Continuous-Wave Multiphoton Photoemission from Plasmonic Nanostars
Highly nonlinear optical processes, such as multiphoton photoemission,
require high intensities, typically achieved with ultrashort laser pulses and,
hence, were first observed with the advent of picosecond laser technology. An
alternative approach for reaching the required field intensities is offered by
localized optical resonances such as plasmons. Here, we demonstrate localized
multiphoton photoemission from plasmonic nanostructures under continuous-wave
illumination. We use synthesized plasmonic gold nanostars, which exhibit sharp
tips with structural features smaller than 5 nm, leading to
near-field-intensity enhancements exceeding 1000. This large enhancement
facilitates 3-photon photoemission driven by a simple continuous-wave laser
diode. We characterize the intensity and polarization dependencies of the
photoemission yield from both individual nanostars and ensembles. Numerical
simulations of the plasmonic enhancement, the near-field distributions, and the
photoemission intensities are in good agreement with experiment. Our results
open a new avenue for the design of nanoscale electron sources
Long-term quality assurance of fMRI and MRS on a 3.0T clinical scanner
Functional MRI (fMRI) and Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS) are being increasingly used in clinical protocols. Subsequenly it is crucial to develop a routine quality assurance protocol (QA)of both techniques. This work describes a long-term variability study, as apart of the QA of fMRI and MRS on our institution clinical 3.0 T MR scanner
Starspots on the fastest rotators in the Beta Pic moving group
Aims: We carried out high-resolution spectroscopy and BV(I)_C photometric
monitoring of the two fastest late-type rotators in the nearby Beta Pictoris
moving group, HD199143 (F7V) and CD-641208 (K7V). The motivation for this work
is to investigate the rotation periods and photospheric spot patterns of these
very young stars, with a longer term view to probing the evolution of rotation
and magnetic activity during the early phases of main-sequence evolution. We
also aim to derive information on key physical parameters, such as rotational
velocity and rotation period. Methods: We applied maximum entropy (ME) and
Tikhonov regularizing (TR) criteria to derive the surface spot map
distributions of the optical modulation observed in HD199143 (F7 V) and
CD-641208 (K7V). We also used cross-correlation techniques to determine stellar
parameters such as radial velocities and rotational velocities. Lomb-Scargle
periodograms were used to obtain the rotational periods from differential
magnitude time series. Results: We find periods and inclinations of 0.356 days
and 21.5deg for HD199143, and 0.355 days and 50.1deg for CD-641208. The spot
maps of HD199143 obtained from the ME and TR methods are very similar, although
the latter gives a smoother distribution of the filling factor. Maps obtained
at two different epochs three weeks apart show a remarkable increase in spot
coverage amounting to ~7% of the surface of the photosphere over a time period
of only ~20 days. The spot maps of CD-641208 from the two methods show good
longitudinal agreement, whereas the latitude range of the spots is extended to
cover the whole visible hemisphere in the TR map. The distributions obtained
from the first light curve of HD199143 show the presence of an extended and
asymmetric active longitude with the maximum filling factor at longitude

A Vector Non-abelian Chern-Simons Duality
Abelian Chern-Simons gauge theory is known to possess a `-self-dual'
action where its coupling constant is inverted {\it i.e.} . Here a vector non-abelian duality is found in the
pure non-abelian Chern-Simons action at the classical level. The dimensional
reduction of the dual Chern-Simons action to two-dimensions constitutes a dual

Current status of bacterial spot of stone fruits and almond caused by Xanthomonas arboricola pv. pruni in Spain
In 2002, typical symptoms of bacterial spot disease of stone fruits caused by Xanthomomas arboricola pv. pruni (Xap) were observed for the first time on Japanese plum in Badajoz (south-western Spain). During the following years, the pathogen was found in seven other eastern and northern Spanish provinces (Valencia, Alicante, Zaragoza, Huesca, Navarra, Lérida and Mallorca) affecting different cultivars of Japanese plum, nectarine, peach and almond. There are few previous reports of Xap on almond, the Spanish outbreaks constituting its first detection on this host in the European Union (EU). Identification of the pathogen was performed using biochemical tests, fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) profiles, conventional and real-time PCR, and hypersensitivity reaction on tobacco leaves. Pathogenicity was demonstrated by inoculation of young potted plants of peach, plum or almond and successful re-isolations from plants with symptoms. In areas where infected plants were found, eradication programs were set up since Xap has a quarantine status according to phytosanitary EU legislation.Publishe
Gravitational Duality in MacDowell-Mansouri Gauge Theory
Strong-weak duality invariance can only be defined for particular sectors of
supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories. Nevertheless, for full non-Abelian
non-supersymmetric theories, dual theories with inverted couplings, have been
found. We show that an analogous procedure allows to find the dual action to
the gauge theory of gravity constructed by the MacDowell-Mansouri model plus

Unusual context of CENPJ variants and primary microcephaly : compound heterozygosity and nonconsanguinity in an Argentinian patient
Primary microcephaly (MCPH) is a genetically heterogeneous disorder showing an autosomal recessive mode of inheritance. Patients with MCPH present head circumference values two or three standard deviations (SDs) significantly below the mean for age- and sex-matched populations. MCPH is associated with a nonprogressive mild to severe intellectual disability, with normal brain structure in most patients, or with a small brain and gyri without visceral malformations. We present the case of an adult patient born from Argentinian nonconsanguineous healthy parents. He had a head circumference >5 SD below the mean, cerebral neuroimaging showing hypoplasia of the corpus callosum, bilateral migration disorder with heterotopia of the sylvian fissure and colpocephaly. The patient was compound heterozygous for pathogenic variants in the CENPJ gene (c.289dupA inherited from his mother and c.1132 C > T inherited from his father). Our patient represents an uncommon situation for the usual known context of CENPJ and MCPH, including family origin (Argentinian), pedigree (nonconsanguineous), and genotype (a compound heterozygous case with two variants predicting a truncated protein). Next-generation sequencing studies applied in a broader spectrum of clinical presentations of MCPH syndromes may discover additional similar patients and families
