeV, Cl+4 at 20 MeV, Br+5 at 15 and 25 MeV and Br+8 at 40 MeV) has been analyzed in this work with an Avrami-type law and also with a recently developed cumulative approach (track-overlap model). This latter model assumes a track morphology consisting of an amorphous core (area σ) and a surrounding defective halo (area h), both being axially symmetric. The parameters of the two approaches which provide the best fit to the experimental data have been obtained as a function of the electronic stopping power Se. The extrapolation of the σ(Se) dependence yields a threshold value for amorphization, Sth ≈ 2.1 keV/nm; a second threshold is also observed around 4.1 keV/nm. We believe that this double-threshold effect could be related to the appearance of discontinuous tracks in the region between 2.1 and 4.1 keV/nm. For stopping power values around or below the lower threshold, where the ratio h/σ is large, the track-overlap model provides a much better fit than the Avrami function. Therefore, the data show that a right modeling of the amorphization kinetics needs to take into account the contribution of the defective track halo. Finally, a short comparative discussion with the kinetic laws obtained for elastic collision damage is given
Process design for the manufacturing of soft X-ray gratings in single-crystal diamond by high-energy heavy-ion irradiation
The dataset that supports the findings of this study are archived in the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid data repository e‐cienciaDatos in https://doi.org/10.21950/ARZSJ1This paper describes in detail a novel manufacturing process for optical gratings suitable for use in the UV and soft X-ray regimes in a single-crystal diamond substrate based on highly focused swift heavy-ion irradiation. This type of grating is extensively used in light source facilities such as synchrotrons or free electron lasers, with ever-increasing demands in terms of thermal loads, depending on beamline operational parameters and architecture. The process proposed in this paper may be a future alternative to current manufacturing techniques, providing the advantage of being applicable to single-crystal diamond substrates, with their unique properties in terms of heat conductivity and radiation hardness. The paper summarizes the physical principle used for the grating patterns produced by swift heavy-ion irradiation and provides full details for the manufacturing process for a specific grating configuration, inspired in one of the beamlines at the ALBA synchrotron light source, while stressing the most challenging points for a potential implementation. Preliminary proof-of-concept experimental results are presented, showing the practical implementation of the methodology proposed herei

SN 2009bb: a Peculiar Broad-Lined Type Ic Supernova
Ultraviolet, optical, and near-infrared photometry and optical spectroscopy
of the broad-lined Type Ic supernova (SN) 2009bb are presented, following the
flux evolution from -10 to +285 days past B-band maximum. Thanks to the very
early discovery, it is possible to place tight constraints on the SN explosion
epoch. The expansion velocities measured from near maximum spectra are found to
be only slightly smaller than those measured from spectra of the prototype
broad-lined SN 1998bw associated with GRB 980425. Fitting an analytical model
to the pseudo-bolometric light curve of SN 2009bb suggests that 4.1+-1.9 Msun
of material was ejected with 0.22 +-0.06 Msun of it being 56Ni. The resulting
kinetic energy is 1.8+-0.7x10^52 erg. This, together with an absolute peak
magnitude of MB=-18.36+-0.44, places SN 2009bb on the energetic and luminous
end of the broad-lined Type Ic (SN Ic) sequence. Detection of helium in the
early time optical spectra accompanied with strong radio emission, and high
metallicity of its environment makes SN 2009bb a peculiar object. Similar to
the case for GRBs, we find that the bulk explosion parameters of SN 2009bb
cannot account for the copious energy coupled to relativistic ejecta, and
conclude that another energy reservoir (a central engine) is required to power
the radio emission. Nevertheless, the analysis of the SN 2009bb nebular
spectrum suggests that the failed GRB detection is not imputable to a large
angle between the line-of-sight and the GRB beamed radiation. Therefore, if a
GRB was produced during the SN 2009bb explosion, it was below the threshold of
the current generation of gamma-ray instruments.Comment: Accepted for publication in Ap
