Defeasible Logic Programming: An Argumentative Approach
The work reported here introduces Defeasible Logic Programming (DeLP), a
formalism that combines results of Logic Programming and Defeasible
Argumentation. DeLP provides the possibility of representing information in the
form of weak rules in a declarative manner, and a defeasible argumentation
inference mechanism for warranting the entailed conclusions.
In DeLP an argumentation formalism will be used for deciding between
contradictory goals. Queries will be supported by arguments that could be
defeated by other arguments. A query q will succeed when there is an argument A
for q that is warranted, ie, the argument A that supports q is found undefeated
by a warrant procedure that implements a dialectical analysis.
The defeasible argumentation basis of DeLP allows to build applications that
deal with incomplete and contradictory information in dynamic domains. Thus,
the resulting approach is suitable for representing agent's knowledge and for
providing an argumentation based reasoning mechanism to agents.Comment: 43 pages, to appear in the journal "Theory and Practice of Logic

Plasmonics in Atomically Thin Materials
The observation and electrical manipulation of infrared surface plasmons in
graphene have triggered a search for similar photonic capabilities in other
atomically thin materials that enable electrical modulation of light at visible
and near-infrared frequencies, as well as strong interaction with optical
quantum emitters. Here, we present a simple analytical description of the
optical response of such kinds of structures, which we exploit to investigate
their application to light modulation and quantum optics. Specifically, we show
that plasmons in one-atom-thick noble-metal layers can be used both to produce
complete tunable optical absorption and to reach the strong-coupling regime in
the interaction with neighboring quantum emitters. Our methods are applicable
to any plasmon-supporting thin materials, and in particular, we provide
parameters that allow us to readily calculate the response of silver, gold, and
graphene islands. Besides their interest for nanoscale electro-optics, the
present study emphasizes the great potential of these structures for the design
of quantum nanophotonics devices.Comment: 15 pages, 5 figures, 107 ref

A Role for Pre-mRNA-PROCESSING PROTEIN 40C in the Control of Growth, Development, and Stress Tolerance in Arabidopsis thaliana
Because of their sessile nature, plants have adopted varied strategies for growing and reproducing in an ever-changing environment. Control of mRNA levels and pre-mRNA alternative splicing are key regulatory layers that contribute to adjust and synchronize plant growth and development with environmental changes. Transcription and alternative splicing are thought to be tightly linked and coordinated, at least in part, through a network of transcriptional and splicing regulatory factors that interact with the carboxyl-terminal domain (CTD) of the largest subunit of RNA polymerase II. One of the proteins that has been shown to play such a role in yeast and mammals is pre-mRNA-PROCESSING PROTEIN 40 (PRP40, also known as CA150, or TCERG1). In plants, members of the PRP40 family have been identified and shown to interact with the CTD of RNA Pol II, but their biological functions remain unknown. Here, we studied the role of AtPRP40C, in Arabidopsis thaliana growth, development and stress tolerance, as well as its impact on the global regulation of gene expression programs. We found that the prp40c knockout mutants display a late-flowering phenotype under long day conditions, associated with minor alterations in red light signaling. An RNA-seq based transcriptome analysis revealed differentially expressed genes related to biotic stress responses and also differentially expressed as well as differentially spliced genes associated with abiotic stress responses. Indeed, the characterization of stress responses in prp40c mutants revealed an increased sensitivity to salt stress and an enhanced tolerance to Pseudomonas syringae pv. maculicola (Psm) infections. This constitutes the most thorough analysis of the transcriptome of a prp40 mutant in any organism, as well as the first characterization of the molecular and physiological roles of a member of the PRP40 protein family in plants. Our results suggest that PRP40C is an important factor linking the regulation of gene expression programs to the modulation of plant growth, development, and stress responses.Fil: Hernando, Carlos Esteban. Keystroke Biometrics in Response to Fake News Propagation in a Global Pandemic
This work proposes and analyzes the use of keystroke biometrics for content
de-anonymization. Fake news have become a powerful tool to manipulate public
opinion, especially during major events. In particular, the massive spread of
fake news during the COVID-19 pandemic has forced governments and companies to
fight against missinformation. In this context, the ability to link multiple
accounts or profiles that spread such malicious content on the Internet while
hiding in anonymity would enable proactive identification and blacklisting.
Behavioral biometrics can be powerful tools in this fight. In this work, we
have analyzed how the latest advances in keystroke biometric recognition can
help to link behavioral typing patterns in experiments involving 100,000 users
and more than 1 million typed sequences. Our proposed system is based on
Recurrent Neural Networks adapted to the context of content de-anonymization.
Assuming the challenge to link the typed content of a target user in a pool of
candidate profiles, our results show that keystroke recognition can be used to
reduce the list of candidate profiles by more than 90%. In addition, when
keystroke is combined with auxiliary data (such as location), our system
achieves a Rank-1 identification performance equal to 52.6% and 10.9% for a
background candidate list composed of 1K and 100K profiles, respectively.Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:2004.0362
PART: Pre-trained Authorship Representation Transformer
Authors writing documents imprint identifying information within their texts:
vocabulary, registry, punctuation, misspellings, or even emoji usage. Finding
these details is very relevant to profile authors, relating back to their
gender, occupation, age, and so on. But most importantly, repeating writing
patterns can help attributing authorship to a text. Previous works use
hand-crafted features or classification tasks to train their authorship models,
leading to poor performance on out-of-domain authors. A better approach to this
task is to learn stylometric representations, but this by itself is an open
research challenge. In this paper, we propose PART: a contrastively trained
model fit to learn \textbf{authorship embeddings} instead of semantics. By
comparing pairs of documents written by the same author, we are able to
determine the proprietary of a text by evaluating the cosine similarity of the
evaluated documents, a zero-shot generalization to authorship identification.
To this end, a pre-trained Transformer with an LSTM head is trained with the
contrastive training method. We train our model on a diverse set of authors,
from literature, anonymous blog posters and corporate emails; a heterogeneous
set with distinct and identifiable writing styles. The model is evaluated on
these datasets, achieving zero-shot 72.39\% and 86.73\% accuracy and top-5
accuracy respectively on the joint evaluation dataset when determining
authorship from a set of 250 different authors. We qualitatively assess the
representations with different data visualizations on the available datasets,
profiling features such as book types, gender, age, or occupation of the
author
riesgo cardiovascular y comorbilidades
