Data on the working population in Spain related to training, workplace conditions and accident rates
Obtaining data on worker accident rates is necessary in order to analyze the causes and variables involved in the occurrence of said accidents. The majority of these data, collected after the accident occurs, do not consider the employee's working conditions. Here are presented the data on workplace accidents and the conditions of the workers by analyzing the generic data supplied as part of the 7th National Survey of Workplace Conditions (EWCS) in Spain, conducted in 2011. These data will yield the variables needed to determine if the information on workplace risks provided by the survey respondents has an appreciable effect on the occurrence of occupational accidents in the working population, and will also be used to explore other variables
The complex structure of HH 110 as revealed from Integral Field Spectroscopy
HH 110 is a rather peculiar Herbig-Haro object in Orion that originates due
to the deflection of another jet (HH 270) by a dense molecular clump, instead
of being directly ejected from a young stellar object. Here we present new
results on the kinematics and physical conditions of HH 110 based on Integral
Field Spectroscopy. The 3D spectral data cover the whole outflow extent (~4.5
arcmin, ~0.6 pc at a distance of 460 pc) in the spectral range 6500-7000 \AA.
We built emission-line intensity maps of H, [NII] and [SII] and of
their radial velocity channels. Furthermore, we analysed the spatial
distribution of the excitation and electron density from [NII]/H,
[SII]/H, and [SII] 6716/6731 integrated line-ratio maps, as well as
their behaviour as a function of velocity, from line-ratio channel maps. Our
results fully reproduce the morphology and kinematics obtained from previous
imaging and long-slit data. In addition, the IFS data revealed, for the first
time, the complex spatial distribution of the physical conditions (excitation
and density) in the whole jet, and their behaviour as a function of the
kinematics. The results here derived give further support to the more recent
model simulations that involve deflection of a pulsed jet propagating in an
inhomogeneous ambient medium. The IFS data give richer information than that
provided by current model simulations or laboratory jet experiments. Hence,
they could provide valuable clues to constrain the space parameters in future
theoretical works.Comment: 12 pages, 15 figures Accepted in MNRA
Integral Field Spectroscopy of HH 262: The Spectral Atlas
HH 262 is a group of emitting knots displaying an "hour-glass" morphology in
the Halpha and [SII] lines, located 3.5' to the northeast of the young stellar
object L1551-IRS5, in Taurus. We present new results of the kinematics and
physical conditions of HH 262 based on Integral Field Spectroscopy covering a
field of 1.5'x3', which includes all the bright knots in HH 262. These data
show complex kinematics and significant variations in physical conditions over
the mapped region of HH 262 on a spatial scale of <3". A new result derived
from the IFS data is the weakness of the [NII] emission (below detection limit
in most of the mapped region of HH 262), including the brightest central knots.
Our data reinforce the association of HH 262 with the redshifted lobe of the
evolved molecular outflow L1551-IRS5. The interaction of this outflow with a
younger one, powered by L1551 NE, around the position of HH 262 could give rise
to the complex morphology and kinematics of HH 262.Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRA
Contrasting human perceptions of and attitudes towards two threatened small carnivores, Lycalopex fulvipes and Leopardus guigna, in rural communities adjacent to protected areas in Chile
Indexación: Scopus. The interaction between humans and small carnivores is a phenomenon especially frequent in rural fringes, as is the case of communities surrounding natural areas. In Chile, two species of threatened carnivores, the Darwin's Fox and the Guigna, have increased their contact with humans due to human-induced changes in their habitat. The objective of this study was to characterize the interactions of these species with humans by assessing human perceptions and attitudes toward them, and to assess livestock and poultry ownership and management practices in local communities to evaluate their possible roles in the phenomenon. We conducted semi-structured interviews in rural communities adjacent to natural protected areas of two different regions in southern Chile. We found that people have a more positive perception of Darwin's Foxes than Guignas, but both species are considered damaging due to poultry attacks. Livestock and poultry management was generally deficient. Improvements in animal management and education programs could lead to a significant decrease in negative interactions. © Sacristan et al. 2018.https://www.threatenedtaxa.org/index.php/JoTT/article/view/4030/442
A Meiotic Checkpoint Alters Repair Partner Bias to Permit Inter-sister Repair of Persistent DSBs
Accurate meiotic chromosome segregation critically depends on the formation of inter-homolog crossovers initiated by double-strand breaks (DSBs). Inaccuracies in this process can drive aneuploidy and developmental defects, but how meiotic cells are protected from unscheduled DNA breaks remains unexplored. Here we define a checkpoint response to persistent meiotic DSBs in C. elegans that phosphorylates the synaptonemal complex (SC) to switch repair partner from the homolog to the sister chromatid. A key target of this response is the core SC component SYP-1, which is phosphorylated in response to ionizing radiation (IR) or unrepaired meiotic DSBs. Failure to phosphorylate (syp-16A) or dephosphorylate (syp-16D) SYP-1 in response to DNA damage results in chromosome non-dysjunction, hyper-sensitivity to IR-induced DSBs, and synthetic lethality with loss of brc-1BRCA1. Since BRC-1 is required for inter-sister repair, these observations reveal that checkpoint-dependent SYP-1 phosphorylation safeguards the germline against persistent meiotic DSBs by channelling repair to the sister chromatid.Cancer Research UK FC0010048UK Medical Research Council FC0010048Wellcome Trust FC0010048Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad BFU2016-75058-PEuropean Research Council ERC2014 AdG669898 TARLOO
